Why isn't MMR based at least somewhat around Emblems? You already have a system in place.

Obviously the Emblem system is not perfect and could use some work, but it just feels weird that 2 imperfect systems exist in the game that do a poor job of judging player quality and skill, as opposed to morphing these 2 together and making a cohesive and refined system that judges the players on their qualities in the match and not just on escapes/sacrifices.

  • Agreed. I think its very silly for survivor that hides the whole match to escape via hatch or a door gets higher MMR,while 3 others did all the work die and get nothing. Also killers who are fair and get everyone to second hook but no kills or 1 get nothing no matter how fair and good they played. Lets be honest playing super fair makes you lose the games quite often.

  • Because they still believe they did a pretty good job so far

  • People complained about emblems/rank.

They spent 2 years developing "skill" based matchmaking.

SBMM was a much better system that accurately assesses skill and moves you up or down accordingly, but due to the effort of the emblem system, it was retained for grades, as it gives a good visual for performance on the endgame screen.

MMR was kept invisible, and its mechanisms secret for... reasons. Reasons that definitely weren't at all to hide that it was terrible and doesn't assess skill at all.

1 week later, dataminers leaked how MMR worked.

1 week after that the devs, just spontaneously, no reason at all, decided to graciously announce how MMR actually works.

Their initial plan was to just never tell us how SBMM worked and pretend it was working perfectly, that way all of the complaints about unfair matchmaking could no longer be shown in a screenshot and flood the front page of reddit and the forums daily, because you can't show that the lobby is unfair, and anyone saying so would just be told "your MMR is just different to what you think it is, it all works perfectly." They can now no longer go "oops, you found out we cut corners and put in the lowest effort system imaginable, let's go back to emblems" because that would admit they made a mistake.

  • You’re assuming mismatches are due to the MMR being inaccurate, but in reality a lot of mismatches happen even with a 100% accurate rating because the system intentionally puts people who wait too long in the next available match. If a player is an outlier rating and doesn’t have a good matchup then eventually they get put in whatever slot is open so they’re not waiting forever. Likewise if you have a match forming in a lobby, and one player leaves the lobby, the game fills the now empty slot with whoever is available immediately so it doesn’t have four players waiting a really long time for a replacement. And on top of both of those you have high rated people playing in swfs with low rated friends.

Basically there are a lot of reasons for apparent mismatches that all have nothing to do with how good or bad the MMR is in terms of accuracy. It’s definitely possible, even likely, that the MMR is in fact more accurate than the old emblem system (especially since the old system reset every month and you had one emblem rank regardless of which killer you played). (And personally I get better matches now under the new system than I did the old one, but that’s just anecdotal.)
