New player first day playing against rank 1 players...

I just started yesterday and had some fun matches till i started to get in to those rank 1 players after searching i found out there rank and perks means they have spent years and thousands of hours playing this game.

My last match i picked up the nurse lvl 1 no perks and got into a team of 3 rank 1 all flash lights teabaging and annoying loops even after the generators are done they kept going they didn't want to leave and finally i killed one by camping the hook and they all reported me after the game.

This is by far the worst first impression gaming experience i ever had, why its ok to put someone with 6000 hours play time against someone who just installed the game 4 hours ago

  • If you mean the red grades as "ranks", they only mean how much a person has play per month between the 13th's.

So that isn't necessarily an indicator for skill but yeah DBD has such a small skill distribution that you will still get matched against way too high opponents on both sides pretty fast.

Not to mention the missing beginner queue function from for example rainbow six siege where accounts of level 30 or so only play against each other. Of course doesn't help against Smurf accounts but their is no measure against that anywhere.

  • Yeah, rank 1 doesn't necessarily mean thousands of hours... I mean, if I played enough today, I'd probably get it, and I only bought the game during Halloween. 3 or 4 games a day over a month is enough to get to rank 1 so far as I can tell.

But MMR is also borked and will grab anyone once people have been waiting for too long. This causes problems.

  • Rather than try to improve quality of life so that more people want to play killer, the devs just throw out the matchmaking and shove survivors with any killer player so they don't have long queue times. Survivors far outnumber the needed killer players in prime hours

  • Well if someone is red grade right at this moment it means that person has played enough this month to get there. So putting someone who has played themselfs into red grades versus someone who just freshly installed the game is still pretty unfair. Grades mean nothing nowdays no but it does show how much person has played that month.

The machmaking system is broken. I've gone against multiple killers with 0-10 hours in the game while i have 1300, and ive gone against survivors with 10 000 hours in the game while i'm killer. So yeah its broken.

    Edit: Typos

  • This game will be mostly forgotten in 6 months' time, too many fun and balanced games are being released. You're always gonna have players with playtime with crossplay and a game that has been out for 5+ years PC players. There's too much for me to not like. Maps, SWF's/COMMS, unbalanced Killer/Survivor Perks, cheaters/hackers, lag-switch abusing survivors who can't win any other way you name it oh what about DDOS'ers?!! If they had a console-only crossplay and fixed all the above it might be a competitive and fun game. PC Crossplay and MMR made the map and perk balance even worse and SWF is a joke against a killer with 16 meta perks and flashlights+BNP's+boons. The game already has nails in its coffin with Stranger Things leaving and my prediction is Bubba will be deleted too when they can't cough up the cash for the license. Enjoy your cosmetics while it lasts.

It's sad you are having such bad time but i do hope you find yourself a better game <3. Also this game wont be dead because of VHS or Propnight but i do hope people that are having so horrible time here do find themselfs better games :) No one should play something that makes them unhappy.

Me on the otherhand hate the look and feel of VHS and i play Propnight just for fun here and there since its very unfinished game.

Happy Holidays hopefully you find your fun again!

  • The problem of the current SBMM is, that you as a new player try to play game as a killer - lack of killer population compared to survivors (hence 1:4 ratio)

Since the higher mmr survivors (team) cannot find a match with equally skilled killer, therefore the mmr range gets increased and you get sucked into that lobhy. So the match is found, yet incredibly broken (compared to skills).

As mentioned, SBMM is missing protective bubble (well its hard to impossible to exclude smurfs) and other thing is that game should a checkbox where you want to enable sbmm only to same mmr grade (longer queue, fair match) vs this state of sbmm that is right now

  • Bhvr don't want a ranked and unranked system, because it would further divide the player base ... well, most of us peeps here suspect that no one would actually wanna play ranked, because most peeps have a better time at unranked.

And just humble bragging a bit: I got my first Rank 1 Killer with some 60-70ish hours in the game, so you dont need thousands of hours of experience to get to the top of the ranking system. But of course, this people also exist, so you could be matched with them easily.

Imho Killers have a pretty tough time right now. Its not that I can't get good matches and some nice wins, but the survivor side got so meta, that you practiacally have to play like everyone has DH, BT and DS, with some boons sprinkled in, and most of the time you wont be wrong. Granted, Killers also have their meta perks, ie BBQ or Tinkerer, but they also have many more playstyles and you can do other builds and stay effective. You could probably do that as survivor, too, but I dont think I have seen anyone in Silver 1+ who didnt run at least two of the meta perks. And if things get so no-brainer, its usually a good sign that they are way stronger then the competion, ie the other perks.

  • This is just sad...no new player should have a bad experience. This is the time you should have the most fun but instead you have to deal with 5 year players who act like they have never won a gm before.

  • You know what makes me laugh every time one of these threads come up? Everyone is quick to say "Rank doesn't mean skill anymore."

Yes. You're right. But it DOES mean reasonably successful playtime. Somebody with 80 hours of playtime is going to dumpster somebody with 4. And that just scales exponentially up to the actual thousands of hours. Some random person at grade 1 probably won't be winning any tournaments, but they HAVE played enough to obliterate new players, 100% of the time.

Extra funny is that the Devs decided NOT to give players a 0 MMR rating when they're trying out a killer they just bought, because they assumed that your experience with all your other killers would translate to the new one and you therefore somebody who is good with Bubba will perform equally well with Blight on their first time trying Mr. Ping Pong.

Ranks don't equal skill, but they DO equal competency. And trying to divorce them from MMR is yet another gross oversimplification that has been tanking the game's killer experience.

Grades don’t equal competency, I literally watched a red Grade survivor the other day who played pretty poorly despite having played enough games to get that grade. They were the first person hooked every game, weren’t paying attention to the killer, and didn’t seem to know how to run a loop. In particular there are kids, for instance, who just have a ton of free time to play the game and get to red through persistence but still aren’t actually any good in terms of awareness or looping or strategy, etc. And on the flip side there are solid players who only play a game or two every night or two that never get to high grade but do very well in their matches.

So while there’s probably a correlation between Grades and skill, the two are definitely far from being “equal”

  • Grades mean a lot. If you play bad you don´t pip.

But to get to red rank you still need a good amount of pips.

  • Players like that should get banned period. If they clearly are in a match with a new player and they try to make their experience miserable, I would absolutely boot their asses from the game. We must take care of the new players!
