Camping and Tunnelling excuse used wrong.

I have been watching a lot of streams lately of DBD and I keep hearing the words camping and tunnelling. It seams like many of these survivor streams use these terms as an excuse for losing, either being killed or just being bad. It seems an easy way to blame the killer for the survivors short comings. At the beginning I used the terms myself wrong, however playing more as a killer and doing neither, but being blamed for both, spurred me to clarify the terms.

Tunnelling - This is when a killer chases the same survivor all game. It is not to be confused with the fact that the killer might just find the same survivor all the time, because the survivor is bad, or just by chance. A killer who tunnels will purposely run past other survivors to focus on one. This benefits the killer by giving the killer one less player to worry about. It may seem bad, however it is a strategy that is used in a lot of battles, once one is down, there are less players for gens, saves and heals.

Camping - This can be broken into three sections. First one is face camping. This is when the killer stands in front of the hook and do not care about the rest of the game. This is an intentional move by somebody who's main point is to spoil the game for one survivor. A friend of mine had this done by a killer streamer, who happened to survive easy during a previous game.

The next type of camping is hook camping. This killer will move around the close area of the hook, waiting for somebody to come for the save. They will not be lured away to chase another survivor and want to turn one hook into two or more. This is simple to beat as a survivor and that is to just do gens. Understand that if you are on the hook, you may just become the sacrifice, unless one of you team have borrowed time.

The last is proxy camping. This is where a killer stays in the general vicinity of the hook, looking for the other survivors while not straying too far. This is the one which people get confused over. The killer is not really camping but being aware of the map area. They are out looking for other survivors, but are able to return to the hook should the need be. This is the one that really annoys me when people shout "Camping" as I have seen on many streams.

  • You can't expect them to behave differently. A lot of people will use any excuse to save their ego (or views).

People who see things as they are without resorting to impulses are rare.
