Dead by Daylight is NOT the type of game to have an MMR system

Setting aside the problem of the fact this game is RNG, unbalanced, nonfunctional, horribly optimized, etc etc etc etc (We would be here all day if I just listed the problems the game has let's be honest).

Why does Dead by Daylight need an MMR system? It's a party game at best, I don't see Mario Party having an MMR system. So why this one? This game is far away from being a competitive game, especially when multiple mechanics are in that place which don't even require much mechanical skill to begin with.

If I follow a survivor around with Rancor, then kill them, if they lose MMR because of that, how is that fair?

If a Killer hard tunnels you out of match and you get under 10k points and you lose MMR, how is that fair?

If the survivors just hard sweat out gens and you couldn't get enough pressure because of the giant map size or you just got bad spawns, guess what? You lose MMR to which I ask again....how is that fair?

The problem isn't having low MMR, it's that there are certain instances in which having HIGH MMR drastically reduces the fun factor of this game by a TON. Especially if you're just a casual player and not one of the comp gamers who for some reason think this game is an esport (Surprise, it's not).

If either side does not want you to play, then I'm sorry but, you do not get to. The sweatier the other player(s) are the more likely that becomes and ALL of the sweatlords are going to occupy the higher MMR. To which I ask all survivor players, do you want to face Spirit, Freddy, Twins, and Nurse every match? Now to address the killer players, do you want to face 4 teams all stacked with the hard survivor meta that pump out gens and play offerings for the best maps? SWF or no SWF, it does not matter, if a group of 4 survivors are good enough and they want to sweat, that match will be miserable for most killers.

Same goes for Survivors, say you want to have a fun match, maybe try out some new perks you just unlocked on your survivors, you load in, but surprise, you have high MMR, it's a Spirit. You and I both know that the first thing you're going to do is ######### on hook because nobody likes playing against Spirit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure most of us as players are just casuals. We don't inherently give a damn about rank or even winning, we just want to play the game. Killers want to have chases and get hooks, survivors want to loop and get points. In a forced MMR system, it completely screws over the casual side of the game in its entirety.

You had a good string of matches? Enjoy sweaty players. You had a bad string of matches? Enjoy literal newcomers who don't know what they're doing. In both of those instances a casual player is entirely screwed over.

The simple solution is to either not have it, or to just add a casual mode for the casual players who don't have to worry about MMR. Let the sweats play with each other in a Ranked MMR gamemode. Let us casuals just enjoy the game without having to worry about getting matched with sweats.

  • You are literally describing how the current rank based matchmaking doesn’t work in this game. We don’t know how the MMR is determined.

also casual mode would get overrun by sweat lords to get ez matches.

    ^ This.

@Peppa_Pigsaw You're describing the sort of ranking system we have now, where it's rigidly standardized and people pip or not based on factors outside of their control. The way the devs have described the system they're working on, context will matter.

Unbalanced matches will still happen because it's unlikely there will ever be the perfect amount of players of the same skill-level playing at any given time to populate lobbies in a timely manner. Those unbalanced matches will probably be just like the matches we get with the current useless matchmaking system; the difference will be that context will matter and the game will not heavily penalize unskilled players for losing to highly skilled players (which is what happens right now). Casual players will stay at the same level instead of reaching "red rank" not because they're good but because they put in a lot of time. Highly skilled players will hopefully crush (and thus chase away from the game entirely) fewer newbies.

A proper MMR system is more likely to put players in lobbies with others at their own skill level. That's the point, an increased likelihood of fun, challenging matches. We'll still have the totally random, crappy, unbalanced ones we have right now, but hopefully they'll be less often.
