Can someone explain the hatch to me please.

It is just a free escape to bad survivors. That's it. They sucked so much that they get rewarded. There is no way to counter it such as Blood warden(why doesn't blood warden affect it?). There is no strategy to it. It is just a you suck so here's the pity prize to keep you from whining a lot. Doesn't even cost a perk slot. Maybe if it only appeared to someone who had a key or was a perk or something it wouldn't be that bad. Just curious what the thinking was and why no perks affect hatch.

  • The hatch is there to end the game. Either the survivor finds it first or the killer finds it first.

Before that, the survivor would just hide forever because there was no way in hell they'd be able to do like 3 gens by themselves.

If it gets your britches in such a twist, slug for the 4k. You have the option.

  • Lore wise it's to give the survivor hope that escaping is always an option. The entitiy feeds of that hope.

Gameplaywise it's to end the game. Otherwise the survivor would just hide all day or run to the most busted loops they can find to waste as much of your time as possible. Trust me hatch is a good thing.

Outside of the end game mechanic spawning in the middle of the game ofcourse but that's another topic

  • It serves as an escape for Survivors who get the short end of the stick as well. If a solo player is abandoned by three DCers then this gives them an out. Why should they be punished for being left behind with gens to solo?

And as the other comments have said it ends the game. A Killer can't just permanently block the exits with traps or glyphs or whatnot and Survivors can't just hide in lockers to force a rage quit.

Without the hatch this game would be unplayable! ๐Ÿ˜Š

  • I can guarantee all the Killer mains that complain about Hatch being unfair and rewarding bad Survivors that if BHVR were to get rid of the it you would be begging for it to come back in less than a week.

Do you really think if there was no Hatch the last guy would appear magically in front of you and point to a hook so you could get 4K easily? some would but others would chose to hide until the end of times either to win by DC or to spite you, before EGC was implemented, when Hatch only appeared after 2 gens were finished, Ive been in games were the last Survivor decided to hide full inmersion and they were not funny, I think my record was 35 minutes searching and I know for a fact people have been stuck up to hours because they couldnt find that last one.

  • I'd say the only tweak the hatch need would be for keys to have a possible counter to them, like hatch opening not being instant or something alike.

But the hatch spawning for the final survivor is not a problem and will never be.

  • Hatch spawning for the final survivor is not a problem.

Hatch spawning when all gens are completed is not a problem.

Hatch spawning when survivors still have objectives left to complete IS a problem. How are you supposed to counter the last 2/3 survivors using a key when you're still defending gens?

  • 2 reasons

1st) Ending the game so that no one can hold hostage

2nd) Survivors "sometimes" got matches where it's impossible to win, not because you're bad but because your team as a whole gets destroyed by the killer. The Hatch gives at least kind of a goal to you. Because if the Hatch wouldnt exist, why playing the game? If there is literally no chance to survive. The Hatch at leats gives you a little chance. And the Killer has tons of counterplay to this mechanic.

And please, don't start this "this is unfair" thingy. If we talk about base mechanics that literally supports you for playing pretty bad (and not about perks and stuff like that) we could start at Bloodlust and end with Entity Blocker. Somewhere in the middle we would came to that Killer can stalk Survivor profiles (pre-match, post match is ok), even this feature got removed at some point in the game history.

I agree if you say that more than one guy can escape the hatch through a key during the midgame isn't fair. But that could easily get fixed by making the hatch spawn only if there is one survivor left or all 5 gens are done. But nope, people want the Key do get nerfed. And there is no nerf that would prevent this situation no matter how hard you could make it.

But yea. Fact is, drugs and alcohol destroy brain cells.

  • Wow another hardcore killer main who doesn't understand purpose of hatch.... I'm shook

  • The hatch mechanic is ...

Midgame hatch spawning is just dumb, keys are dumb especially after a killer closes the Hatch, killer could close Hatch 4 times and lose, thx to keys and Hatch Spawn Offers are equally as dumb, any survivor on death hook can lead the killer away and give the team a hatch escape depending on condtions, for example there's 1 gen left, there's 2 gens left but only 2 survivors left, there's only 1 survivor left. suicide or DC for hatch escapes is really bad. There shouldn't be hatch offerings, there shouldn't be a hatch spawn midgame and keys shouldn't override a Killers action.

If a killer closes hatch EGC triggers wich means gates are powered, so if a survivor is near an exit gate they have a chance at escaping, only when Hatch is in the middle of gates is a problem, only when there are LOS to both gates is there a problem. THESE 2 PROBLEMS ARE RNG PROBLEMS. Maps shouldn't have RNG, the fact DbD maps have RNG only proves BHVR's difficulty in designing maps. Alot of the times killers struggle because they have to deal with Map RNG more than dealing with good Survivors or good perks. And IMO, none of the Map Reworks made any of those Maps Better, i especially HATE Lery's rework.

If a Survivor DC's then the game should lower the requirements to give survivors a fairer chance. 1 DC = 1 less gen needed FOR GATES, assuming DC's will only happen mid match this could give way to the Survivors having already done 1 or 2 gens wich means they'll need 1 less gen. If there's 4 survivors alive there's no need to DC when there's only 1 gen left even if they are on a 3 gen scenario, if there's 3 Survivors and 1 DC they only need 4 Gens, if there's 2 DC's then they only need 3 Gens and if there's 3 DC's you are last Survivor you get Hatch Spawn regardless of Gens so that if there was a 5 Gens 1 Survivor SCenario there's still a chance at Escaping. In this scenario for the remaining Survivors to suffer any meaningfull consequences the DC needs to happen very early in the match but if there's 1 or 2 gens done already then the impact of any DC is lessened cause the requirements are lessened wich means everyone can still play as normal. If Killer wants to Camp any of the 3 remaining Survivors then the other 2 can keep working on gens knowing they need 1 less gen to escape, they can do a double rescue and then split pressure between gens, basicly the game is still viable for Survivors and everyone gets a decent Bonus for playing the match despite the DC.
