The maps feel so lifeless
Take macmillian estate for example. All of those maps look like a map, but they lack just life in general. Where are the bushes, the vegetation, the moving trees, the wind blowing, and the crickets chirping in the distance? It doesn't make sense and is somewhat shocking that this isn't being added in by the graphical updates. Each map just feels like it lacks a little something. And another thing, why does it seem like there isn't as much fog as there used to be on the reworked maps?
The best maps in terms of aesthetic would probably be midwich and lery's because they actually have their own versions of those features. Lery's has creaky windows, rubble on the ground that makes several different noises. Midwich has those uh crusty looking people? Then you have the courtyard which just looks really cool when you look around and the chains in the sky give it uniqueness.
It makes the maps very boring.
Just wanted to share my thoughts on the maps right now.

MacMillan? Well, I 'll do you one better: where is my precious blue tint?
The fact that this map isn't blue anymore is unforgivable. And yes, there is indeed something weird with the Fog.
This is why the magic fortune teller man from Father Campbell's Chapel should be in every tile on every map /s
but I agree, I wish the maps would feel less static.
Best guesses:
MacMillan:
They don't really know what exactly to do with macmillan?
Like, look at Trapper's tome entry, that's something hinting at him being from the early 20th century. Yet we got all these computers, fancy cars etc.
The whole design of the estate strikes me as stemming from a time when Trapper seemed meant to stem from the 1970 to 1990, instead of what his tome entry later on turned him into.
Trapper and his map need to be redone (designwise) from the ground up (he got a graphical update, but he's still not fitting with his tome entry self) to fit with the 1920s theme of the tome entry.
Azarov's:
Same issue. Sure, the graphical rework added bodyparts in the walls, but it still doesn't really feel right with what we DO know from Wraith's lore.
The best thing to do with Azarovs would be making it a pseud-indoor map. A labyrinth of stacked wrecks with little gaps the move through, barrels and debris to push out of the way (like special breakable walls) etc.
Maybe unpopular but honestly, i prefer all of the old maps in terms of visuals (with the exception of Ormond maybe), especially old Crotus Prenn was so atmospheric i miss it a lot. Current one looks extremely boring imo.
Not that unpopular, my friend. I agree with you.
Macmillan only has subtle background crow noises, but some maps are moving in the right direction coldwind has sounds that sound like crickets, cicadas, and snakes in its background even now and then
I did think it was unpopular because i have seen mostly praise for them when it comes to them visually and people saying how much better they look compared to before.
Glad to see there are some people that agree the old maps look better :)
And they sure do, my friend :)
It disheartens me to think that we might never see them in-game again.
It agree, the sound give the map it own personality and I haven't heard any unique sound in macmillian and maybe azerov.
No fog, no life. And the worst of all - no blue moonlight in Macmillan. It was my favorite realm because of it and now its gone forever
