Simple solution against camping

Solution: Stop the hook progress if the killer is close to the hook and not in a chase.

This way camping would keep the survivor alive while others can do gens: i.e. other than endgame it would make no sense for the killer to camp.

Possible drawback: Survivors could know if a killer is near to the hook based on the progress, i.e. it is a very weak builtin kindred.

  • Survivors would abuse this most likely, there was something extremely similar tested a while back and it was completely abused.

Do you remember what was the abuse?

  • One survivor would keep the killer near the hooked survivor while the other two did gens, wasting the killers time up until A: all the gens were completed. B: The survivor wasting the killers time got downed. C: The hooked survivor got unhooked, if it be by the killer giving up or the survivor making an unsafe save.

Although it would be harder with the chase requirement, it wouldn't be impossible to waste the killers time if you know what to do.

  • Very simple, but not a good one. It could be abused by survivors looping near the hooked survivor. Against an inexperienced killer, it would probably take longer to catch a good survivor. This would also make the survivor on the hook have a very boring experience.

Also, imagine BUBBA camping if this was a thing. It is already unfun as hell, but now you have a paused timer? Imagine being on the hook in the basement against an insidious bubba for 6 minutes.

That's why I added the "not in a chase" requirement. How could they abuse this? By breaking somehow the chases, how is it possible?

Survivor looping around the hook means that the killer is in a chase, so the hook progress is not stopped.

Bubba can camp even currently, but with my suggestion the gens would be all done and bubba would get at most that single kill. Yes, it could be boring for that single survivor, but same boring for the killer, and killer even would not get a lot of bloodpoints... So I think it would be very painful for the killer as well and therefore they would not camp.

  • I understand the frustration of hook camping since I do play both sides all the time. The problem is yes the one person being camped is definitely annoyed but in the end you will need to punish the killer by finishing 1-2 or even 3 gens for doing so. I think this theory may be slightly flawed since some killers based on perks or actual character playstyle may benefit for staying in the general area like the hag. I'm not supporting the camping but you can counter it by making the killer lose 3 gens, which should result in at least two or all 3 other survivors getting out. With that being said just don't take chances on the hook and give your team as much time as possible.

Lastly if you don't want to finish 3 gens and you want to get your buddy I get it. All 3 of you need to challenge the killer and trick him into hitting one guy and while he's in the after hit animation you get your friend and body block him. There are counters to these guys.

That would still not solve camping and then could instead be abused by the killer. The killer is then asserting pressure on two survivors and is in a winning position.

First of all, leaving scratch marks around the area but playing stealthy, the killer knows someone is nearby but doesn't know where.

Second of all, standing still or walking. I know this sounds stupid at first, but waiting beside the hooked survivor won't start a chase if you aren't running, meaning the killer is forced to hit you as they wouldn't be able to get a grab off without wasting time.

Finally, albeit situational, trading. Getting downed by the hook so the killer spends extra time right beside it outside of a chase allowing someone else to come in for a save.

  • This could be way too easily abused as it was when it was tested. Even with the "not in chase" inclusion it would be abusable. Killer sees the survivor as he's hooking someone, the survivor hides in the area, killer knows survivor is there - why should the killer be punished in those circumstances?

I don't think slowing down hook timers is a good solution to hook camping, also we have perks such as Borrowed Time to deal with possibilities like this so I don't think it's a massive problem.

Sometimes as a killer you have to call the hook because there is one of two survivors attempting to fast/instant unhook. Even without being in chase, survivors abused that when tested in game. Not a good idea. Every killer that camp has a counter UNLESS the killer is Leatherface.
