Is non euclidean geometry possible in Dbd's engine?

Ie tile sets leading into non-directly connecting tile set's. Tile sets repeating theoretically on themselves forever in a looped fashion.

Just like purely from a developer/development standpoint. Not really sure if it should or would fit in the game.

Just had the idea of a player running effectively to the edge of the map, "past the barrier" but just coming back into the other side of the map, effectively having no escape. Like a winding Forrest where if you keep going straight you end up in the same place.

  • Just for the record, non-Euclidian geometry, in simple terms, just means non-flat space.

DbD was made with Unreal Engine, which definitely allows for what you want (see: basically every "mind bending" game made with Unreal).

  • A borderless map sounds fun. but..... my god imagine the bugs.

Edit: Also imagine the potential sick huntress shots.

  • well, the tile system if it could work in real time swapping where certain things like doors and loop tunnels led without an easily predictable logic attached to it while playing in a match could be about the closest thing you could get to what you might be thinking of. But still, in actuality, nope. Especially since with the reworked maps there isn't even much elevation to them beyond the slope of the hill or the steps in a few places on some maps like ones leading into the basement. They would need to create entirely new tiles (and system itself) that could wind and connect other tiles in different ways to even get a start at a hope for something remotely like that. And this game, especially when it came out, was a simple plain with a bunch of simple tiles the placement and slight difference of each being a roll of the dice but very learnable after playing them enough to have seen everything it could spit out

. It being a computer game is enough to make me believe they couldn't swing it on today's engines even if they were the best devs in the world coming together on it. It would probably be hell making an engine that could even let them dip their toes into something like that even if today's hardware could handle it easily. This game wasn't ever meant to do anything like that. Portal is more like what you might be thinking of now that I just remembered that game though. But it was designed specifically that way, dbd isn't a game that could handle that without breaking everything all over. Think of that scene in Labyrinth where Bowie is walking around that weird space like those paintings with steps all over ... dead by daylight, with these devs, no way. The game would be busted beyond hell lol. That could be pretty cool though if that is the sort of thing you were thinking about when you asked this.
