Any real reason why the matchmaking is so poor?

So this is not bash-the-devs thread but I am genuinely confused.

3 years ago we kept throwing it on "smoll playerbase" but yesterday night more people played DBD then Warframe...like...a lot more.

Yet in Warframe I find people on just about every mode in seconds, granted in warframe you can join when the "match" has already started so there is that which will help but still.

Im just baffled it often takes so long to find a match when so many people are online, heck Warframe does not even have Crossplay, thank god DBD does because otherwise it would be even more unbearable.

And its also seeminly always a thing later in the evening, im talking about 9 - 10pm...I just dont understand, someone help me!

if you're playing survivor, well, good luck getting matches most of the time. Since crossplay was added survivors almost always have wait times. Killer queues are relatively quick. It's just you need 1 killer per 4 survivors, so if there is a ton of survivors on and only a handful of killers you're gonna have to wait.

As long as not more people are willing to play killer you will have long wait times for survivors. That's just how it is. The hit validation stuff, the auto aim and the new maps with rocks and other stuff survivors can climb on as well as breakable doors have not helped on this. On top of the pile of issues that already existed.

Soo basically we are saying that while the playerbase has increased, the Survivor / Killer ratio is still as messed up as ever?

Yup. Playing killer is simply not fun for most people.

  • It's just a symptom many asymmetrical games have.

Warframe doesn't have various roles and require a specific ratio of one role to another.

Look at every other assymetrical game. Evolve, Predator HG, RE:R, and Last year all had matchmaking issues.

When you have a game where you have 2 teams but one team is 1 dude and the other team is 4 dudes, it is inevitable to have matchmaking time issues.

When you need to have 1 killer player for every 4 survivor players, but there's more people queuing for killer than survivor, then inevitably there will be a wait time for some killers due to a lack of survivors to match them with.

Sometimes the scales tip the other way. If there are too many people playing survivor but not enough playing killer, matchmaking times will inevitably worsen for survivors because there is a shortage of killers to match them with.

Non asymmetrical games don't have this problem because ratios of certain player types are not required. So you just pool together all matchmaking players and divide them up in whatever way works, meaning matchmaking times are only bad when there are not enough player total, compared to a game where certain ratio of player types is required for ideal matchmaking, you can have bad matchmaking times at any number of players. You could have 10,000.0000 people playing at once but if 9,500,000 of them were survivor matchmaking time would be hell.

Edit: The best thing BHVR could do to amend issues is to offer a warning that there is an unbalance of players when queuing and also create a system that automatically offers BP bonuses for switching roles in times of unbalance. IE. you go to queue for killer and when you ready up the game says "Role Unbalance detected: Matchmaking times may be extended as a result. Survivors will gain 50% extra BP until player count is even"
