Object Of obsession rework idea that keeps its purpose and makes it available to solo players.
This perk is the best info perk in the game due to its range and constant effect. i believe limiting the aura reading while changing the way you and the killer's auras are revealed to each other is a good way to balance this perk and make it available for solo players as well. here's the rework idea.
Object Of Obsession: If you are looking at the killer's direction while they are not undetectable and they are outside 16 meters and within 32/40/48 meters the killer's aura will be revealed to you for up to 3/4/5 seconds. object of obsession recharges at half its rate compared to its active duration when not looking in the killers direction and can't be activated again for at least 3 seconds when looking away from the killer or if you reach your limit object of obsession cant be used again until it is fully charged. during cooldown the killer can see your aura outside of 16 meters.
Object Of Obsession becomes deactivated if you are on a hook, in the dying state, or you are no longer the obsession.
edit: clarification it recharges up to its usage of 3/4/5 seconds at 0.5 seconds per second. meaning if you use it for 5 seconds its total cooldown will be 10 seconds.
so how exactly will this perk work in a trial? if you look at the killer within its range you will see their aura until you reach the maximum limit which is 3/4/5 seconds before having to wait at least 3 seconds to use the perk again which recovers 1.5 seconds of usage from the perk . During this time the killer doesn't see your aura until after the perk goes on cool down. when the perk is on cooldown the killer see's your aura no matter how far you are unless you are within 16 meters.
this means that you can have information on the killers location for short periods of time at a reasonable distance with the cost of having them know your location for twice that duration up to 10 seconds. players who use this perk can use the 5 seconds it is active to get closer to the killer to hide if they get within 16 meters or to see if the killer is going to them. However you also run the risk of losing this perk if someone else becomes the obsession and the perk now no longer works if you are incapacitated.

This is definitely a step in the right direction, whilst still making sure there are inherent risks running the perk.
Another suggestion is it also needs to stop acting like a pseudo Spine Chill if the killer is Undetectable or if they’re Blind. It’s still too much info. They changed Sole Survivor to stop lighting up everytime it blocks the survivors aura because it was too much info given. They need to make the same change to Object, so that the perk ONLY lights up if it is in fact revealing the killers aura to that particular survivor.
I added it won't activate if the killer is undetectable as well as clarified the recharging of the perk.
I think this would also fit very nicely on Laurie's perks especially when combined with sole survivor because as the match goes on and players die your safe zone for using the perk increases and at 2 survivors dead resulting in a 48 meter zone to use object of obsession you have a big advantage if you can keep yourself as the obsession. With all the obsession switching that happens and the fact that OoO can only work if your the obsession i think it would be pretty good but not OP and some killer perks can even make it impossible to keep yourself as the obsession.
I really don't see how these changes would make OoO available to solo players, I feel like it's just getting it nerfed 😕
As a Survivor it would work WHEN you look in the Killer's direction, WHILE they're inside a certain range and ONLY for 3/4/5 seconds. Then when you look away it goes on cooldown for TWICE its active time WITH the Killer being able to see you if you're 16+ meters away with no other distance restriction, and even after that it still can't be activated for 3 more seconds.
These changes reduce the range of the perk to 16/24/32 meters and its duration to 3/4/5 seconds, it grants the Killer free information on your location for twice as long and on top of that the perk is completely deactivated if you are hooked, in the dying state or if someone else becomes the obsession.
I wouldn't mind a rework on this perk, I'd make it somehow similar to Myers' mechanics so you had to stalk the killer for a certain amount of time before you got to use it. This means if you wanted to run it you'd have to first find the killer and follow them around a bit, risking being caught and also keeping you away from gens. I'd also make it so it deactivates if you are hooked and you'd need to start all over again to reactivate it.
yes it is a nerf compared to its current version how can it not be. current OoO doesn't have a restriction on its usage other than a range twice as long as this idea and its dumb that it works no matter what state your in. seriously how is it ok that when your on a hook or downed and you can still provide your team or self with info? I included it also being deactivated when your not the obsession because it still gives you good info just at a more reasonable range and if 4 survivors ran this and were effective at avoiding the killer using the 16 meters it will be basically a downgraded OoO with safer usage, i didn't provide a compromise in the perk like the current version because i like the idea of survivors fighting over wanting to be the obsession to keep their perk and there are ways to do that and a compromise could actually result in the perk being stronger if the range was reduced since it would make it easier to get within 16 meters.
yes it grants the killer info on your location for twice as long compared to how long you revealed their aura, this is too make it more balanced than its current version and you can still play around that by moving within 16 meters of the killer to negate your aura being shown to them. you can also run other perks like sole survivor or distortion to make it safer to use this isn't a version 2 god aura reading perk i tried to make it balanced. one way of doing that was to make it so you don't see each others auras at the same time and to give the killer a better chance at spotting you if you use it say behind a gen for only a second at a time.
I will look into a rework regarding that kind of mechanic, one of my favorite things to do is imagine how something could work in dbd or any game really, i even have a list of these idea's that i go back to to add or change and i do it pretty frequently. However this is as close as your getting to the true nature of the perk with it being more balanced and that will look like a nerf but also a buff if your not running it for a constant stream of info for your team which is what i mainly wanted to change.
this was my idea but i made it more beneficial to solo survivors but tried to keep the identity of the perk
at the start of the trial reveal the killers aura to you and your aura to the killer for 8 seconds
when the obsession enters a chase the killers aura is revealed to you for 8 seconds the perk then goes on cooldown for 40/35/30 seconds
this way if you are the obsession the perk becomes sort of like a reverse i'm all ears but if you are not the obsession it tells you where the killer and the obsession are helping you make your next decision.
it would also have a funny interaction with myers as he starts the trial undetectable meaning you know it's myers but don't know where he is but he knows where you are
