Hypothetically, the MMR system and rank

So this is more a mind experiment then anything else because its very unrealistic.

But, here is the hypothesis:

If the MMR system was online and was working perfectly, flawlessly, then nobody would be able to rank up anymore.

You would only be playing against people of exactly equal skill etc, so the games would end up being as balanced as possible meaning 2 survivors will escape and 2 will die, and nothing extreme happens so 4 irridecent emblems would be something impossible to attain right?

So how would you ever pip then? you wouldnt, I know rank is meaningless but with this concept it would be also impossible really to influence.

  • You can still pip with a 2k though? Just not double pip afaik.

You can also pip as survivor even if you're killed. Technically, you could also double pip as survivor if killed as well.

sure but does one not counter the other? if you double pipped as survivor then died, that means others have not been doing so well, probably the killer neither which cannot be in a perfect MMR system.

Or can everyone pip in a single match? basically everyone doing well enough so everyone got a pip

  • Yea it does happen

But if MMR was working properly there would be matches you'd double pip

the devs said and don't quote me on it

The system predicts the outcome of the match- not a perfect system but one they want to put in

As for the 2k/2e... that's not preictal with the sheer amount of RNG in the game

Like you can't expect to 2k every match playing all killer and all perks on all maps

( hate to be that person) But with keys and moris in the game it swings balance one way or the other

Well, I suppose in a realistic scenario where everyone does a little of everything in a perfect way then it's more likely to be a safety pip for everyone.

In an unrealistic scenario, I think everyone could pip in a match. As survivor you could get 3 iri and a silver which is almost double piping. The two that escape get the double pip as they'd get gold in survival.

As a killer, you would get a silver, 2 iri's and if you can get a gold in gatekeeper then you get a pip. I however have no idea if that's possible as the wiki isn't really up to date on that front.

    For reference

    Survivor

Lightbringer- Iri for everyone if you 99 gens and go with some regression perks on the killer side so that everyone gets max lightbringer

Benevolent- It's legion and everyone gets to heal each other a ton

Survival- Gold for the two that escape. Silver for the two dead

Evader- Iri for everyone as you get decent chases with pallets stuns

    Killer

Sacrifice- Silver for the double kill

Chaser- Iri because you're legion and hiting people with frenzy counts as a chase won

Malicious- Iri because you're legion and you hit everyone a ton

Gatekeeper- I have no idea as I don't know how it currently works. If you can get gold then you pip. If not you safety even with nothing

  • You're forgetting a few things:

    • Players improve over time. Some improve faster than others, but this will lead people to rank up/down the more they play.
    • Luck. There is no game where luck isn't a factor, and DbD has a big RNG component.
