Borrowed Time mechanics change idea

I have a bit of an issue with Borrowed Time in its current state. The way it’s designed right now, it’s a lot like We’re Gonna Live Forever: It’s designed to be an altruistic Perk, but at the moment it’s used almost exclusively to be rewarded for farming rather than punished. It’s only truly useful if you u hook next to an open exit gate, for in any other circumstance the Killer can just funnel the unhooked person until the bleedout timer runs out. Not very efficient.

I think it should undergo a mechanics change to make it a truly altruistic Perk. And I think I may have an idea.

Borrowed Time
You won’t let your friends die, even if comes at your own cost. When unhooking a Survivor within a 12/24/32 meter radius of the Killer, that Survivor will be granted the Protection status effect for 10/15/20 seconds. For the duration of the timer, when a Protected Survivor takes damage, it will be transferred to you instead. Protection can be ended early if you are sent into the Dying State before the timer ends.

  • I like Borrowed Time how it is.

    Good perk to combat camping.

An Anti-camping perk countered by baiting out overly altruistic survivors and tunneling.

Except it's not. Smack the unhooked guy then smack him again or just wait until the timer runs out. Sure it uses up more time than had BT not been used, but it far from counters camping. The only time it's ever useful for actually helping a camped Survivor is when an exit gate is nearby and opened. 99% of people who run BT are either idiots who think it DOES counter camping or toxic asswipes looking to get unhook points without losing Altruism for hook farming. Much like the rest of Bill's Perks, it's very powerful, but only in certain situations you will very rarely encounter in a game.

  • Well, if the killer is remaining near the hook the whole time, then Borrowed Time becomes useful.

I'd rather go in for the rescue instead of waiting for the hooked person to reach second stage (or die).

Borrowed basically gives your team an extra layer of safety, which is always nice to have.

I've had numerous games where Borrowed was effectively able to stall out a killer that was determined to camp/tunnel.

If you countered tunneling with BT then your Killers somehow don't know how to tunnel properly.

No mither isn't a perfect counter to camping but it helps. It wastes the killer a decent amount of time if they choose to go after the unhooked person.

You can't counter tunneling unless you bodyblock. Bt helps extend the time available to the tunneled survivor thus punishing the tunneler by drawing out the chase. Bt as its current iteration is fine as it is as granting a tunneled survivors those extra seconds can give them a time frame to lose the killer or delay the killers ability to kill them. If bt players took the hit then a billy saw randomly knocking you on your ass would be a little absurd. Also it would make the idea of unhooking a survivor who's playing poorly unappealing if i will get downed for their inability to evade a saw or huntress hatchets.

  • Remember folks the BT extra hit only applies if you hit them within 15 seconds. There is nothing stopping you from chasing the unhooked survivor for 16 seconds, then smacking them upside the head.

  • Borrowed Time is alright for me.
It should be buffed to be honest to work even if the killer is not in range to counter insidious.
Maybe reduce the time to trigger borrowed time to 10 seconds and increase the bleed out to 30 seconds.

Yes, it draws out the chase... by a few seconds. It still rewards the unhooker for farming rather than punishing them and screws over the farmed/tunneled Surv WAY more than it punishes the camping/tunneling Killer.
