Escaping or killing 2 survivors should be a pip

Think about it. The mindset of a win is most of the time determined by the emblem system, if you pip you feel that you did good and won. But countless times you did your objective but the entity is still displeased or you just didn't do enough.

For survivors if you survived long enough to make it to the gate and escape or was the last one standing and managed to escape via the hatch i think it deserves a pip

For killers, if you kill 2 survivors that could be your win, or maybe 3 idk but i'v been playing plague getting 3k or 4k and I either depip or black pip.

  • So what you're saying is Blendette's who sit outside the map and urban evade the entire game should be rewarded for doing nothing?

  • Sure but shouldn't it be 3k?

If that strategy happens to be a successful one at their rank then yes.

I can't imagine that continuing to work at higher ranks however. Someone not being on gens all game makes the game easier for the Killer thus reducing their personal odds of Survival considerably. They'd eventually pip up to a rank where they'd be forced to improve their strategy or die.

Or in the hypothetical event that such a strategy is actually an extremely consistent domanent strategy, then they SHOULD be pipped up to the top ranks where the Killers who would be the best at dealing with said strategy are. Otherwise we are just giving them free wins against noobs forever.

  • Rank is supposed to measure effectiveness, not sportsmanship

    No.

Because a killer could get 2 kills just from 2 hooks and camping them to death.

A survivor could escape by skulking around doing nothing just waiting for a gate to be open or the waiting for the hatch.

I mean that's more a symptom of 2k being too low a threshhold. You can hardly say you won when your objective is only half done. That'd be like saying you win as Survivor for completing 3 gens, you still have 2 more to do plus the gates.

3k would make that much harder, and if they get 3 kills from camping in a match then they were clearly facing Survivors that weren't strong enough for him and he needs to be pipped up so they will face stronger Survivors that are better at countering camping.

And we know that the higher rank Survivors will be better at countering camping because those ranks are made up of those 4th Survivors you failed to Kill.

  • Would be far to easy to facecamp 2 people and pip, you could just facecamp all the way to rank 1. Boring yes but it'd be very easy to do.

Pipping as survivor is already to easy, if you pipped on just surviving people would just bring in keys, hide and play for hatch.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

  • Hay the devs say killers should be getting 2k on average in games so that's a number they are stuck with.

Yes. Because they are trying to balance around a tie game. Which is why a 3k would be the correct measure for success here.

Lol, those are probably just the survivors Urban Evasion’ing around the map.

And? If that's the optimal strategy then that should be the one that gets you to red ranks.

We don’t want to be encouraging play whereby doing the least amount of contribution allows a player to both escape and increase their rank.

    Why?

No one will do anything at all.

Because if that just so happens to be the most effective escape method then it should be ranked up so that they will be facing increasingly better Killers in order to contest their strategy.

Lets put it this way. Given Killers ranking up by Killing and Survivors ranking up by Surviving, that means the higher the ranks the more consistent the Killer and Survivor will be at their job. The less consistent a strategy is the less you can rank up and the more you will rank down.

The effectiveness of a given strategy is dependent on how well it is at countering the strategies being used at your current rank.

So in the case of someone urban evasioning around the match, that player will eventually be matched with Killers that slug for the 4k. Because the Killers that DON'T slug won't successfully kill the UE players and thus won't be ranking up along with the UE player. So the UE players will be ranked up into the Killers that are able to kill UE players.

This will hold true for any strategy, Killer or Survivor, besides the respective roles dominant strategy. For example gen rush + skilled looping + 2nd chance perks is the Survivor dominant strategy, in that you either won't be able to find Killers capable of reliably countering it, or alternatively there isn't a superior strategy to adapt into against the Killers capable of preforming the counterplay. However, for suboptimal strategies such as hyper-immersion, their winrate will go down as their rank increases until it goes below 50% and they are forced to switch strategies in order to win enough to continue climbing in rank.

TLDR: if no one does anything then no gens get done and therefor no one will escape

if someone does nothing then they are sabotaging their teams odds of success, which always effects their own winrate more than their teammates simply because they are always in their own games while their teammates are not.

  • I completely agree. The system as it stands gives Killers the impression that 3k is a hard loss, not even worth being proud about. It's 4k or it was a trash game. It's so bad that Killers will slug the third survivor just to be able to guarantee a fourth kill. Hell they'll even slug the third, kill the fourth, and then look for hatch just to be safe.

Because getting 4K is just that important apparently.

Honestly I don't know why DBD doesn't make 1k prior to rank 10 a fantastic game with decreasing value in the kills afterwards, and then ranks 10-4 have 2k as that, with only the top 3 ranks really giving any sort of value to 3k.

It just doesn't make sense, the game isn't fun at all for the players who have to sit there and hope their fourth teammate doesn't get caught as the killer soft patrols the area, and the killer probably isn't having a good time because they've been playing match after match of people escaping, they just want that single 4k game to finish off their archive or get a single pip. It's because BHVR puts way too much value at every rank to getting 4k, despite them saying the game is balanced for 2k games, that the game isn't fun at that stage of the game.

It's quite enjoyable prior to that, actually. You have a few chases, you hook or unhook your teammates and play around with who's going to get chased next, finding out which gens are better to do before you 3-gen yourselves or looking for the survivors and picking your best 3-gen location. But once you hit the late game, either when the last gen is being done or when the killer is on the last two survivors, it can easily become less fun and more frustrating and even boring when you're left on the ground as a "guaranteed" kill or you're the killer who believes they need or deserve that 4k.

We can go on and on about who deserves what, who's being entitled or who's just a whiny little baby survivor/killer and how you should equip these 15 meta perks at all times to guarantee your survivability or 4k, but honestly who really wants to play like that? There are over 50 perks on either side, and yeah sure some are absolute garbage, but are we really just going to push the meta like it's the only fun way to play the game? It's ridiculous.

Coming back around, the system needs to change to encourage high-kill killers to stick to the higher tiers. You get more points. You get longer games, you get more skilled opponents. Their matchmaking system needs to be fixed in order to accomplish this, but the system that awards ranks and points needs to change alongside it, otherwise it's just another stupid baby bandage on a massive stab wound.
