What would survivor sided hit detection be like?

Genuinely curious as to what that would be. For example at the moment with killer sided hit detection someone with high ping could get a fair hit on their end, but on your end you wouldn't be near enough for a hit. So if a survivor had high ping would they not be hit?

If you ever saw that one video with the 2 hacking survivors were every attack would phase through them, it's like that but everyone has it.

It would render the game nearly unplayable for the killer unless the devs doubled if not tripled the hitboxes of all attacks as latency would screw over killers left right and center.

Due to smallest latency(.10 of a second) would be the difference between survivors making a vault safely or getting hit though it. People forget how precise of a timer a killer needs to get vault hits without the attack being auto aimed into the vault itself(This is also true for dropped pallets).

  • I didn't record any of my gameplay and don't have other videos to show. But it is safe to assume it will work like when dedicated servers was first tested in a PTB.

It felt horrible. Attacks landing half a second after the fact. Landing hits on nothing but air in front or behind a Survivor on my screen yet attacks directly on the Survivor missed. Those things just kept happening and it made DbD feel like some meme/jank/joke/fake/asset flip indie games you'd buy for $1.

I have no hopes for this system. And it might be the thing to finally bring me to uninstalling.

It isnt survivor sided its server sided hit validation meaning the server will check the hit before its registered.

  • They didn't say anything about "Survivor-sided". At the moment it is killer sided, which can lead to really ridiculous and frustrating hits, and may also be the reason for Dead Hard not working anymore.

In future the server will get a higher tick rate (60 instead of 30) and will check on both ends, if the hit was actually a hit, before registering it as such.

I thing this will help a lot. As someone who plays both sides equally, I really welcome this change and look forward to test it out on PTB.

Yeh that would be pure hell actually. I'd imagine pulling someone off a totem only for it to break a second later would be a common occurrence too.
