  • I like about 85% of her addons and think they're fantastic, I will say that.

There are a few that are simply never going to be used by a knowledgeable player for any reason though. Sea soaked cloth is completely outclassed by Yoichi's Net (also a yellow), rickety pinwheel adds brief bursts of obliviousness to a stealth killer (lol) and relies on TVs being on, something both sides are trying to avoid in this version of her. Distorted photo still has the silly trigger condition that the survivor has to be looking at you when you manifest, and clump of hair is only really useful on big outdoor maps and why would you ever bring yourself to one of those maps...

So, yeah, I think those 4 are the ones I see as being borderline useless. A simple fix I've been hoping for for a while is to use them to add chase benefits when chasing tape carriers. Even if they were extremely minor, I would use those add-ons because successfully hooking a tape carrier is such a huge reward in itself, I'd take any boost I could get.

  • Just want to say I think this version of her you guys have created is close to perfect if not perfect.

The feel of actively applying condemned and actively locking in condemned is a MASSIVE improvement on her last version, and you guys backed away from hindering her potential which I'm so grateful for.

You should consider the Billy rework + the Sadako rework as the gold standard for reworks and killer powers in general. FUN to use, fun to counter, unique from other killers, and with plenty of agency in the killer player's hands to play as they see fit.

    Incredible job!

  • I wanna humbly offer my own take on these new changes. OBVIOUSLY these will have to be experimented with. It's much easier for me personally to theorycraft about the balance of condemned because that stuff really comes down to time vs gen progress in many cases. Chase buffs are harder to visualize...

HOWEVER, in my mind, this is a very very healthy change and a GREAT solution. This is even better than PTB in my mind!

Regards to hook lock-in: Locking in 3 stacks isn't perfect, I would have liked 4 or no limit too, but I suspect we might never win that argument. It means getting survivors to accept that she's a "buy-one-get-one" hook killer, and while I believe that's actually balanced and we Sadako mains understand that it could be balanced... I can't blame non-onryo mains for hating that idea lol. I also believe that 3 as a limit is a MUCH easier pill to swallow thanks to the chase buffs, which will actually help us get hooks and may even make 3-hooking survivors viable at a higher level of play, in some situations.

For the tape interaction, I am a fan of that being at 1 second. When it was 2, STBFL or sloppy butcher became an obligation, because why wouldn't you block someone fully from cleansing in your face? I hate being funneled into a certain build or playstyle, so removing it as a possibility kinda chilled me out in a way. The idea, it seems, is to prevent cleansing by hooking tape carriers and achieving lock in at least once, and now we have a chase power that can actually help us get hooks...

And this is where we get to the part where I'm not 100% confident in my theory, but 4m/s manifest speed SOUNDS nutty to me on paper. I've heard people call it minor, but in my mind that's actually a really really good buff I never expected. We now lose zero distance while manifesting. Combined with the increased demanifest invis and the immunity to stuns while demanifested, the Sadako 'manifest mind games' just became 'manifest free hits'. Especially paired with telephone or reiko's watch- we are basically a stun-immune SPIRIT at short range.

This chase buff changes EVERYTHING in my mind. Iri tape becomes way more viable because we actually have map pressure without condemned. Lock-in at 3 becomes (well, maybe not STRONG but acceptable) because it becomes the groundwork for EITHER 2 more hooks or 4 more stacks of condemned as the situation demands.

Lastly I agree there are still some add-ons I'd love to see reworked or improved at some point, but this is the best looking basekit I've ever seen for her and I'm just really happy about it!

    (and everyone here lol)

I don't know if any of you saw Peanits' comment on the discord. I'm sure they'll announce it here soon as well. But I think many of us will be rejoicing :)

  • A final plea against the condemned cooldown!

Hey guys! Was just doing some thinking tonight and I realized something about this version of Sadako that I find very problematic. It's a bit 'mathy' so bear with me here. I'll try to lay this out as clearly as possible:

Survivor interactions currently turn TVs off for 70 seconds. This is 10 seconds more than her first version. Keep that in mind.

Gens take 90 charges at base. I'd guess the average gen time is around 90 seconds between the push and pull of perks, but who knows. I'll assume 90 seconds here for the sake of argument.

Sadako is now limited by a 10 second cooldown between condemned stacks. Actually, because Sadako is only allowed to start her teleport at 98% charge on the power meter, the cooldown between stacks is closer to 13 seconds. Condemned is applied after the crawl animation finishes and it takes between 2 and 3 seconds to complete that animation.

Tapes have few downsides now- we've established that. But holding a tape does have one critical downside: turning off non-target TVs will inflict a stack of condemned. This can and should be the 'passive' condemned gained from holding a tape. To fully complete a gen in 90 seconds, you'd have to turn off a TV twice in that timespan- only eating one stack in the process. A fine trade!

On the PTB, if survivors did not turn off the TV twice, once the TV by their gen powered up again, they could gain as many as 4 full stacks before finishing their gen in the last 20 seconds. This is the punishment for ignoring the power of the killer and the counter. This is assuming the killer has 3 other TVs up, and somehow is able to teleport to EVERY TV other than theirs before finishing them off. This is an extreme outlier situation, and I'd say a rather skilled play from the killer if they somehow gathered that information and used it. It would also be a HUGE misplay from the survivor who ignored their kill meter slowly rising over the course of 20 seconds.

Currently, in live, in that last 20 seconds, if a survivor completes their gen and ignores the TV by their gen, they are only at risk of gaining ONE more stack. (they can't even inflict condemned twice in 20 seconds).

It's the exact same as turning the TV off. It's arbitrary. There's no risk of leaving that TV on after turning it off once.

This fact SEVERELY diminishes interaction between survivor and killer power.

In fact, (and if my math is wrong here idk sue me), you could carry one tape and complete 3 full gens while only 'passively' gaining 5 stacks in the process. HUUUUUGE nerf from Sadako 1, and combined with the decreased tape interaction time and hook lock-in nerf...

Condemned is dead in the water if survivors realize this.

And that leaves Sadako dead in the well- her chase power is minimal, that leaves her map pressure fairly inconsequential...

This 10 second condemned cooldown is a disaster for the character. PLEASE revert this, and please consider raising the curse lock-in with a hook to 3 or 4 stacks (or remove it altogether)

Overall, I would like to just post my Ptb feedback again, because it still holds up. Nothing changed in terms of aspects that need to be buffed or changed.

The things that need to change now on top of that is the work created by the unnecessary post Ptb changes. The cooldown needs to go and the amount of stacks should not be maxed by two perk hook. These nerfs make her unfun to play, clunky, a LOT weaker against better groups and really unhealthy again because slugging is again better that hooking.

The lock on NEEDED to be strong to outclass slugging. This is called incentivising healthy gameplay. It was great on the Ptb.

If possible, I would just love to post my Ptb post again. (I should just copy them into my pc documents at this point)

    Exactly! Agreed!

Slugging is really quite easy to achieve if you stall the game enough. She's a stealth killer, it's her bread and butter to injure someone, leave, come back later, get a down, and then quickly rinse and repeat.

C omitting to a specific chase can be a HUGE time investment if the survivor is playing well, but that's the healthy gameplay we're all looking for. So she needs a strong incentive to do it.

  • I've said it elsewhere but I want to make sure I share my thoughts here, as well.

All we need to do is go back to PTB.

SO much was good about the PTB, but it's now like (sorry I love food metaphors)... a delicious bowl of soup that is SO oversalted for no reason at all.

"Condemn spam" is just not a thing, even without a cooldown. Survivors can see their condemned go up, they can turn the TV off, or they can simply walk out of the (now visually depicted!) blast radius of the TV. They have around 5-6 seconds to do this, more than enough time. If survivors care to stop this condemned in any way... they can. The idea that we are teleporting to the "wrong" TVs is deeply confusing to me. By making condemned apply to all powered TVs... is that not... the purpose of that change? In what way are the TVs "wrong"?

The cooldown on condemned breaks her feel and sadly doesn't give her the pressure she needs.

Lock in limit is... interesting? It feels like we're kind of pretending Sadako is something she's not with this change. She does not have a strong chase power (something about which I have no complaints), but hooking less and focusing on TV management on either side is what makes the character unique. The expectation that we would ever hook someone twice to lock in 4 stacks of condemned is just... baffling to me.

That being said, if the limit was raised to 4 or 3, AT LEAST it would have the effect of increasing the regularity of tape runs. A little more slowdown, a little more time to engage in chases and get hooks.

These post-PTB changes completely defang her condemned. And like I said, her chase power is not strong enough to apply any meaningful pressure. "Map pressure" is fine and dandy if you have a way to guarantee hits or pallets fast enough, and Sadako does not have that in her kit.

This leaves Sadako with a familiar problem: slugging is BY FAR the most optimal way to play her once again. I am begging you BHVR, revert these changes or at least get us much closer to her PTB iteration, which felt like a nerf but a nerf I was DELIGHTED by. Survivors had clear straightforward counters, and the killer had a way to apply great pressure if they played well.

    LOVE, April

  • Totally. And you came up with a great solution if the CD was non-negotiable for BHVR, I'd be so down for that. But I don't understand why it would be necessary in the first place. Survivors have never had a more simple counter to this killer, it is quite possibly more simple than 'do pig box when scary trap is on head'...

and yet somehow... they felt compelled to defang her even more.

    Ok. This is it:

    @MechWarrior3 , @OnryosTapeRentals , @aprilghost_yt , @itsamemario , @ChaosWam , @Skitten56 , @jonifire and all the other people out there.

These changes can not go live. They butcher our killer in a way that she doenst deserve and make her weak and unhealthy.

Proposal for fast changes because the patch goes live in 5 /4 - ish days. We need to come to conclusions FAST.

    • Proposed change for spamming condemned: If Sadako uses projection, all active TVs will spread condemned. Then the "global" condemned will go on cooldown for 10 seconds. If Sadako uses projection on a TV during the cooldown, only this TV will spread condemned (old Sadako)
    • Tape insertion HAS to be put to 2 seconds!!!
    • Lock on HAS to remain at PTB - level.

Please guys. its not too late. We can try to prevent this.

I like your idea well enough but I'd go further, I don't find the cooldown necessary whatsoever. Survivors can see the auras of the TVs, they can see the aura of the 'blast radius' of that TV. If a survivor is being 'spammed', their options are to:

    1. turn it off (takes 1 second)
    2. just... leave
    3. stand there and let the mean ol' crafty clever sadako 'spam' the 'wrong' tvs until they get tunnelable :(

sorry to be so snarky but like, I don't quite know how to react to BHVR's decision when when it's so blind to reality.

It's the same with hooking and lock-in. Locking in 2 stacks totally defeats the purpose of the feature.

As for the TV interaction, I found it healthy (it made 'camping' TVs impossible which I liked), but absent strong lock-in, passive condemned, or rapid condemned build up of ANY kind, I guess it would need to come back to give her some kind of viable countermeasure.

The 10 second cooldown hurt most of all. Being able to rapidly condemn someone in chase was the whole point of the character, periods of no-condemned, and then you take advantage of a misplay and the game swings in your favor. It's the excitement and thrill of playing her for me.

10 second cooldown makes us a clock simulator again, you'd be wasting your time if you didn't try to use it off cooldown every chance you get. I'd unironically lose ranged condemned altogether if I could keep the other boons of PTB (hook lock-in, no CD, basekit reiko's and 70 second TV recharge)

I hope BHVR can see how these things work together to STRONGLY encourage slugging. We are sadly back to square one, the hook lock-in is killed once more and 10 second CD plagues us again but somehow worse. We went from a dream to... kind of the worst of both worlds :(

  • Came here to post the same. I cannot congratulate BHVR enough on these changes, they came up with elegant solutions to most of her problems. WELL. DONE!

Do you have a video actually because I didn't understand anything

Basically, a TV has two 'videos' it can play. White noise, and the cursed tape. If a survivor enters the range and leaves, the TV will play audio from both videos at once.

They're going to nerf Sadako. They said it will be a rework but the rework will be used to nerf her. She probably has the highest or 2nd highest kill rate currently. Remember that Sadako had top kill rates pre-rework and the rework made her even a bigger pub stomper, further increasing her kill rate. They need to address her pub stomping aspect, which I discuss here https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/398464/upcoming-onryo-update-suggestion#latest.

Completely agree, and actually I strongly feel she needs a nerf in some ways to encourage more skilled play with her. Right now she's more or less a "survivor makes some tactical mistakes and they die" killer, I don't love that at all.

That being said I think she could go back to the way she was in most ways, take some power from some annoying add-ons and buff aspects of her basekit to see her stay strong in the right hands.

Just making sure everyone from the previous thread was notified.

@hailxsatanxeveryxday really really appreciate the heads-up.

Still have this problem, would love acknowledgment from BHVR that a fix is coming

  • This would be beautiful, give us back some of our skill expression while retaining the nice map normalization of global condemned. If they nerfed other things along with this (maybe have tape destruction inflict less or no condemned or something) it could work well...

oh and also revert reiko's watch thanks

  • The iri isn't really necessary for this playstyle at all, but ring drawing often feels necessary, which is sad. I hope for some basekit buffs and some addon tweaks.

  • BHVR PLEASE. Provide Linux and steamdeck support! I've nothing else to add to the discussion, but I'm one more player who feels frustrated this hasn't been properly addressed!

  • Hoping they fix this ASAP, huge, HUGE problem for Sadako

  • Noticed this playing Sadako, it's quite annoying
