In general, trying to fix tunneling with a perk is a bad idea. You can't guarantee everyone has it and you'll end up making a perk feel mandatory in nearly every build. And they end up nerfing heavily used perks.
It's going to require core gameplay changes to fix tunneling. Hopefully, they'll do it by incentivizing against tunneling and not just punishments for doing it.
-
I've had nothing but the nicest of killers during the event. I've been let out a handful of times, quite a few of them I wasn't even the last survivor.
But I also don't play like a dbag.
I ran out of them quickly. They're oddly really rare considering they're just a green.
-
It's just a mini blight dash. Chucky isn't anything special.
And the killer is supposed to be stronger than an individual survivor, otherwise, the killer would never catch anyone.
-
It's not really a hot take, it's 1 player versus 4. The one player should be stronger than the 4. Otherwise, there would be no chance of the 1 winning and no point in them even playing.
-
Until something gets done about coms and SWFS you can't really complain about how 'sweaty' killers play. They're facing a stacked deck. Because, that is how the majority of survivors play this game.
-
Survivor is probably the easiest it's ever been outside of when you could permanently stun the killer with flashlights. They can't even stop you from repairing a generator after 5 kicks anymore. You're pretty much guaranteed to win as long as you don't suck and don't give up.

Is proximity camping a quality of life issue or a permissible strategy?
Is tunneling bad for the community or condoned by Behavior Developers?
Should killers be able to effectively stand atop the basement to prevent dehooking?
Yes, we could talk survivor ethics, gen rushing, 360s and juking, but that is for another thread.
It's not even a question of talking about survivor ethics. It's a question of, 'Has the survivor community treated the other players of this game with the courtesy they expect to get in return?' And the answer is a resounding "NO!"
When the majority of the player base behaves like animals, why is the onus put on the minority to clean up the community?

This is what always kills me on the forums, killers always complain about survivors, but then readily admit they are not struggling to get their kills.
Are any killers struggling to consistently win?
I'll wait.
Crickets.
All you have to do is sit and watch the people stream this game to explain why kill rates are as high as they are. As soon as anything slightly annoying happens in a match everyone starts killing themselves on the hook.
Your stats are skewed buckaroo, what's really delusional is that the devs don't see how their own players' actions skew their stats. But then again, these are the developers who only nerfed flashlights after one of them was publicly humiliated.
-
Just sayin', if killers were oh so 'overpowered' the majority of people playing the game would be playing killer.
*checks Twitch*
Yep, nope it's majority survivors. The arguably easier role in the game.
-
Years of nerfs to killers and their perks have left them with few options to actually secure kills/wins.
There's a reason why the majority of DBD streamers are survivors, it's easier.
-
Dbd will peak when the devs pull their heads from their butts and properly balance their game like the 4v1 it is.
They really did luck out, if this game were to be released today with what the base game had it would've crashed and burned like VHS.
They nerf killer tactics but do nothing about the abused survivor tactics. And people claim the devs aren't biased in favor of survivors. It's laughable. But this'll get discarded into the void and I'll be banned because the devs want an echo chamber filled with "game hard for survivord, killers bad, nerf killers now!" They've got their whales hooked and that's all that matters at this point.
-
You can't blame killers for avoiding an unbalanced match against people using third-party programs to circumvent in-game mechanics.
-
We should be counting our lucky stars it wasn't 1/2/4/7. They like to backload killer abilities/perks.
-
You mostly just learn the same way it all was discovered. By playing the game and trying things out.
-
Explain the difference between being left to bleed out and getting hooked. Besides a few skill checks at the end and taking twice as long. It's the same gameplay and the same outcome for both. At least when you're on the ground you can crawl around, try to hide, and get the hatch.
I get downright giddy when I get left on the ground. At least the chase continues.

Y'all can use whatever strategy you want.
I hate 3 gens because I don't want to play in a damn match for 40 minutes. I hate getting camped because I actually do want to play the game at some point this match. I hate getting tunneled because it's a cheesy AF way to play and I don't get much of a chance to do anything. I hate getting slugged as the third person because the killer insists that they need the 4K to "win".
But they're all strategies you are allowed to do so go nuts killers. I'd like to hope there are more killers like myself who would take a Fun 0K game over a Boring 4K game (or a Fun Death rather than a Boring Escape) every time but I understand that not everybody prefers that.
When I'm getting tunneled that's when it's the most exciting. I'm pretty great at looping killers so I can usually loop them enough they either get irritated and go after someone else, or they stay on me and get ran for 5 gens. Either way, it was fun for me! I hope it was fun for them! But yeah tunneling is fun not cheesy otherwise I'm just holding M1 on a generator all game and that's boring AF.
-
No one expects killers to pull their punches? Have you never looked at this game's forums? Or watched one of their fog whisperers? Every survivor has been taught to expect the killer to "play nice" or be shamed out of the game. Either that or they scream bloody murder on the forums until the killer can only throw pulled punches.
Eruption was useful for 2 months before it got backhanded. Meanwhile, CoH is still an issue for anyone reliant on spreading out injuries, so every killer except Plague because of mechanics. It's to the point where you don't see it not because it's not a good perk but because it adds a new level of face roll to the game that's boring AF. You really only see it now on sweat squads because of how ridiculously easy it makes the game.
I tried doing what the OP said before Eruption got nerfed and it was barely doable then. If you're facing an even slightly competent player you're going to have to resort to some sort of "sleazy" tactic to get a kill and their team.
-
You didn't explain why his starting with all of his traps is less "tactical gameplay" than him not. You just said it gives him a tactic you don't like because it's similar (Trapper and Artist are nothing alike.) to another killer. Trapper having all of his traps at the start would offer him more tactical gameplay because you wouldn't have to spend the first 2 minutes of a match gathering and placing traps.
And basement Trapper isn't common or even a thing that affects most players. Certainly starting with all of his traps would offer that tactic more frequently instead of being reliant on RNGeesus to place your traps close to the basement so you don't have to spend 2 minutes collecting them to set up your basement hooks. But is that really a problem? Is a basement hook-and-trap setup an instant win?
Trapper right now isn't in a good place. And maybe giving him all of his traps at the start isn't the buff he needs. But this isn't a good argument against doing it, if anything it shows quite the opposite. That specific buff would offer Trapper far more tactical possibilities than he has now just from the sheer amount of time you would save not having to run around all game collection traps.
The first buff Trapper needs though is his traps need to be fixed. Especially on stairs and anything with a slight shift in terrain. That's the first place they should start with all of the killers. There are so many bugs on them that I'm surprised people still play half of them.

Do you expect anyone to believe you and take you seriously when you proclaim yourself as a ‘solo q veteran’.
Everything they say is valid and accurate. Trying to dismiss their entire point based on one statement that's not even relevant to the point is childish.
You don't even need the tactics in the OP to beat a 3gen.
-
"Just don't care about getting kills" and "let everyone escape and you'll never stress again!" If you want a 2k you better be ready to stress out!"
Of course, you won't stress if you're just dicking around letting everyone escape. What is this logic!?
The forum is filled on a daily basis with people crying about losing a few matches but it's the "others" who are stressing too much about a 2k...?
-
Hyperbolic posts like these do nothing to help the "solo queue is hard" and "I SWF to have fun" crowds.
The rest of us play the game too you know? We know what you say isn't occurring.
"The game is the most balanced it's ever been!" This old line. More balanced than completely imbalanced to the point where a developer played ONE match as the killer and then they nerfed flashlights a couple of months later, is still imbalanced.
Let's say you have a table with 4 legs and two of them are too long. If you were to cut one leg so that it's even with the other 2 it would be more balanced than before right? But it would still be off balance correct?
Just admit you like the easy wins that DBD provides while playing survivor.
-
To get good at solo queue take off exhaustion perks. Don't get accustomed to the crutch. Focus on getting better at looping, timing, and map awareness.
Going for the saves you think you can't get away from are the ones you should go for. They teach you how to get better. You can't be afraid of not escaping when trying to get better at the game.
-
I've only been running chase perks lately. They seem to be on a warpath with gen regression perks. So rather than get accustomed to something that's just going to be nerfed in a few months I'm avoiding them for the most part. Enduring, Brutal, Bamboozle, and Agitation are what I use on everyone at this point.
Can't be nerfed if you don't use any of the stuff survivors complain about! bigbrain It'll be META in a week or two, you wait and see.
-
All of the focus currently seems to be on bringing solo queue in line with SWF in regards to balance.
Hopefully, after that, they do some killer QoL changes and bug fixes. Traps on stairs for starters. It's just silly that it's still around at this point.

If that happens, what's your plan to prevent the already heavily killer-sided solo queue from becoming a wasteland?
And "voice comms" are not the answer. If you ever played an online game with voice comms, you know exactly why.
If you're solo queueing you're being put with at the very least a 2 man SWF. When I'm solo queueing I can tell the majority of my matches are with 2 or 3 man SWFs being hyper-altruistic for each other. It's probably close to 9 out of 10 matches. So maybe 10% of my matches are full solo squads.
So this mythical solo queue you all talk about doesn't actually exist anymore. So why should they keep balancing around something that no longer even exists?
And according to player count stats they aren't getting new players unless they're hemorrhaging them at nearly the same rate, so again why balance around something that doesn't exist?
-
The updated Legion chase music with the add-ons altering it is chefskiss
I jammed out trying all the different combos on the PTB.
-
So the killer isn't chasing or hooking and all that's happening is every now and then you have to avoid a few chains. And that's somehow a problem? Aren't you all escaping at that point? It's not possible for a killer to guard the box, and their totem, as well as run around getting downs/hooks.
-
They're really close to killer bots so everyone's going to be in their own bot matches eventually. You can even set up survivor bots to gen rush now!
-
The bigger problem is using the perk midchase. If the killer moves even a few feet from a pallet after the drop you've got enough time to pick it up, for most of them.
An entire removal of a cooldown was called a "slight buff" that's all that needs to be said at this point.

When one survivor has it*
-
The day I drastically reduced my time playing killer was when I got stunned at the same locker by each survivor right after each other.
A balanced game would have DR on stuns so something like that couldn't be possible. If killers could make it so survivors couldn't do anything at all it would get nerfed.
-
If you're facing an even slightly competent survivor the game is only balanced in their favor. The amount of techs and exploits survivors have is ridiculous.
-
They doubled the number of pallets on every map unless you break them right when they're dropped.
So nope, not looking forward to it. Especially not solo queue. Lots more lost matches because SWFs will be too busy trying to torture someone with their new toy.
-
They make changes based on feedback. They nerf killers and their perks quite often. They don't have much time for new game modes when they're testing out all the nerfs that get asked for.
/sarcasm
-
I'm really disappointed. I used it before it was buffed because it was good then, it was great after the buff. I wish they would've just reduced the incapacitation back to its pre-buffed state instead of removing it altogether.
People talking about being carried by perks when there's one that literally makes you invulnerable...
Bad survivors though trying to play like after this perk is nerfed bad killers will lose more. Come on, they're just going to start tunneling and camping you more. You think you're getting somewhere by getting killers nerfed when all you're doing is making the game more miserable for everyone.
slowclap
All you had to do was avoid kicked generators. And if you were letting the killer kick every single one before getting a down, well there's not much that can be said at that point. And if the worry was 3-gens, if it reached a point where they were able to kick all 3 gens and get a down before you finished one of them, again not much can be said.
-
@Aven_Fallen said:
Incapacitated should not exist outside of Killer Powers (like Victor or Pinheads Chains). So I am happy if they remove it from any Perks.
And this has nothing to do with "Survivors crying", it is just really bad gamedesign to be forced to do nothing for some amount of time.
I mean, how bad would it be if the Killer can be incapacitated? Maybe not for 25 seconds, but for like 7 seconds? This would really suck and should not be a thing.
A status-effect which simply blocks almost all ways of playing the game should really be quite rare and only related to some Killer-Powers.
Then how do you think the developers should give killers a way to slow down survivors working on generators? Because that's the only objective survivors have and stopping them from doing it is one of five objectives the killer has. So killers have to have a way to slow it down and since everyone cries about gen slow down perks too what other options are there?
There has to be a way for the killer to stop survivors from doing gens outside of hooks and chases because you've got 3 other people working on gens while you're doing that.
If anything they need more incapacitating effects along the lines of pre-buffed Eruption. There need to be more ways to keep survivors off generators to move away from the killer meta we have.

you haven't been doin this for 6 years ,old dh was just press E for i frames and a good amount of distance,,you couldn't w8 it out,you couldn't really play around it ,,The perk while being the most picked exhaustion perk atm is at its best and healthiest it has ever been,,,there's some counterplay ,more in some cases and less with other cases but it's there,,,I hope they never touch the perk ever again,,,nerf it and it becomes useless buff it and it moves back to the old days,,
You could wait out or bait old DH. It was less effective because they got more distance then but you still could do it.
You're claiming the person who used to only eat their poop, but now only has it for 2 meals a day, is now "the most healthy they've ever been" basically.
"Nerf it and it becomes useless!" That's been said hundreds of thousands of times across all of gaming and guess what? It never comes true. The OP thing gets nerfed and it still gets used. The people who only used it because it was OP will stop using it though. But should you keep something OP just to keep people using it?
-
There's no such thing as a baby killer. This game isn't getting new players so frequently that all of you are getting matched with "baby killers" all the time.
The key to not getting lobby dodged. Get off comms, stop SWFing, and play the game the way it's balanced around being played. Leave the sweat squad stuff to CoD.
"We just want to have fun together!"
Meanwhile, you're calling out plays like you're in an E-thports league or something.
-
"To give it a slight boost we're removing the cooldown entirely."
Is that what we're calling slight boosts now?
It had a 60-second-long cooldown. That's not a slight boost that's a massive buff. It really does seem like they're trying to push players away from the killer. My guess is they're very close to working killer bots which will solve all of their problems.
It answers the question now. Do you break the pallet or keep chasing? You break the pallet. Every time. No question. Otherwise, you're setting yourself up for doubling the map's pallets.
@Snowflake_Syndrome said:
Brutal Strength approaching meta.
I already use it on almost every killer. The number of pallets and doors and the occasional gen kick the .5s here and there add up.
@Entitled_survivor said:
How is it gonna be abused exactly ? the pallet stuns don't last that long so you can't really reset while killer is recovering,, it's just a random buff to a random perk
There are THREE other survivors in the game with you. It basically means after the patch every pallet HAS to be broken or you're giving the survivors DOUBLE the pallets.
"But that's only with SWFs!"
SWFing constitutes over 80% of matches according to the developers' own statistics! The data is from years ago so it's guaranteed to be higher than that now.
-
This is why killer descriptions shouldn't be so vague. There should be a detailed breakdown of cooldowns, durations, percentages, etc. It would clear a lot of these types of posts up.
-
If it's not campy horror like scary movie then it won't work. I feel like most people who play the game would laugh through a seriously attempted DBD horror movie. Unless they do it, the killer gets stomped by flashlights and pallets, and all 4 people survive the movie. But what kind of horror movie is it where no one dies ever?
-
Can't speak for everyone. But they're not easy to pull off, so when I finally do I want to be able to see the thing I put the effort into achieving.
-
They seem to be in an endless cycle of pleasing a player base that will never be pleased. Unless they're gaining players as fast as they're losing them they aren't drawing new players in. So trying to balance or cater the game to new players is a bit silly. If anything it seems there's a slow leak.
As someone else said a 4k should require sweat. But 1ks and 2ks shouldn't, which quite a few of the killers do unless you resort to what everyone calls "unfun" tactics. They have "balance", but it's probably not because a few survivors die each match it's more likely they have a bunch of full escapes and 4ks balancing themselves out with a smattering of 1-3ks when it should be the other way around.
Getting 4ks all the time due to slugs/camping/tunneling isn't as much fun as getting a random assortment of kill amounts from 1-4 with a few full escapes because you were all enjoying the game. Just like it can't be fun running 4-man sweat squads to a full escape every match night after night. That's why the flashlight tea-bagging stuff started. Out of boredom. The game is too easy as the survivor. You literally have to face killers who can ignore game mechanics to struggle. And that's why those killers are the most played.
Maybe they could start trying to balance the game more evenly so that it's fun and fair for both sides.
Just a baked perspective is all. Nothing vitriolic here.
✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
I come in peace!
-
I saw some people play against her and it seems like her drones are really easy to avoid. Just avoid the rotating walls and turn it off. They know where you are but the drone is gone and now they have to make it to you. So unless it's going to keep you from working on a generator (and you can hide behind the generator if they placed their drone poorly) leave it until they're in chase then destroy it. And at that point just run right up to it it takes 20 seconds for it to mark you as vulnerable once you're detected.
So put them on gens and hope for the best?
-
I think a lot of us kind of figured after the 10s increase to gen times they would start swinging the nerf bat on all the gen regression perks.
One step forward and two steps back.
-
Because the game is developed around what is annoying and not what is fair or balanced.
It took one of the developers being chain flashlight stunned by 1s cast time flashlights repeatedly while getting zero hooks for it to get nerfed.
It's the echo chamber they've created too on their forums. Start criticizing too harshly and you get disappeared.
-
It better have flashlight clicking, t-bagging, and every survivor has to be whiny and sarcastic like that scene from the first Scary Movie where she's like "is this the part where I fall and break my leg" and then she purposefully breaks her own leg. If it's sarcastic and campy where the survivors aren't really scared of the killers and the killers keep getting stunned by randomly placed pallets! That could possibly be the greatest scary movie ever made.

Survivors find the maps annoying, perks annoying, hooks annoying, chases annoying....the list goes on and on.
If they catered to every whine and complaint about what's annoying to survivors all killer players would have is a lungless trapper with no addons or perks.
