I know, I got all excited about it and almost even bought the battle pass thinking like “heck yeah back on the grind”.
hilariously also dbd ran better on my Ubuntu than the windows 10 what the laptop had before.

Wow what an absolute slap on the face. And then getting the same copy-and-paste reply we have had for an year every time we ask for an update. Really bummed out for this. 0 actual meaningful communication about the situation with the support. I don’t need another “sorry we tell more at the future”- mod reply. I want actual answers and “where are we now” timeline communication. >_>

THANK YOU DEVS THANK YOU!!! <3<3

Note that in order to prevent actual cheating, EAC is just a band aid, not more. It's like putting steel bars on your door to prevent burglars from intruding your home, but leaving the windows untouched.
EAC has no notion or idea what cheating means in DBDs context. Remember that EAC is used to "protect" all sort of games. The thing which EAC does is trying to prevent other applications to access DBDs process space and modifying variables. It probably also has some sort of integrity protection which tries to detect when the DBDs executables (or itself) are modified.
However, it does not check whether some survivor's DBD client reports "Hey, I've hooked a survivor, although I am not even the killer". That has to be done by behavior on their servers.
Theoretically, one does not even need to modify the DBD executables when one reverse engineers how the communication between the server and client works. With this method, nobody needs to crack EAC at all.
Worst of all, EAC is guaranteed to be able to be circumvented. Since it only runs on your computer, over which you have the full control over, it is possible to patch all integrity checks (and all checks for that matter) of EAC completely out and do whatever you want. Of course this is not easy, but it is possible. From behaviors point of view, any player's computer should not be trusted - that's crucial! However, in the current state of the game, the server seems to simply believe everything the client tells them, which is really sad. Some things are easy for the server to check, e.g. the aforementioned "a survivor hooks a killer". Wallhacks in contrast, are essentially impossible to detect server-side, since all the player's positions has to be made known to all players at some point. But many flashy things we are seeing in DBD's cheating scene right now should not be possible if there are any checks in place (on the server!) at all.
Checking on behaviors servers has the advantage that the servers are fully controlled by behavior. Anything the server prevents from being done cannot be done. Proper checking on the server is the key to prevent most of cheating - and it's the only way. Anything on the player's computer can be bypassed in some way - not on the server (unless the server itself gets hacked).
So, updating EAC is nice, but will not help at all against this massive influx of cheating. Because for this to change, behavior has to work on this part of their code. EAC doesn't help at all with this.
Oh ######### so basically their servers don’t check at all if people catch packets and modify and send modified packets back? Oh damn that’s not great at all. No wonder stuff is going all over.

Let’s be totally honest here. It’s not like they would update their anticheat to support linux when they can’t even update their anticheat to block blatant cheating from the game. Have you seen content creators lately? Everyone’s harassed by cheaters and I don’t even start with the IP leak problems.

Unfortunately BHVR is very slow on anything they do regarding DBD. Updates, fixes, events, answers to the community and even harassment towards their content creators. If they take time with matters like these, imagine something """less important"""" like Linux Gaming.
How many years it has been since they announced cross progression coming into DbD? Yeah, I don't have my hopes up. Luckily there's other 4vs1 games I can look into, that actually run on linux. I'm not getting a windows partition because of one game.

I have come to realize that we might misunderstand the problem. It may be possible that there are significant issues with DbD in Proton that aren't connected to EAC at all and the devs are just "blocking" (not a bad thing necessarily just some lacking transparency) them behind the lacking EAC support until they can fix those since DbD is a game that's been fighting prejudice of being incredibly buggy and exploitable for years and the devs have apparently recently started to see that as an actual problem, hence the many bug, cheat and exploit fixes they gave.
A game that runs in Windows can be lacking in proton even without EAC, many don't always remember that when being blocked by EAC since then EAC is the most obvious point of attack and I'm embarrassed to have been one of them. I wish to offer my apologies to people I may have been passive aggressive too.
@MandyTalk, do you have the freedom to state whether or not the devs are currently actively working on Linux support at least if it is planned to be worked on any time soon? Of course no hard feelings if you can't state anything to that issue, and I apologize if the constant questions are getting annoying.
Honestly if that is the case I would personally understand and respect a straight answer instead of an excuse. I'm pretty sure everyone who runs linux understands there can be problems porting games into it, and it would be easier to patient if the reason actually is "hey we need to address these problems before we can publish for linux" instead of "hey we take a year to toggle a switch in the settings of EAC".
edit: btw I feel like i need to address my name fast if MandyTalk reads my comments at some point. My name is also Mandy and I unfortunately created this account before I realized there's a mod sharing The Best Name with me. I'm not trying to be hostile, I was just avid Kesha fan when I created my internet nickname. ;_;

Oh no "no ETA" sounds depressingly much same like the switch cross progress with it's "no ETA".
Basically it wont ever happen. >__>

Next week is the anniversary. This would be the perfect anniversary gift!
Please, BHVR! We're as tired of asking as you are of hearing from us. XD the best way to make us go away is to just enable it. XD
Don't get your hopes up, just gonna hurt more when the anniversary update hits and there's no support still.

Dredge update:
with Steam Native i was able to boot into the game this time, but the EAC client was not able to initialize.
i'm going to try installing the game under Steam Flatpak and see if there's any difference. will report back later.
ay, we're so close.
Didn’t work on flatpak either.
-
I just can’t fathom why would they want to block Linux users other than steamOs? Am I a bad person not worth to have on the playerbase just because of my OS? What the heck?
-
I'm waiting on this to happen too, I had to switch from windows to ubuntu, and dbd is the only game on my library that is currently borked. Would be a superb anniversary surprise to it to work. :3

If you mean to give more BP for killers during the busy time, then yes.
More people need to play killers to reduce the wait time.
yes

Could I get a reason why? I don't see why it would be bad.

It's a good idea, but I'd rather see incentives for whichever role is not being played atm.
I'd take this too, though. Anything to ameliorate the grind.
Oh, I may have worded my post little bit unclear. What I meant, was
When survivor queues are long (game lacks of killers), give a small BP boost to the killers, and other way around when killer queues are long.
-
@Dragonshensi said:
No. That just another incentive for survivors. You want quicker ques? Then the devs need to help bring in more Killers. Not enough killers to go around and most quit after awhile due to gen rush and just the absolute sweat of SWF. If anythjng, they need to give a little more something something to keep killers around.
I agree there's a plenty in this game that must be done to improve the quality of life of the game, but I don't see how giving a killer a small BP boost when survivor queues are long is incentive to survivors. Lot's of stuff has to be fixed, but this could be one of the something (but I agree, not the only something and it's not alone a fix) that encourages the killers (like myself) to play. ☺️

Come ooonnn, cheer up :D Some of my posts didn't get past 5 views until a week has passed from posting.
I like your idea. I find charms utterly uninteresting and I never use them. Custom basements, or even more animation taunts would be sweet. Plus involving the community in their creation is definitely the way to go.
It's true that controversial topics generate more reactions, most of the reactions are flames and trash talking anyway, so I dunno if that's much better.
I really wished the feedback and suggestions got little bit wind under their wings. I like to come up with ideas but it's bit dishearthening when nobody answers. I understand not all ideas are good, but a simple "why this wouldn't work" at least would be nice. I don't know how much devs actually even read the suggestions, maybe another suggestion toward the forum could be a "a dev has read this post" tag.

Why bother writing anything in these forums when only thing that gains any views or comments is when people complaing about stuff.

For me the autohaven is way too dark as a survivor and as a killer. And it's darker on high graphics than low, which is weird too. It's sad, autohaven used to be my favorite realm, but nowadays I hate playing in it, because I just can't see. I understand the game is a horror game but some of the maps are just ridiculously dark, so badly, that it affects the game play.
-
For me some of the autohaven maps are unplayable. I really can't see like at all on those maps. Even worse if i get hit by a for example, a frenzying legion, I am basically blind after that. MacMillan is a dark map too but it feels still easier to see, and other reworked maps are okay for me.It's just, autohaven feels somehow kinda "off", like something was broken. It's a shame, it used to be my favourite realm. ;_;
-
I have always seen it more as an SWF information perk than "I wanna stay hidden" perk. You only need the 3 tokens to know if killer has BBQ, nurses calling, bitter murmur, undying or a perk that shows aura. So more as a "Hey this thing here is a thing, look out for it" than a ninja perk designed to keep you hidden.

The thing is, I don't think anyone really cares about that. We have, what, 20 survivors? All anyone really plays are the original 6, with the occasional Kate, Feng, Ace, and Bill. How many Zarina mains do you know? How many Jane mains? How many Jeff mains? What about Laurie Strode or any of the other licensed characters other than Cheryl?
Are Jeff mains really that rare? I myself play Jeff and my friend mains him.
-
I'm survivor main, and nowadays only play with random perks or perks with a somekind of synergy going on. (for example like a loot build or healing build) I dont use exhaustion perks anymore neither.
-
I never got info if my support ticket was even read, sent info from a game where the killer afked and other two survivors (they afked on front of the gates so they couldn't be opened) kept me and my friend hostage for 15 minutes. I guess the report system is broken all the way.
-
Looping with a survivor, I have no idea how I'm rank 3 survivor rn even tho my loops suck.
-
If you don't like playing killer in red ranks, how about just taking the perks you wanna play with and killer you wanna play with, instead of meta? Okay, you'll lose some games first, but it drops you out of the red ranks sweating. I equip random perks when I get bored of the red ranks as a survivor, and it works + I'm actually having fun because I'm not using the repertative 5 perks.
-
Tbf the randomized sounds extra whacky and I love it.
-
I would be okay with Mao offering removal if they also revamped the map rotation. I hate the fact that the game dumbs me to the same maps all the time if I dont use an offering. Like, heck, even the game is better than Ironworks of misery or azarovs resting place 9th time in a row.
-
Tbh I don't really mind the ruin + undying combo, at least it feels there is something else to do than only gens. I kinda like the fact that it forces us to do some bones.
-
I just had a game as a survivor, where the killer was AFK, and 2 SWF blocked both exit gates the instant the gens were done. Spent 15 minutes in that match, before the killer activated and hooked me. The two guys who afked btw got out and called me a ######### at the end chat.
