Bring back Hug tech
-
I will give 10 Dollars/Euros to the person that can show me an actual good reason for why Hug Tech should be removed.
No that it was is a bug and everything involved with that logic is not a good reason.
No that Blight is to strong is also not a good reason.
Give me a reason where the Hug Tech is negative to the overall GAMEPLAY of DbD.

McLean who created Blight said this was never intended it isn't a feature. They failed the first attempt to fix it and now found a way to fix it. Either play a different killer or adapt. I hope crouch and fov tech are next.
Sometimes it is better to keep you mistakes cause something great can come from them... (read my comments for a better understanding)
Then maybe you can give an actual reason why the Hug Tech is a problem cause there is none...

So they shouldn't take away crouch tech, because it took me time to use it better, but do you think the other side is going to have fun just because I pressed a button and he missed the hit?
Regardless of the feedback, there will be people who will defend and people who are against, this bug is not something acclaimed and loved by 100% of people like bunnyhop which was a bug but became a mechanic because everyone liked it, hug tech only benefits one side and should be removed like all techs that use something unintentional to enjoy, and there's no point in saying that blight will be boring after that, because when it launched everyone said it was fun and cool to play, and at that time nobody knew about the techs
I'm sure that when it comes to the ptb feedback tab, no one will give a damn about the other things, there will be people saying to remove hug tech and people saying to keep it, but in the end, it won't change anything, because if bhvr sees that there are people who are against it, they will remove it, if it was something loved by everyone it would be different, but that's not the case
You cannot be serious…
1. There were many voices against the original Bhop in csgo and other games. There are reasons why it is Patched. In one of the biggest compilation Videos of Bhop there are people complaining that it is op (Because it was back then)
Nowadays Bhop does not make you faster anymore and is not a significant gameplay thing.
It is good that the original Bhop was fixed cause it made the game play different a significant amount. Blights hug tech is just another skill in the looping gameplay that has counterplay.
2. Crouch tech why, when and how it works is also a skill players do play around yes. And no I don't think it should be removed as it adds another layer of skill to looping (Do I make it back to the pallet or do I crouch and hope that he misses me)
And if you seriously wanna claim that hug tech and all the skills involved with it is just a button press you are delusional. Hug tech needs way more skill then crouch tech and has often more counterplay.
Hug Tech makes looping more fun for both sides (Trust me looping a hug tech Blight is better than a Bump logic certain hit blight) and adds another layer of looping skill and positioning paired with game knowledge (what is possible and what isn't)
3. Release Blight:
Release Blight was buggy had many issues and the players where still figuring him out. He was not loved…
But people stayed with him because they saw the potential of all the things they could do with his kit. Very soon they discovered the Hug Tech which opened up even more possibilitys and gave him a higher skill expression than ANY other killer has to this day.
Removing a part of this is hurting the game way more then it helps.
4. It depends on how the PTB Blight plays on what will happen. And no not every voice matters the same on if it should stay in the game or not.
A Clown Main that only plays him should have no opinion casue it does not affect them at all.
What really matters is the opinion of the playerbase mainly the Blight playerbase that have played him sometimes for thousands of hours. Cause if they say this is horrible and they quit nothing is gained. Just another killer ruined. (Remeber Hillbilly for the last few years???)
We don't know how it is played so we should wait, but it is already certain that a lot of people are already not happy even thinking about the fact that another skill expression is to be removed. -

This is actually true, but, you really want the ‘normal type of player’ that just came home from work, sit down on his chair, knows every spot, or have knowledge, about his tech, unless you train every day every hour with bilght, it’s actually impossible
Also, I’m going to compare my point with hug tech and crouch tech, both are really strong, and crouch tech for survivors are fun, but do you think is fun for the killer? Killers should know that survivors have a smaller hitbox when crouched? Crouch tech should be removed as well along with hug tech, and,one mod told us that the ptb is going to hapoen, and everthing could change, even hug tech becoming a 100% official thing, but, until then, it’s classified a bug, with crouch tech, that’s going to be removed soon
It's not impossible... yes it takes time but people have thousands of hours in the game and it has been out for years now.
It is super easy to learn looping and movement if you just try. And it's okay for games to also have a bit harder mechanical skill.
So no it’s not impossible y'all just have to step out off your comfort zone and play a few matches against a good Blight. (There are so many Communitys that want to teach players just ask)
And if you don't wanna learn that is fine but then don't complain when someone takes the time and is just better. Respect this skill instead of crying that it should be taken away.
And for the last time just because something is a bug does not mean it should be taken away. And just because the devs want to do something that does not mean that it should happen that way. This is why we give feedback in this post.

Well, you can expect the player to be happy when he does an hug tech, but do not expect to see a smile face from the survivor POV, so it's not fun for everybody
Did you know that you can counter Blights hug tech by understanding the killer and the game. With the correct positioning and good movement you can loop it like you would loop other killers. (This is often even much more fun than bump logic blight that just makes the 4 correct rushes for the 100% hit with little to no counterplay from the survivor side)
So you can learn both the hug tech and the counterplay you just need an actual understanding of what you are doing when looping and not just "me hold forward and me vault pallet" -

I love how players are complaining like, Oh now, Blights now are gonna use his rush and down survivors more fast instead of hug teching
This argument is so stupid, they are basically saying Blight is going to get better by playing the way he was supposed to be played?
I mean, hug tech is a huge lost, but players are overreacting about this, at the end of it all, he will still be a good character, but it was all a matter of time before it was removed, they can let Blight have hug tech after ptb, but please, let's test how he does in ptb, if his hitbox is really good and playable, it will avenge the removal of hug tech
it's not about if he is good or bad without hug tech. it is a fun skill that they are taking away from the players.

I just believe power should be consistent, not "consistent".
broo. you can learn it and it works consistent enough for players to go on streaks in the thousands.
this is legit just a skill issue for all the people that refuse to put time in this mechanical skill. and you don't have to play him if you want a simpler power go play something else.
Leave the fun thing in the game for people that want something that is a more complex mechanical skill. -

Whatever, I've connected more than hundreds of slide kills too but that was extremely map dependent and not exactly satisfying anyway.
The fact killer HAS TO learn every one of the stupid objects whether it can be bumped or not was stupid, I don't mind if they decide to let blight himself decide whether he slide or bump too.
I've even intentionally managed to get hit due to "slidable objects" and not of slide tech, more often than not I wishes I could bump "slidable object" though.
You just confirmed that a player has to learn the power and the maps to be good at the killer right now. Which would be changed and made easier with the patch.
That is not good game design. Most people agree on the fact that a hard and complex but fun and rewarding killer is better than a simple and easy to learn but dull killer.
(Otherwise they could just make a killer that has an M2 that has a 100% hit every 20 seconds. No one wants that cause it is boring to play as and against.)
That is why this change is horrible. It's not that it would make him weaker. It's just making him more boring and less complex for anyone playing him for a long time. -

If they want to make Hug tech an official thing, I am okay with it if that is what BHVR decides. I don't think Blight needs it and while it does add skill expression to the killer and likely more enjoyment for Blight mains, I believe it is generally unhealthy for the game and less fun for survivors overall. I mainly just disagree with comparing a bug tech to other techs in the game, and those who used the bug exploit complaining about its removal when they knew all along it was a bug and likely would be fixed in "years".
Blight does not need it and is still a Top tier killer without it yes.
The players that play and master him need it cause it is a difficult but fun mechanic that makes it possible to spend hours in dbd learning and mastering his skill expression.
The mechanic is not unhealthy and HAS good Survivor looping counterplay (more then bump logic blight) if the Survivors take their time understanding what is possible with blight. So it has skill expression on both sides.
That it is a bug doesn't matter as i have explained above.
Yes you can compare it to other techs because most techs in dbd where never intended and are bugs. This is fine that way and they should not be removed as this takes away depth form the gameplay.

@fulltonon said:
If I had to choose stupid bump mechanics that yeet my own blight on some stupid trees or rocks or removal of hug tech, I'd choose latter.
You make it obvious that you don't have much experience playing and learning Blight.
You just want an easier version of him because you don't want to learn the difficult high skill expression Blight he is right now.
Cause the slide mechanic is while difficult a mechanic consistend enough that good Blight players can master it and go on streaks in the thousands with him.
So while you feelings are valid why should it be a good thing to make the killer boring for the current Blight players just so that new ones have an easier time learning him?

No, but the devs are professional game designers, unlike your local blight enjoyer. Groups of people are frequently wrong about any given topic and sometimes experts know better regardless of popular sentiment.
SilvrSilvrCrane already brought it up but the Devs are not the "experts" on how the game is played. The experts on dbd and Blight are the top tier Killers and Survivors that play as Blight and against him. And all of them say that it is a stupid idea that hurts skill expression (see Momo or V1 on Twitter/X.)
The Devs are not perfect and they don't need to be as long as they listen to the community feedback. So pls stop telling people in the feedback post that their feedback is invalid cause the devs want it that way this makes 0 sense.
If you have a personal problem with how Blight is played you can express it.
-
Or how about this:
We say okay it is a bug. Our players like it and it has a lot of skill expression and mechanical details so we keep it cause it has been fine for years now.
If we want to balance our killer we focus on numbers and add ons.
This way we keep a mechanic that Blight players love (and yes that is fair if you learn it and how to play against it) and we still get to nerf blight in another form (give him 4 rushes, make him 5 percent slower, remove all the addons with speed and turnrate)
This way Blight is not Op and Blight players can still have fun with him problem solved???@Skitten56 said:

There is a difference between techs that use standard intended game mechanics to their advantage and techs that exploit existing bugs that have not been fixed yet.
Hug tech is performed by exploited a bug in the collision of objects. Stuff like CJ tech is just a part of the game, using knowledge of a game mechanic where an object cannot be interacted with while in use and thus is perfectly fine. BHVR should allow for more key binding options to avoid prompt issues but it isn't a bug.
So no, not all techs need to be removed, but Blights hug tech should be removed since BHVR has always identified it as a bug they intended to fix. Blight players relying on this tech were just exploiting the bug until BHVR patched it and shouldn't cry about it removal.

The devs disagree. I totally get where you're coming from, but when the devs specifically say that it isn't cool, it's a problem, and that it will be fixed, then it needs to be fixed - and definitely not encouraged to be exploited against other players.
There are things that I don't agree with that BHVR claims. For example, I'm not a fan of the game being a 1 vs many individuals as opposed to a team vs team, but it is what it is, and we need to balance around their intention.
The Devs are not an all knowing Entity and if they are smart, they balance around the opinions of their players that actually play and pay for this game. Therefore this argument is just wrong.
In a Feedback post, where Blight players voice that they think this is not good, it is not a valid thing to say but the devs don't like it and it should be removed.
We are here because the devs want it removed to ask them to keep it. Yes it is a bug but not all bugs have to be fixed and it is often smarter to keep some and reimplement them in the game (read my original comment). -

They literally said it was. I know people hate facts, but come on, if the devs literally say it's a bug that is NOT intentional - enough to be warranted as needing a fix…then you can't argue that they never said that. If you need a definition, In video games, an exploit is the use of a bug or glitch, or use elements of a game system in a manner not intended by the game's designers, in a way that gives an advantage to players using it.
If the devs say it is, and you say NUH UH, I don't know what to tell you.
Read my comment on why it is not a problem that it was a bug. The game has so many bugs that the community marked as techs. and this is not a problem but on the opposite a good thing that should be encouraged when it is not rly broken.
And no Blights Hug Tech is not broken or to strong you just have to learn how it works on both sides and get good with it.
-
Thank you I also saw your post and i agree with most of your takes there. But I wanted to make my own to make clearer points for the devs to orient themself cause I think this is a change that should not go live like this

It's stupidly stupid for the blight to slide through the structures and the survivor to be unable to do anything. Hug tech has to be removed, period.
that is just wrong. he is a strong killer yes but can be outplayed if you know how he works and it can come down to normal mindgames and precise movement and decision making.
-
In the new PTB you want to take away one "Bug" away from Blight that is seen by the general community not as a bug but as one of his strongest and best mechanics, the "Hug Tech".
I am strongly against this change and can give various reasons why it should stay.
1. It is not just a bug, and the community has long accepted it as a mechanic for him. Yeah, it was not intended when designing the killer, but that does not mean that it should be removed. This is especially true if you look at other killers with similar mechanics that don't get changed (Wesker) or when you have other Killer or Survivor techs in the game that are bugs but don't get changed (Shift Tech for Surv).
Yeah, those are bugs. But why should you not let the community discover the game and play it how they want to play it, discovering the quirks and rougher edges is often more fun than getting told exactly what you have to do.
Let me also remind you that the game at release was played very differently than it is played today, and one can imagine what would have happened if you had forced players back in the game how to play it.
2. You also write that you remove the Hug tech for a more consisted collision that is easier. What you fail to acknowledge though is that Blight is already consisted. The collision from objects work the same for every Blight, and things where you slide you slide and things where you bump you bump.
You can learn where what is the case and then consistently use it to your advantage as killer and as survivor. You can also learn how to manipulate this collision to use it better in chases.
This is difficult yes but if learned it is consistence in its own way and makes learning how to play the game more fun in the long run.
3. This brings us to the last point, the Skill expression. Blight is a strong but not an easy killer. Getting to know him on the maps where he bumps and slides is a large part of learning how to be effective with him, and a large part of the fun when playing him (and even playing against him). Taking the Hug Tech away is taking away the skill expression and fun one can have with the killer.
Solutions:
I would also offer some advice on what to do with the Killer and the Hug tech.
Games like Overwatch for example had an unintended movement mechanic with one of the supports, Mercy. Instead of just fixing this Bug, they implemented it as a feature, making it from a bug to a feature. If you want to go this route, you could for example make Blight always slide for the first 10% of a rush and then always make him bump. I feel this could be a nice compromise, although I am not sure how well it would actually work.
You could also just leave Blights core mechanics alone and instead focus on other parts of his kit that are still too strong. (Cooldown, Pallet Breaking, Iri Add-ons etc.)
