This thread is clearly about RE2 rather than the series as a whole, but sure, let's expand the net a bit. Nemesis is hardly any better than Mr. X in that regard. If we're taking the series as a whole, there's no other choice but...sigh...Wesker. He's intelligent, is willing to play a subordinate role to get what he wants, and is simply the flagship antagonist for the series.
On that note, Leon and Claire can't be the survivors, either. It would have to be Jill. Well, her or Chris, but I just can't see Chris in the survivor role - helpless, needing to run and hide from every killer. Even Jill's a bad fit for that, but who isn't? Maybe Rebecca? She's pretty pathetic by Resident Evil standards. Or we could completely lose our minds and pick someone truly unknown like Moira Burton or Cindy Lennox.

I'd say it doesn't fit with the lore, but we have Bill (well, some of us) so I guess that's okay. We can't have a mindless killer, though, as the Entity wouldn't be interested in that. Birkin's the only BOW that it might be interested in, and even that's a stretch. Maybe Chief Irons? He's a pretty sick bastard.

They probably talk quite a bit in their "off hours", killers are survivors both. I can imagine the survivors maybe whispering or shouting something to each other during the trial, but this isn't reflected in the game itself. I wouldn't read too much into it; it's probably partially an artistic decision and partially a cost-saving measure when it comes to internationalization.
Off the top of my head, I think Dwight's perks have attached quotes that only make sense in the context of him talking to other survivors in the Entity's domain.

We currently have 9 male survivors and 6 female survivors, or 6 and 5 (respectively) if you don't include licensed characters. If they want an even balance, the next survivor should be female.
Incidentally, we also have 8 male killers and 5 female killers (5 and 4 unlicensed), not including Legion, so the same logic applies.
Of course, BHVR is under no obligation to preserve such a balance. I just thought that was interesting.

Have you ever had a three-gen game that dragged on forever because the survivors crouched in a dark corner waiting for a miracle to occur? Without the hatch, that will be every single killer victory. It boggles my mind to think that you complain about the time lost to hatch standoffs and then turn around and say you want it removed entirely.
The hatch is there for the killer's benefit, not the survivor's. If you killed three survivors and the last one hatched out, you won.
