Hey fellow fog peeps!
Ive only been playing DBD for about 2 years but Ive noticed lately there seems to be a downward shift of overall morale for the game. Ive been racking my brain trying to get ideas on how to change this.
One idea I had was for players to have the ability to gift shards to eachother after the game. Instead(or in addtion to) of the tradtional thumbs up, I thought it would be interesting to nice to have the ability to actually reward eachother for a good game. Especially for console players like myself who do not have a end game chat ability. Just imagine you had a fantastic random survivor who saved you multiple times or took hits. Or a killer who made the game absolutely intense with stellar use of their abilities. Or maybe even as a consolation prize for a survivor who got camped in game or a killer you bullied with flashlights.
overall, I feel like having the ability to give eachother little rewards would genuinely improve the mood of all players in the game. Make you feel as if your part of the match was valued.
what do you guys think? What other ideas do you have?❤️
That is a really good starting point for something that could have a positive impact on a large portion of the community!
Good on you for trying to come up with a solution!

Oh hey i agree completely again, its a crutch : D And well whats fun depends on the person playing so im certain some people find it fun.
So, there is nothing toxic or inherently bad about tunneling and if a person thinks tunneling is fun, they should go ahead and tunnel. It is most definitely a crutch though.
I somewhat agree. It can be a crutch if the killer has limited skills and isn't working on expanding his skill set.
Overall its more of a tool in the toolbox for the right applications.
-
You do tunnel gens. You keep going after the same one over and over until its finished. You are doing the objective and being persistent on that objective.
Its a direct comparison to tunneling from a killer. My objective is to kill survivors. If I go for the same survivor over and over, I can remove it from my objective list. The survivor can get healed and I have more work to knock them down again.
I think the community need to start talking about survivors tunneling gens.

If it's SWF and the killer is camping the hook, it's only logical to want your friends to have fun, no? So, it's very predictable and effective strategy to camp and tunnel, but at the same time is going to ruin the match for the rest of the players. That's being selfish, a party breaker, and possibly even competitive although the game isn't competitive and will never be treated as one. Although we may make the decision to unhook, you do make the decision whether our friend can have a bit fun or if he or she gets it cut short; That's all onto you.
No, not really. Tunneling the survivor with the most hooks is always going to be worth it, but I'll give you a credit here, as that's going to depend on the area where tunneling will have to occur; It's not worth going to the part of the map with no generators to ensure one survivors' survival or sacrifice, if it gets to cost you all the remaining generators.
I don't believe, this is a matter of your physical health or age, but more of matter of your mental age; Meaning, even somebody who's at their fourties could possibly carry over the frustration like a children, and vice-versa. Therapy, all of the options do cost money.. Which isn't to mean to sound like arguing, but that most people will gladly keep their frustration if it means saving up energy that they could use while they're frustrated. Naturally, not everybody behaves immaturely.
Oh, I must've been so wrong! No, it's all onto the killer; Killer's decision, killer's fault. The survivors doesn't get to choose what's going to happen under this case scenario, it's all in the hands of the killer. If you're going to disagree, then I'll drop it. I've thought that being considerate of others' feelings and emotions even in PvP games was normal and to be expected, but I guess.. I was wrong and too naïve.
If flashlight is such an issue for you, why don't you use Franklin's Demise? Alright.. If eating a perk slot matters so much, then.. Good job on attempting to ruin the match for that player, although I'm not going to fully blame you; Half of it goes for the survivor for even bringing the flashlight to the match. There is never a reason to tunnel at five generators, unless at least three generators are being repaired in the meantime and about to pop.. Which does literally never happen, and you're only making excuses here. Fine, have it your way; Like I've mentioned, I'll drop it here.
I see, that's a competitive behavior. Nothing wrong with that, until you do decide to deliberately play in a way to ensure ruining the experiences of the other players. If you're in a huge advantage and you do tunnel at five generators... Shame on you, really.
No need to respond to this. I'm dropping it, so even if you were to respond, you wouldn't get any response from me.
Once again, PvP games are inherently selfish in the context of playing against the opposing side. The killers job is not to worry about your fun. His job is to kill you in any way the game allows. Survivors are also selfish....they use flashlights, they body block, they take perks that make the killers job frustrating. Each side is supposed to be selfish for THEIR SIDE. Its not hard to understand. It is hard to think clearly when you're tilted though which is what this entire conversation is about. Survivors Tilting because they have reached their player skill cap and cant handle losing.
Tunneling the most hooked survivor is not always worth it. There are plenty of times tunneling can be detrimental to your match as a killer. In those times, Survivors want the killer to tunnel to keep the killer busy.
Yes, naïve is a good term for your sentiment on PvP games and being considerate of peoples feelings. I don't intend or want to hurt someones feelings, but im not going to throw my match because someone might be upset by losing. Thats the most ridiculous reason to not do your job as the killer.
I use other perks and choose not to use Franklins demise. Flashlights are an issue for me, but its an issue I can remedy in game. I dont need to create threads trying to ban survivors who use flashlights. Again, thats just silly. I get hit with a flashlight, lose the carried survivor; I say "SOB", chuckle, and go after that person until the flashlight is no longer an issue.
Ive been playing online PvP games since 1997. I have never had the intention to ruin someone's day by playing the game and doing my part within the game.
There is no Shame in tunneling. Just as there is no shame in survivors tunneling generators.
I hope you drop it. I hope you learn to deal with tunneling; as in dont get angry about it, and learn to punish the Killer in game for doing it. The better a survivor is at making decisions in game to counter the killers plan, the more fun the game becomes. The better a killer gets as countering Survivors plans, the more fun the game becomes.

Killer can win without tunneling but can survivors win without doing gens?
Stop tunneling your gens.
You need to stop doing the gen at 33% then move to another gen and do that until all gens are at 33%. Then start working them all to 66%, then get them all to 100%.
Thats the scenario you are saying needs to

I don't think, you can really apply the statement or argument about skill, if the survivor has no time to run and make it to a safe spot before the killer hits the same survivor again, refusing to hit the rescuer instead. This isn't about luck or skill anymore, but about your gameplay. You can't possibly claim that it takes skill to hit a survivor once if there's no obstacle in your way. I'd have accepted it, if you'd have presented in a better way - It takes skill to predict the survivor's movement and end chases quicker when you can't see or hear the survivor.. But this? This isn't about skill whatsoever.
The way I see it, most players do carry the frustration over, which is .. I don't know, I don't understand it myself. If I get frustrated, I do play the match to its end and then take a break until I feel better or play something else.
The tunneled person gets to play only like.. ~33% of the game, probably even less, as ~50% of the game is playing as a killer, then there're interaction between repairing generators and timing your skill checks, as well as cleansing and blessing the totems.. Healing and unhooking the survivors.. So, getting chased is only like ~15% of the game. That's like being forced to stay iddle or something.. And, no, I wouldn't say that they get to play the game the most, especially if the killer literally camps the hook, refuses to create longer distance than ~10 meters from the hook, and then runs after the unhooked survivor right-away and refusing to hit the healthy survivor, who's attempting to body block the killer and saving the unhooked survivor. This is absolutely the killer's fault for choosing the way the killer plays; You've mentioned that the killer gets to choose how they play, and if that's the case, then how come their gameplay isn't „their fault“, as in based on their decisions? That's one huge contradiciton, unless you've meant to present yourself in a different way and haven't.
There're are no other reasons beside turning the match into your favor or to ruin the match to the tunneled player. What I don't understand is that you haven't mentioned any other reason, yet, you've disagreed with me and claimed that there are other reasons? If so, please, do mention them in your next response.
Mmm, yes, pretty much. That's just the way PvP works. I'm not gonna argue here.
That was quite of an exaggeration of mine, I can admit that.. But it is somewhat unsportsmanlike, dependable on the situation and reason for tunneling. If you do tunnel because ruining the matches does satisfy you, then it's clearly unsportsmanlike, just like it is unsportsmanlike to tunnel because the survivor is playing with character X instead of character Y; Such gameplay is marked as a bannable offense, I might add, but it's almost impossible to tell the reasonings as to why the killer targets the specific survivor; Sure, the reasons do eliminate each other in different case scenarios, but you'll always have to pick one or multiple possibilities, and in case of multiple possibilities, you'd never know which ones' taking the priority. For example, tunneling at five generators while having the majority of generators affected by white aura due to Surveillance's effect is unreasonable and done only to ruin the match to the player or to get the challenge done. You do tunnel, because the requirement is to win or perform better in the match, and your odds of performing better are greatly increasing with lower amount of survivors in the realm, afterall. But, it's absolutely reasonable to tunnel when three generators are done, and you've only hooked all survivors once.. That's absolutely understandable, and even if you tunnel that one survivor, it will very likely result in three or two escapes at max.
No, not every reason is valid, because different reasons do apply under different circumstances. Like I've mentioned in this response, tunneling while the survivors are struggling to get even one generator done is absolutely unreasonable. You're putting them under so much pressure that they can't even recover, yet, you're going to put them even under more pressure? That's just unreasonable and overdoing it when it's not even close to necessary.. That's just being the party breaker.
If i only have to hit the unhooked survivor right off the hook once, then your team didn't bring the right perks. That's the survivors decision. You seem to be attempting to blame the killer for bad decisions on the survivors part.
It takes skill to know when tunneling is better than not tunneling. Just like when camping is better than not camping. They all have their uses. If a killer uses them wrong, survivors can make a decision that punishes the killers misstep.
When i was a kid, I would carry that frustration over. Now i play so I can have fun...win or lose I say "GG" and move on to the next game as if its my first of the day. If a player cant handle their frustration, there are options....therapy, choosing other sources of fun that don't cause them mental suffering. ect..
You keep saying its the killers "fault" but that is inaccurate. That is the killers decision. Fault is being responsible for an accident or misfortune, an error, mistake ect.. If the killer wins and tunneling worked, it wasn't a fault. Killers don't need to care about survivors feelings or gameplay. We need to kill all 4 survivors at the end of the game. You don't have a choice in the matter as a survivor. You have options for yourself but if you choose wrong, you'll be back here on the forum complaining more.
I disagree with tunneling at 5 gens being wrong. If I chase a survivor at 5 gens and a flashlight starts hitting me, I'm going to remove that player from the game as quickly as possible. That flashlight is going to go away. if that means camping and tunneling at 5 gens....not a problem. There are reasons at 5 gens to do so.
As a killer, I do not want to let up once I've created an advantage. I want to continue exactly what is working against that team. Each survivor team is different so what works against them are going to be different. I may camp and tunnel immediately if its an organized SWF. If its a casual team, Ill play more casual. The point needs to be driven home that survivors can massively influence the game with their own playing, but they have no say in the killers decisions.
-
You didn't cause the survivors lag. Why give them a free pass for something you have no control over? Kill them all!

But which decision should be more worth it for killer. That should be going after unhooker. So Ds should be basekit with 3,5s stun.
The best decision depends on a lot of circumstances.
-How many gens are done
-how skilled are the survivors(what youv'e witnessed so far)
-****Do any survivors have items that are hampering your ability to efficiently kill all 4 survivors?*
-Is the unhookee or unhooked the closest and most efficient target to go after?
-What map are you on?
-did any survivor bring items that stretch the distance between hooks? Gotta make hooks you get count more now!
the list goes on and on. All together they give the killer the ability to make a decision on who they want to go after.

Tunneling ruins the entire match for not just the targeted player, but for the rest of the players aswell.
Whoever gets tunneled doesn't get to play the game, and the same applies to the killer; All he or she gets to have is a survivor downed within one hit, unless there are other perks' effects present, which is rarely the case. The rest pf the players do get no interaction whatsoever, but M1 simulator and watching gears of generators moving up and down from being repaired.. That's so much fun..
You do wanna play the game, have some chases there and there, from time to time watch your character scream in pain (from survivor's POV) and either get sacrificed for the team or escape; Nobody really cares.. As long as the chases were somewhat challenging and there were funny moments from time to time, nor the survivor nor the killer will care about the amount of hooks.
Those who tunnel do it, because of two reasons; Reason one being, it's oppressive and very effective at dealing with really good survivors, as it reduces the speed the generators can be progressed at and removes one more prey required to be caught. The second reason being, they're ruinin the match. Yup, and they do enjoy every second of it.. Sadists, who do ruin the game to literally every single player.
The moment you start tunneling, you're selfish or playing in a heavily biased way. There's no AI, each survivor character is controlled by a player, and if you don't care.. Well, then you're being unsportsmanlike, ain't that right?
I do despise of tunneling, but I will definitely tunnel cheaters and griefers; Those do deserve it the most.. Or the most stubborn ones; For example, I do return after failing to find a survivor, only to find the recently unhooked survivor right on another generator, not even taking the time to heal and not bothering to run away from me.. Yeah, I'll take it and hook the same survivor again, as I don't feel like giving them a free outta jail card just because they've happened to be hooked recently.
I do only tunnel because the challenges do force me to - Gain X iridescent Emblems, for example.. And I'm never having fun when I'm playing that way.. Never..
Some i agree with and some I don't.
I don't think tunneling ruins the match for anyone. It makes people mad that they weren't good enough to escape the killer and they were the first one out due to bad luck and lack of skill.
As soon as the match is over, you're free to start a new one and play more. Just don't carry your frustration from the first match to the next one.
The person tunneled does get to play the game. You could say they get to play the game the most during their time being chased. If they have a lower skill level, the chases are quick and that's not the killers fault.
The reasons for tunneling you mentioned are accurate, but the number of killers doing it to make people angry is few and far between. Just because you feel the killer is doing it for this reason doesn't make it true. Its impossible to differentiate between them without an outright admission. Either way its a valid strategy that the killer has in order to make the best and most efficient play under the circumstances.
PvP play in general is selfish. Two players on opposite sides should always play with winning in mind. if you are not being selfish, you're throwing the match as a killer. Survivors need to be selfish with the killer(and they always are) but selfless with their teammates at times. Efficiency and intentional moves are key to winning any PvP game. Why would the killer be intentionally SELFLESS to the opposing team when it is the least efficient move and causes the killer to lose?
I would say that you are being unsportsmanlike when the killer and survivors farm BP in a game. The match is essentially not being played in a competitive nature. No sport. I would say its unsportsmanlike to talk trash in chat or teabag at the exit gates/pallets. Being a sore winner is not better than being a sore loser. This includes killers rubbing in a win during end game chat as well.
You're making reasons as to why you tunnel....but it doesn't matter. Any reason is valid as it is the killers decision to do so and the survivors don't get to make the killers plan. Thats part of the fun for me as a survivor is no knowing who the killer is at first, then not knowing how they play the game and being unable to predict the killers moves.

tell that nonsense to the people on the other side of that.....and see how long people hang around on the game, if the game is miserable for someone they arent going to play it anymore....and that seems to be the ultimate goal with being able to take one player out every match and it does nothing but guarantees a w for one side.....if you cant see that as a problem, then theres nothing anyone is going to say thats going to change your mind.
No, the ultimate goal is to slow generator progress by making it 3v1 instead of 4v1.
I play survivor whenever i want to play with friends and occasionally solo que. Ive been camped and tunneled and its part of the game. The draw to being a killer is making decisions and having different options to achieve the goals. If you make a wrong decision, you risk survivors escaping. The right decisions mitigate that risk such as tunneling certain players at the right times.
Instead of complaining about it on a forum, why aren't you playing to increase your skill level to counter tunneling and punish it? you have the ability to make tunneling less effective and a bad decision by wasting the killers time.
-
@Bran said:
Tunnelling isn't so cut and dry. There is actual definition to it than just hitting the person who just got unhooked.
My own definition of tunnelling is "Specifically targeting a player for a specific reason and ignoring anything else, most likely to be toxic or mean overall".
An example is going after someone who has ttv in their name since they have ttv in their name. Someone who you believed was toxic i.e. flashlight as pallet or t-bagging.
Not an example is punishing an unhook if they were unhooked in close proximity to you. Essentially a bad unhook. Or going after someone who has already been hooked instead of someone who hasn't if you can choose between 2 people to chase when neither has been the previous chase.
Tunnelling or sometimes re-hooking can be done organically and isn't inherently toxic as is.
How is punishing an unsafe unhook better than punishing flashlight? If you have a flashlight and have used it, you are a threat to the killer. Why would the killer want that to continue?
Do you let the mosquito on your arm continue to suck your blood after you notice it? I bet you swat it which prevents it from ever landing on you again. What if you miss but see it as it floats in front of you? Do you take another shot at it? Stop Tunneling mosquitos!

The need to tunnel is exactly a skill issue, knowing when to do it and when not to do it. If you're down to a generator remaining, it might just be better to kill off a survivor you just hooked as opposed to going for someone who's never touched a hook. However, tunneling randomly will just throw the game, so yes — there's a difference.
Surely not 100% of your games have been all sunshine and rainbows. I know pretty much all killers have been forced to tunnel a few times because the situation called for it.
Absolutely true.... Its a tool in the toolbox for the right situations.
an example I mentioned in another post, if a surviver is flashlighting me, I'm going to remove that player as quickly as i can to eliminate the threat of losing hooks and making my play less efficient.

So should survivors have to do gens? Why do gens when you can just loop the killer all day not our fault the killer is bad right
You can try to loop me all day...wont work for you...lol...but you can sure try! Were talking about tunneling...so that means you were already on the hook once...meaning you couldn't loop me enough the first time. Its more likely ill get you quicker the second time since youll have less pallets to choose from.

The need to tunnel is a skill issue and most if not all killers have the utilities they need not to tunnel . I play killer and don't tunnel and I do just fine or did just fine (before the changes)
Its absolutely not a skill issue. You're using that excuse as a crutch to make yourself feel better. Its a strategy to remove a player from the opposing team quicker which will slow the gens down, allowing the killer more time to hunt the other players.
Survivors arent required to leave a generator at 33% and start a new one. Why should a killer leave his objective at 33% to start a new one?
You complain killers are tunneling to ruin your fun. I dont' care about your fun. I don't know you. I'm playing for my fun and winning is fun.
You have complete control over your fun by not getting caught and escaping the map. If you cant do that, maybe it's a "skill issue" on your part?
-
A killer gets to chose who he/she is going after. If its the same person that just came off the hook....thats the killers decision. the survivors get no say in the matter. End of story.
-
If you sabotage my hook, I camp/tunnel.
If you body block while I'm hooking someone else, I'm going to hit you.....then camp/tunnel
If you Flashlight or Flashbang me....im going to camp/tunnel.
If you taunt me, tea bagging behind pallets, or standing and waving at me in the open.....im going to camp/tunnel.
If you do gens, get in chases(win or lose) and generally play casually....Ill play pretty casually and am happy with whatever comes of it.
If someone D/Cs and it wasn't due to my hooking them, One survivor gets a free pass at the end(unless one of my first 4 lines has occurred)
I camp and tunnel to remove someone from the game that is giving the survivors an advantage. I don't want a flashlight on their team because it can cause me to lose a hook. I don't want people willing to body block for the same reason. Usually someone taunting is pretty good at chases and I don't want to chase them a second time(and face camping is the only way I can taunt them back)
If you're a survivor and don't like it, too bad. I'm a killer.
I prefer people play aggressive though so I can feel good about doing the same.
-
Who cares about the survivors feelings. Tunnel them hard and let them cry about it on the death hook.

Except the game itself punishes you for that and it is often considered "griefing" because you're not actually trying to complete your objectives but instead ruin others experiences.
My objective as a Killer is to kill. How is removing someone from the game in the fastest method possible not meeting that objective?
Its not griefing. The killers job is to kill. Not bake cookies or make survivors feel good about themselves.

What I think is interesting is that the Killers that tunnel are actually horrible at the game. They actually aren't able to play a level that Killers who don't tunnel are. Not tunneling is magnitudes harder than tunneling, as a strategy. So, if you are seeing a Killer who is tunneling, just know that Killer is boosted by a crutch strategy.
You can tell yourself whatever makes you rage less.
-
@MadLordJack said:
You're job is to kill everyone. Not one person, not three people, everyone. Tunneling only really helps in trials you could have won anyway, and camping is only useful in very sweaty trials.
Nope, its to kill whoever as I see fit based on what I want to do as the killer. You, as a survivor don't get a say.
-
I just 2 hooked a team and made sure not to get a 3rd because i was in a good mood.....they then waited at the gate for the timer and continued to teabag until i chased them out.
The rest of my day is tunneling and camping to balance this out.
-
Im a brand new player...started playing killer and survivors were nasty as hell while I tried to follow "the rules" of not camping, not tunneling, ect....
I am now full time camping and full time tunneling and laughing when the crying happens at the end of the game. If its cool that you go in and bully killers and new players, then wait out the clock at the exit while tea bagging, then it must be cool if I target and killed your team one by one while you trade off on the hook for me to up my BP.
Thank you survivors for making me feel better about not caring.

The best advice I can give you is for you to throw out the survivor rule book for killers. 99.9999999% of them don't consider your feelings when they take any action while they play, you should do the same. If you think you need to tunnel, camp or slug, do so. They're all sanctioned by the Devs and are a part of the normal game play. It is unrealistic for you to 3 hook every survivor for most matches, unless you're playing against potatoes or are playing a highly mobile killer like Spirit, Nurse, or Blight, and even then, against a competent swf, really good killers will still sweat.
Turn off the chat box and ignore their salt, or do like me and relish in it.
I appreciate the advice, but the devs dont seem to care about their matchmaking system. Its broken and not fun for a new player to have to deal with high skill, rank 1 players.
20 games today and every one was chock full of players so far above my skill level, I would have earned the same points standing still and spamming.
Not enjoyable. Im done.
-
Its not just the people who are frustrated. The people who win the match also act extremely toxic.
-
This last game I just got called a ######### (N word) for being bad at killer when I was up against a rank 4.
Its bad enough I have to deal with extremely poor matchmaking and not getting any BP for games, but also subject to such disgusting mindsets.

They name call and rub the "win" in the killers face because they get their kicks from making others feel bad :( I'm sorry you've been dealing with crappy people in DBD. I promise that not all of us are that way though!
Every game ive had for the last 3 days has been with people who outrank me by at least 8. Dont think they ever last more than 10 minutes....and 3 of those minutes are being teabagged because they refuse to run out of the map to escape.
i just want to learn to play the game, but usually cant even find someone before all the gens are done.
-
Apparently im not supposed to follow the blood trails of survivors as its called "tunneling" and i cant bait someone on the hook because thats camping...even when there are no gens left.
But survivors can gang rush me with flashlights, body block, hit me with pallet after pallet and all that is fine.
Why the double standard? Killers are supposed to play in a very specific way but survivors can do anything they want?
-
Im having an impossible time learning the game with the current matchmaking system. Rank 16 killer and always up against a group of purple and red survivors bullying with flashlights and body blocking. Then the teabagging and them trying to get me to chase which I can never win due to sucking as a 6 day old player of the game.
Why do low rank survivors who all survive against a high rank killer feel the need to then name call, and rub their win in after chat?
