  • Cool. Well, was trying to avoid a spoiler I stumbled upon, but Halloween 2 introduces a plot twist that seemingly carries through the original series sans remakes, and that is that Laurie is Michael and Judith's younger sister, adopted after their parents died in a car crash, and establishing Michael's "obsession" seems to focus on his family/bloodline or maybe even just familial women. Since that plotline seems to be absent for Michael and Laurie in DBD, and the convenience of Michael going missing at the end of Halloween, I'm willing to bet The Entity is why he disappeared.

Right, if those names aren't introduced until after the 1st TCM movie, then The Cannibal is Leatherface from at least the movie that names them.

Everything else is pretty consistent and obvious.

  • I know this thread is dedicated to an actual chronological timeline, but could anyone who knows fill me in on presumed movie canon based on in-game appearance, quotes, etc? I haven't watched many of the sources for the licensed characters, or if I have, not in a very long time. I watched Halloween (1978) for the first time 2 nights ago.

For Laurie & The Shape, it would seem they are both exclusively from Halloween (1978) as all the quotes, cosmetics, etc are from that film, and there is no mention of Laurie being [TEMPORARY SPOILER TAG] and nothing references the time-skip to Halloween (2018).

I have never watched ANY of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, but from what I've heard around, his name being confirmed to be Bubba Sawyer at least eliminates some of the remakes from the equation, I just don't know what's what. Anyone know what movies are confirmed canon to The Cannibal who appears in Dead By Daylight?

I know for a fact Quentin and The Nightmare are exclusively from the most recent remake.

I've seen all the SAW films at some point, and fairly clear Detective Tapp and The Pig (Amanda) are taken from their last moments in the series.

The Demogorgon is confirmed to be from end of season 3.

The 4-year anniversary stream confirmed The Executioner is the same Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2, though I've never played a Silent Hill game, so I'm going to take that to mean Pyramid Head is a species of some sort, and that The Executioner is from Silent Hill 2 only?

  • Now I don't think it's what OP meant, but I have wondered why unique survivor (and killer) perks don't have a final rarity (like Ultra Rare for the Very Rare perks) that is unobtainable for anyone besides the survivor/killer it belongs to. So like level III Self-Care every survivor can obtain, but a Level IV Self-Care only Claudette can have.

  • Guys, seriously, if it were only 1 or 2 people willing to make a thread like this, then it really would be no big deal, go ahead, make your rude comments about how little they matter....

But if it's this many, to the point ppl are rolling their eyes because "oh look, another one", then that is something to take seriously. Even if this player or that player are just venting and do not intend to uninstall at that moment, if a large number of killer players take a break, let alone quit, we'll have a huge wait time issue on our hands, and eventually survivor players will start quitting, and if too many players on either side quit, the game becomes unplayable and it won't be able to recover. Think about it.

If quitter killers had begun before, over something smaller, I could understand pointing fingers at them, but as far as swords to fall on or hills to die on go, this is the first good one.

  • No joke, I think the community should select a number of skins to advertise their intentions in a game... For example, I could see a tradition of The Clown with the Santa Clause cosmetic on Christmas Eve being code for "come on, let's just mess around and get bloodpoints, merry christmas Survivors"

  • I completed the first Rift without buying tiers, but it was a close one, a chunk of the time I was living with my family and my mother made a habit of removing the router to prevent my brother from doing anything besides chores, by the time I moved I had a lot of catch up to do. I had to devote a lot of time to it, and had to basically force a few challenges (the "interrupt" challenge? Had to play as The Pig, down a survivor, put reverse beartrap, pick up, walk to Jigsaw box, let them wiggle out whilst attacking the box, interrupt them, let them wiggle out, continue the game as normal/friendly BP farming, start a new game, rinse & repeat -- and had to send a message and screenshot it to swiftly send to survivors for any assistance with sacrificing all four in basement in exchange for playing a BP farm game, in the end 1 survivor skipped the farming part and met me in the basement, I had to get the other 3 the hard way)

Also, I think this time as long as my connection is viable, I shouldn't have a hard time being diligent, also, I will wait to buy the Rift Pass until I'm nearing Tier 70.

  • Well keep in mind it wasn't JUST Claudette and The Trapper, it was also The Alchemist and a little about The Entity.

I run Inner Strength, Head On, Quick & Quiet, and Small Game with Nancy. I try to make an "all-in" build for every survivor, this one is "The Locker".

Though I'm debating if maybe Vigil is a better choice than Quick & Quiet 🤔

If I get Hawkins, I am happy, at this point I know where the stupidly strong loop rooms are. As for the perks; Inner Strength, Head On, Quick and Quiet are fun together. Steve doesn't really have that many useful perks for MY play style. Nancy though, Fixated is a good perk, especially for knowing where and how I can skew my scratch marks through Coldwind corn, and the gen one (don't know the name off the top of my head) is useful when other people are running it, I just never run it myself.

I like Surge for as underrated as it is. Combine it with new Ruin, Surveillance, and Thrilling Tremors and you have yourself the most solid detection of gens being worked on.

As for playing any of them, Demogorgon gets played when I do random killer and dailies. But I am a Meg main and will continue to be for some time now.

You mean that you stab yourself after a stressfull match?

I know this sounds cliche but its a game so there is no need to stress so badly about it. You could even play survivor or another game

    If I misunderstood my bad

That's a fair solution atm, but if enough killer players take that advice... Who's playing killer then?

  • I don't believe we'll ever get The Entity as a killer, but a cultist, that's pretty possible. Weird how they straight-up call the place Terra Dark, hence why I assumed it was a more subtle reference to a licensed killer.

Not sure if legit, but someone has leaked that David, Jane, Doctor and Spirit are the next ones. Seems like a smart idea to focus on more than 2 characters imo, though it seems odd they're already doing DLC characters, when they've got so many free characters left.

Well, you have to consider that The Tome had entries for The Trapper, Claudette, The Alchemist, The Entity, and Revelations, I assume The Tome will always have an equivalent to Revelations, but they can choose other characters to focus on besides The Entity and The Alchemist for Tome II.

    Jane is the Thicc-Kit

LOL What kind of perks do you need for THAT build? Lol

  • I sort of do 2 crouches sort of slowly one after the other (like a curtsy or a bow or something)

I two back-to-back double-shifts at work on Christmas and Christmas Eve (and just discovered Remote Play late last night) so wasn't able to implement this personally, but I've been considering that maybe a specific killer+cosmetic combo to be code for "I'm here for a friendly farming session", such as The Clown Santa cosmetic on or around Christmas, sort of the opposite of Nea and/or certain cosmetics being played with by people who want to be toxic intentionally.

    Any other ideas like this?

  • So Dead Hard for sure instead of Head On, if Dead Hard was universally working?

  • Any advice on how to accomplish the "unhook one survivor(s) after the Endgame Collapse has begun" challenge(s)?

The only shortcut I could think of was to somehow open the hatch with a key (by proxy) and trick the killer into closing it and hope someone other than me got hooked....

I don't care how it's done, I just need a way to get it done.

  • Personally I think the option to "leave game" should be disabled during certain situations, like how in certain TCG video games you can only surrender on your turn when before or after card activation/interactions, so in this case, I 100% agree with being unable to leave the game while being carried or on a hook (maybe even dying, so you can't leave right before getting Mori'd) and actually force disconnect when the game has you trapped b/c of bugs. Or I guess "leave game" could be changed to trigger the Endgame Sacrifice pre-endgame, so you actually are giving the killer a sacrifice in return for choosing to leave the game early.

  • Heck, for a while there I was concerned it would be a long while before we started to see original killers after The Ghost Face and The Demogorgon. But they delivered with The Oni (is original, albeit uses previously established lore--good and bad, but does hit an archetype they hadn't yet explored) I'm hoping they dig into more thematic design space soon (a watery map with a swim or dive mechanic, Jaws-style jump scare killer, a gothic horror killer--werewolf killer, I guess The Oni eats up design space for a vampire, a cosmic horror killer, a body horror killer, a doppelganger/lookalike killer, and plenty others I can't come up with off the top of my head--so I don't blame the devs for being unable to do the same.)

Some licensed killers (or concepts based on them) definitely sharpen their options and "restrictions breed creativity", so I'd like to see what they'd come up with to make some niche killers work. The Djinn from The Wishmaster comes to mind (or in general, a Djinn/Genie killer whose power somehow is a byproduct of "granting [the survivors'] wishes". (Okay, ya got me, that's almost impossible to imagine lol)

  • You're not completely wrong, every game has limited space to work with to create new options and interactions (called "design space")

I know this thread isn't for "homebrewing" fan-made killers and such, but I can still see a good big chunk of design space after the usual suspects are taken care of. Not to mention the killers should be flavorful and hit certain genres or atmospheres for the overall horror genre. As they said in the AMA, if the game needs it, they can and will change and expand the base game.

One day we may get more gestures (besides "point that way" and "come here") one day we may get survivors who can carry other survivors, or maybe even a survivor with a power instead of an item slot, maybe they'll bring back moonlight for a werewolf, might fully embrace what The Legion teased (a doppelganger killer who can properly blend in with survivors) one day maybe a killer who can "equip items" to change his/her powers to mimic the other killers' powers. Maybe The Hillbilly gets a whole rework to not use a chainsaw (The Cannibal is kind of iconic with his chainsaw) maybe The Alchemist joins in with a serum-harvesting power and/or is the first character to be playable as a survivor and as a killer. The Observer probably isn't likely to be playable, but he could be a survivor (or killer? O.o) who could play differently depending on what survivors he plays with or what killer he's up against. Someone in this thread mentioned a killer "mastermind" who can maybe manipulate the map to create different obstacles (or perhaps move the locations of totems/gens/pallets) The possibilities aren't endless, but there's a lot still there.

  • I'm just saying 3 unique perks (like each new survivor comes with) but they deal with specific killer powers (or other in-game elements that are only present/in effect against a certain killer) in minor ways (as minor as possible anyway). I wouldn't want them to neuter any killers, they just help that survivor in a game with that killer.

Behavior would never give us a survivor with 17 different perks, but, for example, one such perk could be "decrease the rate of infection from Vile Purge by x/y/z% and other survivors do not pass on their infection to you", but since survivors are expected to come with only 3 perks, something more general for a survivor so one perk mentions things about a handful of killers, another perk does another handful, and another.

  • I'm not 100% against it. But no, don't actually choose one or put them all in, since they ARE animatronic suits, make their identity work like The Legion; make each part of each costume a customization, so "The Animatronic" or "The Mascot" can be Freddy, Cheeka, Bonnie, etc, or combinations thereof. I would not complain if they put them in as a single killer.

I have a feeling it's probably related to license holders

Your examples for Halloween and Saw aren't original names by DBD. Those are the nick-names/names the characters have been given in their respective franchises before. Likely the owners of Ghostface probably wanted "The Ghost-Face" to be his name because that's the name of the character

Same with Netflix and Demo besides the ST characters would have fully explained the monster to the characters in-universe so it makes sense the Demo's real name would be recognized

Actually, in the case of The Ghost Face, Behavior didn't get the rights to use the killer(s) from the Scream series, but did get the rights to the mask associated with the killer (since the mask predated the films) so actually, I think the name is a subtle attempt to *avoid* licensing issues. The killer is known as The Ghost Face, when I'm confident there could be trouble if they'd gone with The Ghostface™ for example lol

However, I generally agree that The Demogorgon could be known as such due to licensing; perhaps Netflix did want to encourage the use of the name. Good marketing and all, but you should also keep in mind: Design space. I think, for example, because The Doctor is a unique killer in the game already, besides the exception of maybe another killer who was once a doctor in their pre-killer days, we won't see another doctor-themed killer, both because that shtick has been taken by The Doctor, AND the name The Doctor has been taken.

If The Demogorgon was called The Monster or The Creature or The Alien, that would use up the names for use in other original killers, or even other licensed killers that should be known more generically. Whoops, we named The Demogorgon "The Alien", guess we can't make our own extraterrestrial alien killer. Simple as that, really, but Netflix probably preferred "The Demogorgon" after all.

  • It doesn't exactly do anything about this exact scenario, but if the datamined killer and survivor status conditions are legit, at least survivors will soon be able to know they're affected by a hex as early as possible, in the near future.
