  • Everything. Even When I got the game free on Ps+ I want my time refunded

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this all out. I am going to specifically respond to the community portion.

I am a survivor main, so forgive my inherent bias, as I stopped playing killer about two years ago (and before then it was only to do rituals and tomes. Now I don't even bother lol). I actually turned off my entire messaging on my platform because of this Dead by Daylight specifically lmao. Simply couldn't take that wince-like feeling of getting a message notification after a bad match ughhhh (mostly from survivor teammates who probably got mad at me for WHATEVER reason). I went through years worth of messages and the vast majority of them were randoms who messaged me very hateful things for various reasons. I used to also be a top ranking Injustice 2 (remained at #2 on the NA leaderboards for many months back in 17/18, shoutout to my Dr. Fate woopwoop!) and Mortal Kombat (#1 for a couple days on MK11). People in those games were just as abusive if not far worse, actually, but I "retired" from those games about two years ago. Awful people will be prevalent everywhere, sadly, and despite DBD's community having a sour reputation, I have personally experienced more venomous hate from Neatherrealm gamers.

What I DO appreciate about this community is once you are able to dismiss and ignore (like I have tried to do) the gross people, Dead By Daylight genuinely has some of the most wholesome, kind, creative, and friendly people. Even some of my friends in real life and I have been able to bond and geek over how much we absolutely love this game despite its blatant issues. The lore, characters, etc... When we want to share in our joy of playing, the good people way outshine the nasty. I'm not immune to feeling awful after interacting with nasty people, which is why I had to adapt by turning messages off. I recognize that's a bandaid fix and shouldn't have to happen in the first place, but it has worked for me! MY biggest issue with the community has been when (mostly in the past) some of the developers (not even close to all!!! I enjoy hearing from many of them!) at BHVR have publicly said very rude/snooty things with a pompous heir to the community, which stirs up an already on-edge group over a game that is not very polished, as you said. THAT's my problem. Fortunately, it hasn't been as bad as it was in the 2020-2021 period, but I'm hoping they get coached better when directly addressing their PAYING player base :) I couldn't begin to imagine the pressure and frustration in their position, because I haven't lived it, but... maybe put a smile on and speak to us like you want to, and not like you HAVE to because your boss said, or like you are bothered to have to explain misleading data. Again, it's been awhile since I've felt that way, but it still happened and it still had/has an impact. Many of the employees at BHVR are a pleasure to see, and when they are actively indicating they are listening with a friendly, open mind, that's all I could ask for, personally! :)

Spoke well. Definitely one thing I will give this community is that it’s passionate; both killer and survivor. Unfortunately for me the negatives outweigh the positives. It’s pretty difficult to ignore the negatives of the community on a daily basis

  • They really should show who is in a Swf before the match starts so that killers can prepare in game and mentally. But there should be an incentive otherwise Swfs would never get games and killers dodging often. I’d say there should be increased blood point gain from double to quadruple bloodpoints. That alone would make going up against 4 man Swfs more worth it for 4x bloodpoints especially if paired with bbq and blood point offerings.

  • It amazes me how the devs take the time to rework weak killers yet don’t even bother to address the things they suck the most at.

Clown- gave him yellow bottles that do barely anything and suck at consistent mobility.

Freddy- was good for the time until the nerfs and other changes made him the most boring killer in the game and much weaker.

DeathSlinger- still no map pressure or mobility.

Legion- most maps and survivors holding forward still hard counter legions power along with still no meaningful anti loop. Getting the 5th hit seems like a rare site without addons and incompetent survivors.

Ghostface- main weakness is still no anti loop and no mobility or map pressure. Heck it was leaning more as a nerf than a buff because of the easier reveal for survivors. Exposed survivors not being able to reveal GF is really not that big it basically puts it on the same platform as wraiths nerfed lunge for anti loop. The 60 seconds of exposed while a nice QOL change but if it takes 60 seconds to down a survivor the killer is a practically giving up a gen or two.

All of them are add on reliant which is a bad thing; sometimes I wonder if the devs even try. Like I would’ve given Ghostface the ability to enter lockers and teleport to another locker for mobility. He can exit it quietly to stay in nightshroud or ambush out of it similar to pigs ambush downing survivors if he hits them.

  • It would be a miracle if there was a patch where it didn’t break sound

  • Overall this was disappointing; his base kit is practically unintentionally nerfed no thanks to reveal being easier for survivors. The real focus was on the add ons which at least are good but now he was and is still add on reliant, which is a bad thing. I expected more out of the rework for Ghostface.

I would’ve given him the ability to enter lockers and teleport to another one as mobility. He can exit them quietly to stay in his nightshroud or ambush out of them similar to pigs ambush, instantly downing a survivor if Ghostface hits them.

  • I’d give him the ability to put survivors into a deep sleep. Basically old Freddy which like it actions like healing and repairing gens are slower and the world around them is darker. Survivors in deep sleep also enhances Freddy’s other elements to his power; but only effects survivors in deep sleep. Like snares will act like bear traps with padded jaws but a little faster to escape, dream pallets could cause hindered or broken effects, teleporting is basically class photo base kit. And hell maybe even add that survivors in deep sleep can’t escape through exit gates (could maybe go without it). Freddy can pull them in deep sleep manually which would take 5 seconds maybe even 10 to equate for the buff elements of his power; if Freddy hits the survivor while in the process of getting into deep sleep it will cancel and they will stay in regular dream world. Survivors can also passively fall into deep sleep which goes from awake - dream - deep sleep; this adds a little extra 4v1 for him. Only way for them to wake up is getting the clocks or failing skill checks on gens or getting hooked.

Thats my rough idea. Might be powerful maybe even op could take out some things like maybe can’t have both passive deep sleep and manual deep sleep, but after all that’s just my rough idea.

  • I’d say no mostly because it gave him free zoning just by existing.

Thing is though devs really needed to give him a lot more to compensate than move faster while ADS. Something like one of the reload add ons base kit or giving him stealth would’ve gone a long way to make him somewhat good.

  • I wouldn’t say it’s pay to win some of the best stuff is free like chili man said.

But it is pay to progress faster. Want bbq and chili? Well gotta pay 5 dollars to get it. Or what about the shrine of secrets? Well tuff luck it’s a 2 out of a mountain of perks chance for it to appear there. Even with free survivors/killers we gotta play like over 120 games to unlock a character and get them to level 30+. I’ve been calling out BHVRs crappy aggressive economy in Dbd for a while. Literally the game should be F2P.

  • I hope it’s FNaF, it would make me tolerate Dbd if the anniversary is above average. But even if it is FNaF or not; if the anniversary flops then I’m done with Dbd

  • I’ve been saying this for a while. It’s like their literally putting make up on a sick person to make them look lively instead of treating the person. Like the holes in the games foundation are starting to crack. If BHVR does nothing it will tumble down and hard crash the game for everyone. I wouldn’t even be sad; I’d laugh because they have all the time in the world but chose overpriced skins and pile on the same old new content in their spaghetti code carnival.

  • For me it’s a lot of things. Like the game is getting stale and frustrating to the point of why even bother anymore.

    1. Monetization- the game is 20/30$ upfront, with overpriced cosmetics, 8 dollar dlc every three months, and a 10 dollar rift pass. All stacked on top with an extremely grindy system that’s taking the devs a snails pace to address. At this point the game should cut down on the monetization or make the game F2P (if they got the hacker situation under control by then).
    2. Balance- Playing killer is a horrible experience especially with MMR and solo survivor is just as horrible with having little to no information or communication. Survivor second chance perks like DS, Dead hard, Unbreakable, Borrowed Time and the boon COH are still the Meta as it was years ago and make the pressure Killer caused practically useless. Unfun and underpowered killers like trickster, clown, and Legion. Nerfs to killers for no reason and out of the blue like they did to Wraith and Twins meanwhile they announce the survivor nerf to a predetermined date. Lots of maps need to be reworked, The Game, Haddenfield, badham, Mothers dwelling, RPD, Swamp maps, And the most recent map. All those maps have like tons of really safe loops, size issues like Mothers and RPD, or are just awful to play on both sides.
    3. QOL- I want to see the grind addressed I have a feeling it’s in the back of the line for BHVR looking at it the recent QnA that they didn’t want to removed perk tiers (they should). Probably too ambitious but I want to see the games foundation rebuilt from the ground up like final fantasy 13 (probably not 13 I don’t remember, the mmo one basically) did. Like the games engines age is starting to show with some old bugs being introduced. Like I have a feeling that eventually it will collapse.
    4. MMR gone- MMR sucks everyone hates it. It’s the same sweaty games for both sides over and over and over; it’s promoting competitive over casual play, sweat over fun. They need to either rework MMR with a completely different win condition for both sides, or go back to the emblem system.

I’m losing hope in this game, for every step forward it takes two steps back. Ringu is looking to be another disappointment; so the anniversary is the last chance I’m giving this game even if it’s a license I wanted like Fnaf or Dead Space.

TL:DR Cut down on the Monetization, balance improved, more QOL, and get rid of MMR

  • In my opinion it’s slowly dying. The game is in Purgatory right now where it’s just the same cycle over and over and over. Never improves, it just gets worse while the player base rises once a new chapter releases then dips back down to where it was or even lower because the game hasn’t improved much at all. It’s been in purgatory for a long time. It’s on its death bed constantly getting defibed every 3 months

  • I pretty much lost count. I am especially having a long one after the recent QnA that showed how disconnected the devs are. Ringu chapter is looking to be a disappointment so far; the anniversary is the last chance I’m giving this game. So I might take a permanent vacation if it’s a flop even if it’s a license I wanted like FNaF or Dead Space.

  • For me no, for 3 reasons

    1. They revealed it far too early
    2. It’s ringu and not the ring. No hate towards ringu; it’s just that I grew up with the ring, it was one of the first horror films I watched as a kid along with Scream
    3. There hasn’t been a good chapter since Blight. Like it’s been a huge snowball of bad chapters since Binding of Kin. Portrait of a murder was nothing to really write home about it was just meh maybe even below average
  • Exactly, Optimization should also be focused for all platforms to ensure that the game runs as best as it can and that the user has much more options for a better experience. Like an Fov slider instead of it being tied to a perk or the option to turn auto aim on or off.

I’ve barely even seen any players play the new killer even on console she’s even rarer than nurse. They need to focus on the health to bring new players and old players back.

  • Anything’s possible, like when we got the teases for 4th anniversary everyone thought it was going to be Candy man but turns out we got pyramid head.

The new killer is definitely looking to be a Wendigo, so like I said anything’s possible. Always expect the unexpected

  • Yeah, at this point the forums are a place to vent than to actually discuss the real issues. cough montization cough keys and moris cough balance, etc.

I mean even if they don't play it its for anyone who was working on the game in 2017. Kinda meaningful and not something to give away.

I mean yeah, but since it’s already kinda out there they could keep the current one since it’s already a bit of a reskin. And add a unique one just for the devs with a unique particle effect like an unusual hat from team fortress 2.

  • @NocturnalPie said:

I really think people should stop referencing it as an event. An event implies something different is happening than usual, yet there's no difference to gameplay at all.

    Yeah definitely

  • Chris Walker and Dr. Trager from Outlast. The next licensed chapter should be from a horror game. Outlast is the perfect game with lots of enemies to choose from as Killer like Chris Walker and Dr. Trager with Miles as a survivor. The asylum is a great setting as a indoor map with its maze like layout.

  • @Swiftblade131 said:

Maybe you just need a break from killer?

Try out survivor, I hear Doctor is very fun to play against now.

Or try out some CIV, that's a pretty fun game.

Mat, the lead dev said the same thing back in the day on a stream and look where that ended.

    No offense btw

  • Honestly devs you should do it like Team Fortress 2 with its contracts in the pyro update. Like when you start a contract with a weapon that you don’t have, the game will lend you the weapon to complete the challenge. So my idea for DBD is when you start a challenge like survive the trial as Jane Romero for example; the game will let you use Jane with her 3 unique perks at tier 1 and only her 3 perks. No other perks or items can be used unless it’s a part of the challenge. Once the challenge is complete you cannot use Jane anymore unless there is another challenge for her. The same can apply for the killer side of challenges, like if you don’t have Spirit, the game will let you use spirit with only her 3 unique perks at tier 1; no add-ons or other perks unless the challenge involves a specific perk for that killer with only the tier 1 variant. This will allow players to earn those fragments to make the most of the free or premium track of the rift before it closes and for lore without being locked behind a pay wall but if they want to level up use other perks and add-ons they would have to buy them.

Thats my idea anyway I think it’s beneficial for both players and devs. Players will not be stuck behind a pay wall to get fragments or lore but will not be able to use the character fully. It’s like splinters in offerings but a little bit different. And it’s better just in case players don’t have any shards at all to purchase the perk or character before the rift ends, face it not everyone has time to play this game everyday so they wouldn’t be loaded with thousands of shards.

  • I get the exact opposite. I always get Red rank sweaty SWF. I’m in purple ranks. As survivor I always get green and purple ranked killers while I’m in red ranks.

    So yeah matchmaking is broken

  • Man everyone here is acting like an a** and just hit me up with the usual “git gud”. I am aware that not all matches can be won, yes I know that but all I want is a decently timed match, so I can make the most of it. You say that I have to apply pressure but that varies on so many levels; going against competent survivors, they can always find a work around. If I see two survivors on a gen of course I’m going to go for them so that it shaves some time off. Another is the maps themselves, small maps are a easier time, medium maps are well balanced, and large maps end up being the real issue. Survivors completing 1 or 2 gens at the start of the game already leaves you to make as little mistakes as possible to it least pip once or safety pip. Make one simple mistake and it could cost the killer the whole game; I seen it happen time and time again and doing the math. But whatever I guess, never seen a more toxic community than left 4 dead.

So, let me start by saying that I'm excited for the new Rift and Archives - but... and this is a BIG but... I'm seeing that there are many of the challenges in the archives and items in the rift that are tied to DLC characters. So, not only do I have to spend the $8+ on the Rift pass, but now I have to buy specific characters so that I'm able to complete these challenges? This doesn't seem right to me. I get that they want to put a specific focus on characters, but what about those that can't afford to purchase those characters needed at will?

It seems like a poor choice to lock completion of challenges behind a paywall. I see this deterring newer players from purchasing the Rift or feeling like they can be a part of the community completing the challenges in the Archives. Even "veteran" players, like myself, that haven't made the choice to purchase some of these specific characters are at a loss.

On another note, I'm also a multi-platform player (Xbox + PC) and I have different characters purchased or earned on each. While I had no issue buying the Rift pass on both platforms last time, I had decided to only focus on one platform for my Rift pass this time around due to funds, and I kind of feel cheated.

How far away could we possibly be from a cross-progression system? How hard would it be for them to implement a cross-progression system? I think it would only help to grow the community. I'm not even talking cross-play, I would just like to be able to know that my progress made on one platform could carry over to another.

Just some thoughts. Much love. Discuss.

If you are serious about that title, I'd strongly advise you to take a break from the game for the sake of your mental health and maybe consider speaking to a psychologist or someone you can trust.

If you're not serious, I suggest you edit it so that you're not in violation of the "don't make light of serious issues" forum rule.

    As you wish

The day you'll stop relying on your teammates is the day you'll get better at the game.

Survivor is not meant to 1v1 a Killer. The whole point of playing survivor and pest in asymmetrical games is to work together with your team. Try to 1v1 a Killer without other survivors and hatch in a game and see if you actually win. 9 out of 10 times you will die without other survivors

a mix between hitboxes and latency.

    i'll make it short:

the survivor hitbox is a pill in the middle of your body, standing straight up.

the survivor while running bends forward, the hitbox is unchanged.

the hatchet has a ball like hitbox (to be able to hit a survivor who is bent forwards by their animation, since their hitbox hasnt moved).

this also counts for the back of your playmodel. while you can be hit just as good as from the front (which looks fine due to the playmodel being bend forward), your playmodel additionally makes it look bad, by being bend forward, therefore away from the hatchet.

also, your latency seemed to be off a bit (due to you lagging back after the hit, just as @TheRoyalOwl has already mentioned), so on the killers screen and for the server you apparently werent around that corner already.

Once dedicated severs are fully ironed out and ready, the issue will mostly be resolved. I was about to say that lol. Apologies I accidentally posted the comment twice

I know about the hit box.

I was already aware that it was a connection issue. Things like this do happen in most other multiplayer games but it seems to be more prominent in this game. I had a game with a Trapper once on rotten fields. Had a smooth green connection of 90 or 70. Seemed normal at first then all of a sudden I’ve been hit with horrible lag and suddenly gets smooth and Trapper appears and surprised everyone, it affected other survivors as well with them running into walls hook save delays and walking while Trapper was next to them getting hit from surprising distances. We all died. Pretty sure it was a lag switcher or he had horrible connection.

    just a nick pick

  • Basically yes. I usually don’t play if I have bad connection. Typically in the green and just above 120 no further than 145. Issues like this when a there’s a host and the server is just fine for them but for others apparently I was standing at the pallet were the hatchet was for the server but on my screen I wasn’t even near it. I heard that it’s worse on dedicated servers atm. But this happening even when I have good connection to the host is really frustrating.

Very few people do use it, because very few people even use maps. It's called the glass bead, I believe, and it's quite rare to come across in games despite being only uncommon rarity on the bloodweb.

I just went ahead and checked it out myself. It’s understandable why barley anyone uses it, not too useful on indoor maps and I’m not sure if the killer can see it but it would explain how the killer kept on finding us that easily costing two survivors.

    Thanks for the clarification

That or there is Aliens lol

  • Literally a add on?

through out the entire time I played and followed DBD this is literally the first time I have ever seen anyone use this at all. Even all the vids I watched I haven’t seen anyone used it. Wow didn’t see that coming at all

  • Legion (Frank) does bare a striking resemblance to Jeff the Killer the more I compare how they both look side by side. The sinister creepy smiles, the eyes how they look lidless giving the feel that they are staring into your soul, the jacket despite being leather, it still looks similar to Jeff’s hoodie. I guess the devs did use Jeff as inspiration for Legion.

As for the actual discussion at hand, Slender Man. As much as I would like to see Slendy In the game and seems like a good fit, but as someone else stated, Slender man does not kill, he takes people and infects their minds. He can’t spread his influence if his victims are dead, nor would I see Slender man serve The Entity, seeing as Slender Man is perhaps a god itself of another world

  • Agreed, luckily I got got Trappers challenge done after 7 or 8 games 3 of which haven’t trapped anyone the rest below 4. Would get pretty bland and tedious if the third tome was trap 8 survivors in a single trial, which as Trapper can be a very hard task to do.
