I had this issue over the summer on ps4. Made bug report here, Mandy told me to contact support. Support told me to uninstall/reinstall the game and that fixed it for me.
This problem initially began for me on the Xbox One X. It now continues across three attempts to uninstall and reinstall on my Xbox Series X. Sigh.
-
New update, no new fix. Huzzah.
-
I'm still having this issue as well. What I've noticed is that even though the problem persists, when I load back in the game does properly show where I'm at for ranked. So it appears my server details are still getting updated even if my Grade Progress Error prevents me from being able to actually see that progress.
What an irritant.
-
Yeah, it's been a thing for me since I started playing this game. It's just been happening a lot more lately than it used to. It was something I would have to deal with every time I played but usually after one or maybe two restarts I'd be good for a bit. This time, I've had episodes where even after 5 matches and 5 restarts, the error remains. Ugh.

If you need to tunnel off hook to win, you aren't a good killer. You can say all you want that you don't owe the survivors anything and it's easier to just tunnel off hook or proxy camp or whatever, but it's also easier to do something like bloodlust pallets instead of learning to loop, or running NOED and Remember Me so you have a second chance when 5 gens inevitably get completed so you don't feel like you need to learn how to apply pressure to gens.
Besides, hooking survivors 3 times each and chasing people while they're healthy and switching targets to keep multiple people injured will actually help you pressure the match, get more bloodpoints, and get a higher rank if you're the sort of person to care about rank for anything other than achievements.
Really, tunneling off hook isn't even a very good strategy anyways most of the time. Think about it this way: Unless you happen to be in the area when someone gets unhooked (you shouldn't be lingering there for very long unless you have a 3-gen or two people hooked right next to each other or BBQ doesn't go off or something), you have significantly better things to do than go across map to hit someone just because they're already injured and they're closer to dying. Yeah, sure, you get to kill one person easier, but you need to look at the bigger picture.
If two people know the killer isn't near them after an unhook, those two are probably gonna heal, burning 16 seconds unless they have a medkit or We'll Make It or something, plus however much time it takes for them to run over to the nearest gen. If you're running across the map to go hit someone off hook, you're wasting time you could've spent keeping people off gens. If you're camping near hook, the three other survivors in the match can just all pick different gens and pop three before going for the save.
Your ultimate game plan as killer shouldn't be to focus on the individual kills, but rather how much you can divert survivors' attention from gens to anything else. If someone's on hook, that's one person who isn't doing gens plus one other person who has to go save them and then probably heal. If you're chasing someone during this time, that's three survivors who aren't doing anything, most likely 4 if they aren't queued together. People getting rescues and healing is fine because it wastes their time, which is the best thing you can do as killer.
Divide people's attention. Hook people away from generators and/or exit gates. Make good perk loadouts. Fully utilize the potential of your killer's power. Learn how to mindgame loops, and which pallets are and aren't safe. The way you win as killer is with good gamesense and fundamentals, not cheap tricks that are rewarding in the short-term.
This right here.
There are games (I'm Rank 2 Killer btw) where I absolutely steam roll a team because I was able to find survivors quickly at the start, distributed a few hits so multiple survivors are injured, and chased them off of gens. It turns out, if you don't just mindlessly pursue survivors into jungle gyms or hardcore loops, you can apply pressure across the map and win the game. :)

Um, define "bullying", and if you have video examples I'd like to see, because a lot of people call SWF squads "bully squads" and all they're doing is something so benign like coordinating head on plays. Or they're just playing better than the killers and get called a bully squad despite the fact that all they're doing is being better at the game. And of all the big streamers I've watched Ive never seen them go out of their way to flame the killer in postgame chat etc. Even all the survivor mains.
This right here. I feel what some people think is bullying others think is just gameplay. I want to know what you mean by "bullying", original poster.
-
This doesn't have to be a "one extreme against the other" debate. Most of us Killer Mains don't actually have to camp or hard tunnel to win. Aiming to proximity camp a hook so you can go for the immediate down and rehook isn't fun for the survivor and its not actually a good winning strategy as the killer.
BUT
The way the game is balanced right now (shoutout to the survivor player who put a video of what a toolbox does to my poor, helpless generators) many games end up with a 'soft' tunnel in them. I find myself (and often see other Red Rank killers) going for an injured survivor when coming across several on a generator or choosing to chase someone you know is on death hook over someone who is on second hook. I don't view this behavior as tunneling, but I got called out two days ago in a message saying "Dwight was on first hook, you shouldn't have death hooked me! TUNNELER". I don't think its tunneling when I find you heading to or on the same generator three times. That's your fault. You have to know we killers are aware of the gens you are trying to do and will rotate to protect those. I'm not going to count hooks and leave you on the generator to go find Dwight across the map so you guys can both have two hooks each.
Additionally, after hooking someone, if the survivor I JUST hooked was saved quickly AND I'm not able to immediately apply pressure where I'm currently heading, you bet I'll spin around and go to that unhooking. This ALWAYS gets me called out for tunneling but its simple strategy. I know that for sure, I can apply pressure on two people, since the unhooking just told me where two survivors definitely are. Now, my aim because again, strategy, is to hit and chase the person who unhooked my previous victim. I have no interest in hitting the unhooked person who'll have Borrowed Time and Decisive Strike. Instead, I'll let that first survivor go off and try to heal somewhere while I chase down their savior, get them hooked, and then look for another opportunity.
75% of the time, however, the person with BT REALLY wants to use it and ends up forcing me to hit them because they'll be body blocking for their savior. That changes my plan a little, as now I have to look at where they are going to decide whom to chase. If the savior is still healthy and heading for say, Killer Shack or other strong loop, and if I know I'll have a quicker chase on the recently unhooked body blocker, then yeah, I'm going to tunnel a little there based on length of chase (a scored Killer metric).
I think some of the arguments in here are being made with false assumptions. Let me help:
- If you save a survivor right in the face of a killer or while he's steps away, perhaps kicking the gen he found someone on or moving away to pressure elsewhere, then when that killer returns to the hook, its not tunneling.
- If you've recently been unhooked and you go straight back to the gen you were found on without healing and the killer finds you there, the killer is not tunneling.
- If your teammates are being sneaky and immersed and you are running around leaving scratch marks all over the place, then the killer isn't tunneling you, he's just FINDING you.
For my fellow killers out there, yes you are tunneling if:
- You remain in the proximity of a hook instead of trying to apply pressure across the map. As mentioned above, if you get a notification bubble blowing up from a hook you just did as you are walking away, feel free to return. But if you are just kind floating around nearby, staying close, waiting for a savior to appear to save your victim then you are camping and setting up to tunnel. This is poor play, IMO.
- You ignore other survivors or avoid hitting them so that you can chase the same person over and over. Yes. This is tunneling guys. I know what you're thinking: "Let me get this one out of the game so its 1 v 3". Honestly, those three are gonna catch on quick and they'll just sit on gens and you will get an Entity Displeased because you didn't have enough chases, gen pressures, and hooks.
TL:DR - Tunneling is a very specific toxic trait of some killer players who haven't learned how to map pressure. Stop assuming that your bad play means all killers are tunneling.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk
-
I forgot to mention, I only managed three total hooks as the group was obviously communicating and chose to head for that loop or one of the construction crane's every chase. EVERY chase. I had to score amazing hatchets in order to get the few downs I managed.

I should start incorporating franklins somehow.
I found a way to squeeze it into Freddy's build but not too many others yet. It's not like, AAHMAZING, but it certainly does work as a fun meme right now.

I have an addition to your list: Ranked Pips!
Doing research on the Plague for some videos, I played exactly 25 matches with her and only gained a pip twice, and never two pips. Even when scoring over 30,000 points, I'd often just get the safety pip. One match where I got three of them, the last took Hatch, and I got Gold on hooks, I still lost a pip. Something has to be done to balance out her scoring in regards to ranked. You lose so many points for them cleansing all their ailments so easily, fewer hits (IE, they get broken from Vile Purge so you only get a few hits in for your chases), and the shortened match time from lack of healing means they do gens sooo fast you never get above silver in generator defense.
Fix plz? (I made a thread in suggestions btw!)
-
I honestly did not expect there to be vehemence so early in this thread! Haha, nice.
Several killer players here have stated they feel Franklin's is a wasted perk slot. That's more or less what I was expecting but was curious to see if others were actually getting value from it. I did it just for fun and to counter a specific thing initially but lately its felt pretty useful, and fun. Just now, this morning, I hit a Feng who was headed over to sabotage a hook and she dropped her toolbox. Are there other options for countering sabo plays? 100%, yes. Was it fun seeing that tool box disappear? Yes. I'm still on the fence.
So I totally get why NOED is hated (I don't like perks that remove the need to really chase) but some of you are acting like Franklin's is even worse. The only thing it REALLY counters are the key carriers who hope to exit a match more easily, flash light users in chases (there are other counters to, but Franklin's works here too), Map users who are providing extra information to the team, and the odd sabotage play here and there. Actually, this all started for me because I was having trouble actually using Remember Me on Freddy. I was trying to get footage of the perk in action but in 3 out of 5 matches, the team had a key and left via the hatch. Ever since I put it on, its kinda been hard to take off.
-
There is a fine line for "What's fun for me is totally okay for me to do in game." I get it, if teabagging at pallets and slapping folks on hooks is fun for you, that's one thing. That doesn't make the game toxic, imo. I usually just nod a little and resume the chase.
Toxic is face camping at a hook, watching one die while three escape. You basically just ruined the fun for everyone. This is a CHASE game and you are refusing to participate (not you, specifically, OP, IDK if face camping is on your list of acceptable toxicity or not). I'm a Killer Main, myself, so it is really frustrating when I do choose to play Survivor to have so many matches just be a waste of time. Its actually not fun to just sit there and do generators while someone slowly dies on hook. Its even less fun to be on the hook, looking at Ghostface tea bag you while he face camps. The player doing this might think he's being a decent troll but in the end, we all know its because they are just not good at chasing.

Theres a difference though between someone who streams with a viewer count of like 2 and someone who actually does it regularly enough to have a decently high viewer count of afew hundred at least. The 2nd is what people are asking about.
Its kinda like the difference between being on television because of professional grade acting...versus being on television because you pressed play on a family video to the beach.
I understand what the thread is about, kind sir. My statements are what they are.
-
A LOT of people stream this game, so to name them all would be impossible. My favorite game against a good streamer was against ThreatDesigns. He plays a fun Trapper and he let us all go after we all got hooked twice.
A side note, I finally decided to add TTV to my name, BUT I took it down almost immediately. As a Killer its fine but as a survivor, it basically means an instant mori.

I agree! As far as fear of losing the game goes, Billy terrifies me. In higher ranked play, a Billy means even if I do really really well, I'll still take the L a lot.
For creep factor, The Clown. OMG, him popping around a corner sometimes makes me pee a little.
-
As a Killer Main, I can tell you that many survivors are REALLY proficient at eluding The Spirit in chases. For newer players, she does seem fairly impossible, however she has weaknesses that can be exploited and mindgamed around, as with all killers. As she cannot see you while in her "Haunting" ability, you can use things such as scratchmarks or your own blood trail to get her leaning one way, while you double back and head off somewhere else. It takes practice, same with avoiding Billy's saw or Demo's shred. :)
-
Any chance of a response? Thank you in advance.
-
I see zero issue with preventing an unhooking if you see it coming, despite the vitriol that fills my inbox when I do so. If you run toward a hook in plain view and expect me not to chase, then please don't blame me for getting downed yourself.

I'm red rank survivor and more or less it never happens that killers facecamp or even camp. Tunneling sometimes but not often. But who cares they can play how they want?
As killer I'm rank 5 trying to avoid red ranks since it is stressful. I play normal but sometimes like after Ruin nerf I was protesting it by facecamping a lot. And why not I play how I want it's my one man team. But normally I just pressure gens but if someone is tbagging me then tunneling or facecamping happens. And I write down names of people who send me evil messages, they go straight on my facecamping list so if I see them again I will only hunt them down to facecamp.
I hear you there. Here on xbox those red ranks are unavoidable. After making rank 8, almost all my matches are against 5-1's. I am now rank 7 and just had a match against 2 rank 1's, a rank 3, and a rank 5. I got 4k with Billy but only because they weren't respecting me or my chosen killer(healing out in the open, trying to interfere with a hooking, etc). Otherwise they could have easily gotten away. I am not that good yet with him.
@Deathslinger said:
Just a friendly reminder that your timing also sucks. Whenever more blood points are to be had, suddenly the survivor mains feel like playing killer again but they lack the experience. They complain a lot about the killer tactics looked down on but then use them themselves. Lotta killers right now that can not play by the survivor rule book. People can say what they want but in practice, I experienced killers can not help but try to secure the kill, the best way they can, which happens to be tunneling and face camping.
Good point here too. I am a pretty trash survivor player and only switched sides because of the additional blood points available. In fact, I am so trash at survivor, earleir tonight I dropped a pallet in front of a guy I just unhooked, getting him caught by the killer. Whoopsie.
-
I am having tons of fun! Thanks. :)
Honestly, I didn't intend this to be a complaint about face-campers as much as an attempt to understand. From my perspective, the strategy was nixed from my playbook quickly when I found it kept me from getting bloodpoints and rank pips. I guess I sort of expected other killers to be in the same boat.
No, the only toxicity that ruined matches for me were the handful of rank 18-20 Ghost Faces I came across who just walk around T-Bagging and not doing much of anything else. What a waste.

Nah fam. Tunneling is simple. If someone gets off hooked and you jet right back to the hook to down them, you tunneled. If you camped, you camped. You can camp, and then tunnel...if ur bad at camping. But a tunnel is what it is.
Where in my reply did I indicate I am rehooking someone quickly after jetting back over there? I use Mangled on many of my killers, so its quite common for me to see them still injured even after I've been over on the other side of the map tapping a genny.

@ohheyitsbobcat said:
It's just what you see in lower ranks. A lot of killers when they start out don't really have any alternative besides hardcore camping and tunneling otherwise they'll lose. Some just don't know any better as they're just starting.
As someone who plays both sides in red, I rarely ever see a red rank facecamper. Like, they pretty much don't exist unless you did something to piss them off or you've been on the hook a while so they're going to guarantee your stage 2 or even death. Facecamping won't get you pips and it won't get you points so the majority of them are all in lowerish ranks as they should be.
Facecamping is incredibly boring for the killer as well so most of your higher rank people who enjoy interactions or want to actually play the game will never do it without some underlying reason.
Point being, try and get to red ranks and you should see a lot of the face campers disappear.
You know, that makes a lot of sense. Maybe it will all disappear once I get my survivor rank up near my killer rank.

How come that recently there pops up a new thread daily with "I'm killer main, facecamp sucks" by accounts that just have a handful of posts?
Been lurking the forum for a couple of weeks and I haven't seen this exact thing pop up. This is a forum for asking questions like this of the community, is it not? Also, I wasn't stating that "face camp sucks", as my original post clearly indicated that it doesn't bother me much. I was just inquiring as to the general consensus regarding the strategy's viability and why its usage is so common. The quote above this one in my reply answered this quite well, I think.
-
What a broad topic you are opening up here.
Dead By Daylight survivor play is seen as different things by different people. When you don't play Killer the way they expect you to, you'll receive negative feedback after the match. Generally, it's a bad notion to spoil the fun (Iridescent Heads on Huntress for example, or face camping) and try to give them a fun time. Other than that, who knows, man? I've literally had someone complain about me downing them with Bubba's chainsaw. "That weapon is cheating, using it makes you trash" kinda thing.
As far as tunneling goes, I feel the term is used too lightly. For example, if you are injured and are running away from me with another survivor who is fully healthy, then I'm gonna hit you, the injured person. It's just a better strategy than hitting the healthy guy who is gonna now have a speed boost and start looping me. That is not tunneling. Tunneling would be me getting you, hooking you, and then either camping you so you die or then chasing you down to the exclusion of all else for the sake of a mori or another hook.
But they'll complain about it no matter what you do. If you don't go and hook everyone at least once before hooking them again, they'll call it tunneling. Sigh.
-
Honestly, guys, I'd like to keep the conversation on the topic at hand, if possible.
-
@BigBrainMegMain said:
In regards to camping and tunneling, yes, survivors have it pretty hard.
Outside from the camping and tunneling, survivors have it easy.
Fair enough. I agree completely.
But this topic is specifically about the face-camping. I am trying to determine why killers are using this tactic to such a degree. It can't be that they all honestly think its a good way to skill, rank, or blood point up? Because its not. The game doesn't reward it and in my past experiences, players generally choose the most rewarding tactics.
So, again, what gives?

That there is your problem. SWF is basically "legal" cheating because the devs can't stop the use of discord, and it lines their pockets with cash.
The game was not and is still not designed for you to tell each other every single thing the killer is doing and to organise gen completion and team heals.
This is very evident to the killer and the entire feel of the game changes between swf vs solo.
If we weren't partied up we might as well have been, given the perks and items available.
But that's a point for a different day. SWF has no bearing on face-camping and doesn't explain why its a tactic so generally in use.

It's the game. I have almost 3k hours on Xbox. I've played on an OG Xbox One and Xbox One X (currently). Things got slightly better when I switched to the X but a lot of stuff is still there. Here is a list...
1) The game suffers a massive lag spike anytime a notification pops up. Any Hex or perk activation makes everyone, killer and survivor, suffer frame drops. Getting bloodlust as killer causes frame drops. Using your power as some killers (Hag, Doc, falling asleep V Freddy) causes frame drops. The most egregious offender here is Sloppy Butcher, as it will lag the game for a full 3 seconds sometimes when you get hit.
2) Going off #1, opening a chest causes frame drops for all players. This can actually kill survivors on a hook in phase 2, as it interrupts their struggle and the game thinks they let go.
3) Matchmaking is completely busted. As survivor you can wait AGES for a game, when I know for a fact there are plenty of killers playing at the time. As killer I find games almost instantly. Ranks are all over the place, it's as if they aren't even considered. I get green rank killers as rank 1 survivor, and rank 18's as red rank killer, regularly. You could argue there aren't many killers online, but the problem was the exact opposite about a year ago. It would take me 5-10 minutes to find a game as killer, and less than a minute as survivor. After the update last March things switched overnight, and have steadily been getting worse since.
4) The game crashes constantly or boots you from games for no reason. I was playing in a 4 man, my friend searched a chest as I was disarming a trap (Trapper) and when she finished searching the chest it booted both of us from the game as if the killer quit. We only knew they didn't quit because our 2 other friends were still in the game and told us.
5) Going off #4 we regularly have to restart the game after a match because the SWF lobby gets bugged and shows people not ready or in a game when they are in the lobby and ready on their screen.
The game is a mess on Xbox right now. And there is ABSOLUTELY no excuse for the poor frame rate or frame drops. NONE. My Xbox One X is probably more powerful than most PC's on the market. I can play Gears 4/5 at 4k resolution and 60fps with no issue. I got DOOM Eternal and that game runs butter smooth at 60fps despite there being a ton of stuff happening, with really good graphics and lots of effects. Never did the game hitch or drop frames during the entire campaign, even with 15 enemies on the screen and me moving at 100 MPH around glory killing everything.
I have frame rate issues with Borderlands 3 as well. Even the new Ori game has some kind of frame rate issue, I think that one's a memory leak though because it gets worse the longer your play session. But this isn't because on my console, it's because the developers failed to optimize the game. It seems no one outside id or The Coalition know how to make a game run smoothly on Xbox. Or, more likely, they simply do not care enough to make sure it runs properly because they think they can just port the game to console, do the bare minimum needed for it to run and play well, and call it a day.
You can also tell no one at these companies play their games on console because of how controls are set up. This is one area that bothered me with DOOM Eternal, as the game requires constant movement yet the base controls are not bumper jumper. Anyone who actually plays shooting games on console would realize this as a necessity in the first 60 seconds of playing the game. I will give id credit though, the game runs amazingly well on Xbox, and you can customize controls so I guess I can't complain about this too much. But it's very common for any game that was basically ported from PC to have sub-optimal control layouts for the base controls. DBD is the same thing, though I've been playing with a custom layout since day 1 so I can't even for the life of me remember what the base control scheme is. All I know is that it sucks balls if you actually intend to play the game with some level of optimization and skill. Everyone I know set up their own controls different from the base, which just proves how sub-optimal the base layout is and how little effort the developers actually put into making the game on console.
The problems on Xbox are 100% the developers not giving a #########, because the console (even the base model) can definitely handle the game at 60 fps. Both Gears of War and DOOM Eternal are way WAY more graphically intensive than DBD, yet they both run amazing while DBD plays like a stop motion Tim Burton film a lot of the time.
The issue I have with your first point there is that it isn't true for everyone. My friends and I have ZERO issues when notifications pop up. No lag, no problems. Been asking around and the game works well. I am sure you aren't lying about your issues but my point is, you shouldn't be making blanket statements that make it seem like all of xbox users are having the same problems.
-
Oh man, I am super stoked this thread exists!
I'd say 2 out of 3 matches I get at least one message on xbox from the survivors I just played against. Here are the best ones from recent encounters that all spawned decent conversations.
"Please stop playing Huntress. I mean it. Give the rest of us a chance!"
"GG...we were EZ"
"Can you teach me how to Spirit like that?"
"The plague? Who the **** plays Plague? What? Damn. How? Why?"
And finally, a particularly toxic Meg who teabagged the whole match but I death hooked as exits opened,
"If I hadn't been bagging this would have been different. My bad"
Honestly, the majority of my messages weren't positive, however. Playing Spirit over the weekend for the first time, I received everything from death threats to all manner of name-calling. Did really poorly my first time out with Spirit and EVERY survivor felt the need to mention how much of a noob I was instead of just taking their win and moving on. After my first 4k with her a few hours later, someone threatened to find me and kill me and my family. Awesome.
So its great to see and publicize the positivity out there. I am hoping to see more as I continue playing.
-
Interesting.
I am experiencing none of these issues on Xbox and I stream this game daily. In fact, my viewers and I noticed a sharp increase in framerate after the last update.
I have noticed, however, that after about 6-8 hours of running the game, it does start to suffer a little performance wise. The menus lag and my framerate becomes sluggish. I just restart the game and its all good from there. :)

Legion is, frankly, a boring killer to play. His ineffectiveness aside, his kit lacks any of the pizzazz that so many others have. His loop is remarkably simple: Chase and deep wound everyone, try to down as many as you can as a basic attack melee killer while they heal, get looped in the process, rinse and repeat. At least with other basic attack killers (The Shape, The Spirit, The Doctor, etc) you have SOMETHING you can use to make you competitive. Leaping over pallets and vaulting just isn't enough.
When Legion came out it was a disaster. They were too ridiculously OP (especially with Frank's mixtape) so Behavior already re-balanced them once. That re-balancing apparently meant a nerf that took them straight to the basement. I'd still play Legion over Ghost Face, but neither would make me happy.
-
He is FAR from another Legion release situation. There is plenty of counterplay! Loop, genrush, and break that chain, baby.
