As per title. I feel like DBD's in a rocky state right now and there's a lot of pressure on BHVR to deliver a fantastic anniversary. If BHVR "flops" in any aspect - killer design, perks, license choice (if any?),do you feel like DBD might be on a road to continously-falling playing numbers?

Outright die? No, because it still has a decently sized playerbase and most casuals don't care about major changes.

It will keep bleeding players that aren't casual though once the chapter flops because killer design has become extremely limited in scope. Most feel the exact same as all the others to play. They keep knee-capping them in creative expression which makes the game get boring very fast.

So likely 10k less players or so i would guess.

    Pretty much title.

I honestly don't think they care about anything besides money. They are a company and that's justified but the quality of the game just keeps declining, because every time they address a huge issue they add in their own ill-thought changes and ruin something else.

I don't think this community has the best ideas always but they are far better than the birdbrained ideas BHVR often implements.

They fit because they can run around and kill people with interesting powers that are fun to play with. Though Sadako's isn't that good, which proves that these concepts have limits to what makes a fun character to adapt to DbD.

What is Jack Nicholson with an axe going to do for an ability? Summon typewriters? He did literally nothing unique or interesting that could be put into a video game. He had no powers, no gimmicks, no quirks. Also a lot of people really hate the K-pop star and manga cosplayer, myself included, so maybe you shouldn't use them as examples.

And IT is an interdimensional demon who does nothing but psychologically torment people for the majority of the movie. What's he going to do for a power? His funny little dance? They couldn't do Freddy Krueger right and he's the same thing, you think they can do Pennywise better?

Its strange how much potential this game has and how they seem to constantly squander it with such unoriginal and uninspired killer releases.

Mix that with extremely contrived playstyles that are forced onto you to make it as boring and repetitive as possible, and you have a game that is only going downhill.

Its so obvious these developers just stumbled onto the right formula for a successful 1v4 asym. type game, and really have no idea what even makes their game good at this point.

They need to think outside the box in designing good killers from here on out or eventually another company far more ambitious and competent will do what they wont. Once an indie dev company actually understands what makes DBD good and just pastes that formula in their own game, it is game over for BHVR.

Needs a grey alien killer that can mind control survivors and force grabs on others. Needs a wizard with fireballs and frost magic, etc. All the killers right now feel the exact same besides nurse, and it's just boring as all hell.

  • Give every killer 2 powers as baseline.

Knight is fine as he is, blame the player base for only doing boring stuff with him. He doesn't need to camp a 3 gen to be fierce and dangerous.

The only thing I would change on him would be the detection range of the guards in order for The Map Of The Realm to not feel like a must equip add-on. Otherwise, he's a blast.

He has a lot of potential as a killer and it's so sad to see that people just use him to camp (which he's terrible at doing by the way). The guards can be used in many creative ways. Set ambushes. Break palettes midchase to limit survivors' options. Use the jailor to patrol totem spawns. At worst, guards can chase survivors away from objectives and make them waste time while you're busy doing something else.

You cant be serious when you say use the guards to patrol totems. I know you do not play him when you say that. They last for no time at all. It's not even worth the time to set them up to guard a totem for 20 seconds.

The patrol part of his power makes absolutely no sense, and it's only real use is dropping it at pallets on on surviviors you are already chasing, or yes like you said, ambush survivors healing/on gens occasionally. But its too weak of a power to be fun to use/go against. Guards being no threat on their own is kinda pointless.

  • @Shroompy said:

This would just make him feel worst to play against since now he'd be better at 3 gens, (because a Guard could last up to almost 2 minutes near a gen) going down to his Guards would almost be guaranteed since I don't think you understand just how fast 110% is for them, or even 115%. You also have a killer that has basically no skill required in order to use their power making them boring af to play and even less appealing than he already is.

Quite honestly, The Knight is fine. He is in a very similar boat to Bubba in the way he's actually fairly fun to play as and against but if the person playing him decides to be a dick then its just a really unfun experience for the Survivors (Bubba has camping, he has 3 gens)

He does basically what Twins players have been longing for and that's being in 2 places at once but actually applying pressure to both of those places. His Guards all have multiple ways you can use them but all people do is treat them all the exact same way and just zone or 3 gen. They all have quite a bit of versatility and there is so much more depth to him that I'm actually contemplating making either an entire essay on it for the forums, or hell even jump into content creation to make an in depth guide for him (and other killers who are severely under appreciated, looking at you Merchant)

His ability would not have a lot of up-time, and he would now be a pure m1 killer in chase.

A 3 gen can be countered by survivors who use their brains. Simply saying you don't want to change/expand any of the killers because of bonehead survivors, will just mean the game keeps bleeding players and getting more boring.

Yeah man he is great right now, a 10 second patrol that any moron can avoid is definitely what makes him a solid killer. Definitely fun to drop his power at pallets as his guards stumble onto a 1cm area back and forth if it doesnt detect survivors. Totally nothing wrong with fundamental basics of his kit.

Recently I saw that some content creators uploaded videos with bait-like titles with theme of "possible end of DbD" just after PTB came out few days ago.

Seriously, I am disapointed of this bait / exaggerative narrative. First of all, it's PTB and I am pretty sure some changes will be reverted since so many people online including influencers are talking how bad it is. Giving objective feedback is of course in need but I really don't like this exaggerative apocalypse themed narrative.

Second, we had in the past some quite not great patches. The last meta-shake up was also big nerf to solo Survivors and people were calling it "the end of DbD" as well. So MANY times in the past was "end of DbD" but it never happend and same case will be with this patch even if all these changes will go live.

The game is bleeding players because the core design of the game and killers never change.

Needs new killer designs that really challenge both the killer and survivors. Every killer besides nurse just starts to feel the same the more you play. Needs more variation and wacky designs like hers (but not OP).

It would be too complex for the casual audience dbd aiming and designed for

I do not agree with that because the simplicity they keep designing killers around is just getting more and more boring. You are right in that new killer designs will add a layer of complexity, but i am not asking for a killer that requires you to solve complex puzzles. It's just more nuance in countering them and having fun playing as them.

  • @RainehDaze said:

Do you really think it'll feel better if his power is limited in use by people running around injured, can still be disabled, is completely AI focused because you're stuck with dropping and praying, and is obsessed with pallets?

It's basically Nemesis with faster zombies and ADHD.

I didn't design him. My idea is just a lot better IMO than what he currently is without any major redesign being made.

Yes i do believe that stronger AI, more limited use of it, is what would make him funner to go as or against, is whats called for with The Knight.

Wesker is a strong killer. Probably the best released by BHVR this year. If you think he is weak you either haven't played him to his full potential or you haven't seen him be played at full potential.

I do agree with the 3 points overall that you made. Map design is awful, gens are too fast b/c of perks as well as spread of generators. Survivor items need a fat nerf yesterday. The weaker killers need to be buffed in some way. They just can't keep up with speeds.

The power is just not very good in and of itself. He compares most well with The Cannibal i'd say.

Same charge time, cooldown, recov time, and very similar distances gained. But Cannibals power is way better because he can turn, shred pallets, and insta-down. He really needs a small buff in being able to do more unique things with it IMO.
