  • If you guys can't answer or give a good answer for something. Take 30 seconds, acknowledge the problem, acknowledge the frustration, acknowledge that it's being worked on, and move on. If most of the show is no comment or working on it, you're wasting everyone's time if ur making us tune in to a multi-hour dev stream where the only takeaway is We're nerfing CoH.

What on earth are you talking about?

I don't want proof of your feelings, I want proof of the thing that is being accused here. You can feel however you want, I don't care, but I'm not going to follow suit unless there's actual reason to. Again, I point you to the fact that my initial post was just answering the question in the thread- every other post I've made here is in response to someone else arguing with me, and I'm obviously going to defend my position when someone does that.

So if the confusion here is that you think I'm invested in how other people feel about the game or its developers, I'm happy to clear that confusion up- I'm defending my position on the topic, not the other way around.

If you say so, dude. Once again, agree to disagree. Please don't quote me again, I'm trying to move on from the convo.

I understand and acknowledge why people feel the way they feel, and all I'm doing is also sharing how I feel. I acknowledge that people think BHVR are lazy cash-grabbing types, and my answer to that is that there's really no evidence of it. That's all that's happening here, I'm not trying to shut anyone down- a question was asked, I answered, and people have then initiated arguments based on my answer to the question.

What am I supposed to do, instantly fold when someone disagrees?

What exactly would proof be then? And why does it matter whether there is proof or not? If you ask people to vote for you, you ask for their opinions. People can feel however they want, based on whatever they want, and just because you don't think it's indicative of anything doesn't mean it actually isn't.

Just because YOU don't think waiting a week to mention a DDOS issue isn't evidence, doesn't mean it isn't. No one can directly view into anyone's heart so saying there's no proof of their feelings when the topic is on their feelings or opinions is absolutely trying to be dismissive of said opinions.

I've yet to see you say to anyone speaking positively that there's no proof that they love the game, but you've gone out of your way to tell everyone on the opposite side that maybe they should reconsider. You're not being objective, you're being defensive and dismissive as if you can't accept people have a multitude of reasons to feel the way they do and you need to disprove it.

Uhhh... huh? Mind clarifying? I'm not sure what you're getting at here.

Na, we've said our opinions on why we feel how we feel about this being a labor of love. If all you can say to everyone's opinions is "Well no, this doesn't 100% mean they did this with malice" then yea, no #########. No one here is a mind reader, including yourself.

Instead of trying to understand or acknowledge why people might feel a why you've spent this entire thread telling people why their opinion is invalid because it can't be 100% confirmed.

Negativity bias. Fewer people feel inclined to post about a game they're enjoying just to say they enjoy it, but people are very inclined to talk about something they dislike. Not to mention that the social media platforms tend to be almost entirely negative anyway- even the DS change got an overwhelmingly negative response on twitter despite it being one of the best changes they've made.

This goes triple when it comes to things like the examples I'm usually shown for BHVR showing a lack of respect for their playerbase. Like the "play something else" clip, where the one dev, whoever it was, just gave the correct answer to the question being presented, or any given accusation of BHVR lying when that isn't happening.

Not to say they're perfect devs, they're not, I'm not defending them.

If your every argument is just "These things they did wrong don't mean anything" or "These people don't represent anything meaningful" then no need to have this convo. Agree to disagree.

And just because you do think they're compelling doesn't mean they were to anyone else, either.

I feel like the amount of people on every social media platform saying they dont deserve the nom does...

What terrible reactions are you referring to, exactly? I've seen a few examples before, but they've never been particularly compelling as even incorrect, let alone reason to start slinging around comments about not caring or what have you.

Just because you don't think they're compelling doesn't mean they weren't to everyone else.

I really don't know why so many people are resistant to the idea that BHVR obviously care a lot about their darling, and they're just somewhat bad at balancing + ongoing development. Does it make it easier to swallow to think they're greedy corporate scumbags who don't care about the game or something?

You missed the part where I mentioned their terrible reactions to the community outside of the game. So you'll need to inform me on where you think this love is that the rest of us are so blind to.

If you stopped trying to paint differing opinions to make yourself feel like you have an optimistic high ground, this would be a much simpler discussion.

Nobody is going to deny that their are problems with the game but to say the vast majority of the community being unhappy with the game is not entirely correct.

These forums are but a fraction of the community, they don't reprisent the whole community. If the vast mayority was unhappy the vast mayority would stop playing it. And that's not what's happening.

Yea, please go check where they put out the word asking for votes on any platform. Twitter, reddit, their own discord, their own forum, even Steam. Everyone laughed.

  • @jesterkind said:

I did. Making poor decisions isn't indicative of not caring about their game, and it's still getting plenty of attention and care from the devs, so they're at least legitimate nominees for the award.

Dead By Daylight is a labour of love, and there's a strong argument for that being a contributing factor to its ongoing issues.

Compared to every other indie game on the market? Absolutely not. The vast majority of the community is not happy with the game, and this goes beyond the community being somewhat whiny. Simple problems are ignored, large community outcries are responded to tactlessly, and it's not a coincidence that the appearance of any other game in this genre has tons of people looking for greener pastures.

Whatever love is or was here, I definitely don't feel it. And for a company that was said to be one of the best to work at, it doesn't really seem to be translating to their product which is REALLY disappointing.

This game feels like someone got lucky with something catching on and ran with it as best they could for as long as they could, but we're way past that point right now.

No... I personally feel like spine chill is incredibly helpful with avoiding being stalked and tunneled in general against a stealth killer in specific.

No perk should act like it's disabled when it comes to any killer as it could make it completely useless.

I really find that spine chill is helpful as well especially with new players that are clueless with stealth killers... so I really don't agree with this.

That's a larger problem with DBD in general and specific perks shouldn't be crutches to prevent annoying or bad gameplay while simultaneously nullifying a killer's entire power.

  • Make it simple. Force Survivors to use at least two of their teachables. If the game ends up with everyone using the same 3 characters, then maybe those perks are busted and should be nerfed in the first ######### place.

I doubt that any of those devs could challenge a professional player. They don’t have enough time to become experts, which is why they should watch people who are top.

You're missing the point completely mate.

Also pretty sure one of the FF14 devs played in the 92% percentile, so you're wrong either way.

For the most part, this doesn’t happen. A dev’s job is to make sure the game functions (BHVR also fails this part.) The problem isn’t that BHVR plays at a low level, it’s that they don’t lean on good players they can watch or bring in. Most devs look at skilled players to balance the game. BHVR either doesn’t care or is too arrogant to admit that they don’t know the game.

Dev companies absolutely have their staff playing the game. FF14 and Smash both have their leads being extremely competent at their game. Playing the video game is absolutely a thing most companies do.

Balancing the video game is still the job of the company and that doesn't happen overnight with zero actual knowledge of the video game or how it works or it's played. Bhvr has fog whisperes, they have forums, they have the PTB, they have a multi-lingual game. They're absolutely aware of what issues commonly get discussed and in what regions.

Whether they agree or have any idea how to address these issues is something else.

  • @humanbeing1704 said:

Probably not? Not a whole lot of Devs actually play their own games

Good Devs absolutely do. Most MMOs, most fighting games, and most Mobas have dev teams that play their games at all levels. If the company can't understand how the game works at every level, how can you possibly expect them to balance for it or understand player issue.

  • When the developers can't play their own game at high level, you should always question their balancing chocies and decisions.

  • Solve the box before chain hunt starts. If you wait that long it's on your team for not solving it earlier.

  • So here's the inherent problem, survivors have a goal of gen completion with the player interaction of chasing. Even if you don't survive, a good survivor game should be one where you feel like you did something. You affected the final standings of the game. You did a gen, you found no ed, took a protection hit, you ran the killer for x distance, you managed to hide, etc. For the killer, that's only really manifested in getting hooks.

A beginner has no idea if they're slowing gen progress. A killer doesn't really know if they're successfully harassing the whole team. What they know are hooks and downs. The only controllable portion of killer gameplay that they have complete knowledge of, is "I took you guys down this many times." Which depending on the survivors isn't in your control at all. With good map selection, good palette placement, and good enough survivors, you can't get that single controllable aspect of your game to feel controllable.

Behavior likely wants to add side objectives (boon totems) to killer to address that but without these objectives impacting survivors in a noticeable way, it just makes a hard job even harder without any idea of success or reward.

It's really funny how people complain on and on about why survivors use the same perks but then when strong perks come out for survivors it's complained about and is nerfed into the ground. It's so annoying.

We haven't gotten any new meta perks untill now. And chances are they are going to nerf thees perks too

I'm sorry but it doesn't matter what they put out. Survivor knowledge can allow them to do a lot of things, but DS and BT perks directly interact with how the killer acts and punish them for it. If the game ensured killers had to leave you alone for a while after unhooking, survivors could go perkless and roughly achieve the same results.

  • This is a stupid argument against this. Any build that let's you undo what the killer does in less time then it takes to do what should be their fastest and easiest thing should be classified as a problem. if there were perks that let you sabotage hooks faster then it took for a killer to pick someone up, would you be defending it just because someone dedicated a build towards it?

I swear to god there are some people in this community who will defend anything so long as it doesn't instantly end the game.

  • What I think a lot of people are missing here is the idea that we should compare all of the variables.

Time Investment: One of Four Survivors Blessing a Totem for 20 seconds vs. a Killer taking the time to find it and then snuffing it out in one second. Secondly snuffing it out doesn't stop it, as it can be put up again.

Build Loadout: All Four Survivors who can each run boons vs. the Killer who has to potentially contend with potentially four fields of better self care for all four survivors. The idea that "it's okay because it takes up a perk slot" is laughable. Everything takes up a perk slot. The only question should be time investment, potential time wasted, and potential net game to surviving the killer. Its value is very clear.

Perk Combos: Boons stack with other things. If you're running any healing perk, have a healing item or are being healed by someone else the value is much higher overall for the team. Not to mention survivors have the means to find totems to bless. Killers don't.

Affect on Killers: For Killers who juggle multiple people, this perk is a nightmare. On top of working my ass off to keep map pressure, if you leave any survivor alone for too long, so long as a totem is within their area and blessed, they'll heal or have a long enough chance to. If your killer is the type to stay on a survivor and get that down, so long as they have a good totem placement and good loop spots, it's very possible to fully heal mid chase.

There's almost no reason to leave a boon totem up if you find one, and I cant imagine a survivor who runs it isnt gonna try and light totems they find.

All in all the healing boon is a significant buff to healing builds because everything that heals stacks. So if you dont think boons are a problem, then maybe you should be asking why they put this out when healing and survivability for survivors are clearly very strong. And secondly, if survivors can also use totems, should a killer have the option to more permanently remove totems from a match?

I can respect the feelings behind wait and see, but that doesn't mean we can't try and give an objective opinion right now and later change our ideas and feelings if proven wrong. Saying everything is fine just because it's new is how the game becomes a broken mess for far too long.

  • At his best, Pinhead is possible the most oppressive killer they've made. The problem is that's only 10% of the time. And the other 90% he's either okay or terrible. And it's almost entirely rng dependant because even if you play smart, the map itself might deny you a reward for such good play due to how chains break.

  • @theplaggg said:

I'll never understand how some people in this discussion consider Pinhead strong. The only time a Pinhead is actually strong is with purple or iridescent addons. The chain hunt can be completely avoided the whole game with by any decent team. The power is really hard to hit and doesn't even guarantee a hit.

Base kit PH feels worse than release Trickster

He can be strong but it's super inconsistent. He basically loses or has a decent shot at winning on map selection and he can mess with a good solo queue better than any other killer, especially if you run plaything. Surprise chain hunt and you can basically pick them clean as they run around like chickens or just rage quit. Chain hunt can be overwhelming if you let it. This is bad because, with the right map, the environment can make a good active chain slow go from 5 seconds slow to a 2, so you can't even catch up thanks to the time it takes.

Not to mention any premade, that knows to solve the box on every down nullifies your strongest power, which gets weaker the fewer survivors there are. They know to juke the chain as it starts flying because the portal appears near them. They know that if they gain enough distance, an active chain without chain hunt won't let you catch up. And they know the lunge is bugged so they can expertly play you on loops.

It's hard to say where exactly he is because he's extremely reliant on perks that give you info or help you mind game, but the bugs certainly aren't helping much. You're doing a lot of work for a character who most of the time is somewhere between a clown and a death slinger, and can be very easily denied from being a doctor.

  • If the problem is he can body block you, wouldn't the optimal strat while he's cloaked to be constantly turning and running while staying near a vault or pallette. He has to ring his bell before he hits you, sounds like all the tools you need to react are there.
