Hook toggle option

It's possible the game could benefit from a toggle option that allows a survivor to be either unhookable or not by other survivors. I believe this would be a healthy feature that wouldn't affect high end competitive play but still not take away the initiative of the hooked player if they do not wish to be unhooked yet.

A great example of this would be solo play/playing with randoms; Farming especially comes to mind as sometimes it's better to leave a player on the hook now and to unhook them at a better time to ensure the best outcome for the team. However as it stands now currently players are often unhooked/traded/farmed In close proximity of the killer with the hooked player unable to reject such a development, a reason to reject for example is the utilization of perks like deliverance for a safe escape when the killer isn't near or perhaps the survivor needs to be afk for a second and the hook is the safest place to be.

High end swf teams will be unaffected by this as it only helps to create a more enjoyable experience for less coordinated survivor groups. A good way to implement this would be to have an icon indicating whether a survivor wants to be unhooked or not. This could also be used by survivors as a way to indicate if a killer is camping the hook perimeter to prevent downs that could have been avoided with voice calls.

In closing I think this would be a healthy addition to the game that wouldn't' affect high end play much like icons for generator progress and chase indicators. Thank you for taking the time read this, I hope even if not implemented someone working on dbd can play around with the idea and see if there's any more suitable way to implement such a feature.

  • Would be abused to go next by preventing people from unhooking that survivor and so they can die on the hook.

I dont think that this is really a good argument against it. People who would go next will just run at the Killer if they want to go next. At best, at worst they also throw every Pallet on the map to troll their teammates.

I still dont think it would be a good idea. Sometimes I wish something like this would exist. I run Deliverance and sometimes I cannot even use it, because someone else farms me off immediatly after I am hooked and before I even have the prompt. Or in general unsafe and unnecessary Unhooks could be avoided with an option to refue the unhook.

But I also can see people just refusing to get unhooked because they want their SWF-Mate to get the points or something like that.

Overall, I dont think it is worth the time to implement such a feature, even if it would have positives.

Its the same argument why they made self-unhook not be possible without perks or luck offerings. Preventing unhooking would do the same they already countered with that.

Yeah, I mean, preventing Self-Unhooks also did almost nothing against people who want to go next. That they did a pointless change before does not mean it was a change that made sense.

  • In my opinion, rather than implementing a feature to directly refuse an unhook, I would love to see a 'requesting rescue' animation that can be toggled on and off with a left-click. Currently, left-clicking just triggers the traditional 'attempt self-escape' animation. When players use this, other Survivors have no way of knowing if the hooked player is just flailing their arms out of boredom or genuinely struggling to signal that they want to be rescued.

I too agree, I usually move my arms to warn players the killer is heading their way, maybe another unspoken rule needs to be made
