Why trapper should NEVER be buffed and his crimes

Why Buffing The Trapper Is Completely Pointless

Filed by: The Fog’s Department of Unnecessary Hope

Subject: Evan MacMillan, a.k.a. “The Trapper”
Status: Forever mid-tier, always iconic

Summary

Every few months, someone at Behaviour HQ says:

“Hey, maybe we should buff Trapper!”

And every time, the community collectively sighs and goes,

“We’ve been here before, buddy.”

Because no matter how many traps you let him carry, no matter how fast he sets them, no matter how lovingly you polish his mask — Trapper will always be Trapper.

He’s not bad. He’s just... Trapper.
And buffing him won’t change that.

1. He’s a Killer from 2016, and It Shows

Trapper was the first killer ever.
He was built back when DBD was basically four generators and a dream.

His power: put bear traps on the ground and hope someone forgets they exist.
That was scary in 2016.
In 2025, every Survivor is a parkour god with 200 hours on loop tech.

Buffing Trapper now is like giving a flip phone 5G —
it doesn’t make it modern, it just confuses it.

2. No Buff Can Fix Bad Geography

You can give Trapper a PhD in Map Knowledge and he’d still spawn his traps like this:

  • One in the middle of nowhere
  • One inside a rock
  • Three in the basement, because why not

His entire power depends on RNG. Sometimes you spawn on Coldwind and feel like a god.
Sometimes you spawn on RPD and realize your traps are in another timezone.

Buffing him doesn’t help when half your traps are emotionally unavailable.

3. Survivors Have Eyeballs Now

Back in the day, players didn’t see traps.
They were new. They panicked. They screamed.

Now?
Every Survivor can spot a trap from orbit.
They disarm them, point, laugh, and then teabag next to them like they’re filming a vlog.

Even if you made traps invisible, glowing red lasers would appear just from muscle memory.

Buff idea: Make Survivors blind.
Problem: Still not enough. They’d hear the trap’s self-esteem rattling.

4. Buffing Him Just Makes Him More of a Meme

Let’s be honest — Trapper isn’t scary. He’s beloved.

He’s the dad of Dead by Daylight.
The man who shows up at the cookout with rusty bear traps and says,

“Back in my day, we didn’t have teleporters or drones. We had grit.”

You could give him instant trap placement and 140% movement speed,
and the community would still treat him like a golden retriever with PTSD.

Buffing him won’t make him strong. It’ll just make his memes faster.

5. He’s Balanced Around Suffering

Trapper mains don’t play to win — they play for the drama.

They want the slow buildup. The tension. The glorious moment when someone finally steps in the one trap that’s been waiting 12 minutes.

If you buffed him to be strong, that moment would vanish.
The suffering is what makes him Trapper.

You can’t remove the pain. It’s part of the experience.
It’s not “Dead by Daylight” — it’s “Trapped by Bad Luck.”

6. Buffs Can’t Fix The Real Problem: His Fans

Let’s face it — Trapper mains are the problem and the solution.

They’ll spend 10 minutes setting up the perfect trap maze,
then walk directly into it themselves.

They’ll trap the basement, forget where they put them, and down themselves mid-chase.

No buff can save a man who traps his own feet.
It’s tradition at this point.

🧱 7. The Fog Doesn’t Need a Buffed Trapper — It Needs Therapy

If Behaviour actually buffed him to meta status, the Fog would implode.
The Entity would be confused.
Survivors would be traumatized.
And Trapper mains wouldn’t know what to do with success.

They’d still say:

“He needs something. Maybe more traps. Or a hug.”

Conclusion

Buffing Trapper is like trying to modernize a haunted toaster.
It’s charming because it’s broken.

He’s not meant to dominate.
He’s meant to be the tutorial boss that somehow still kills you because you got cocky.

No matter what Behaviour does:

  • His traps will still spawn in Narnia
  • Survivors will still crouch around them giggling
  • And Trapper will still be that lovable oaf who just wants you to step somewhere, anywhere, please

Final Verdict:
Do not buff Trapper.
Let him be the humble, rusty legend he was always meant to be.
Because in the end, he doesn’t need power — he has personality.

NOW ON TO HIS CRIMES

⚖️ Dead by Daylight — Fog Enforcement Bureau

Official Notice of Prohibited Entities and Gameplay Hazards

Subject: Evan “The Trapper” MacMillan
Status: ILLEGAL under the Fog’s Fair Play Act, Section 8: “Unreasonable Use of Heavy Metal and Poor Spatial Awareness.”
Date: November 2025
Classification: Misdemeanor to Historic Mischief (with optional felony-level clumsiness)

Summary

After multiple eyewitness reports and excessive meme evidence, The Entity’s Department of Player Experience has determined that The Trapper poses a sustained threat to match flow, player morale, and footwear. His continued public deployment of industrial-grade nostalgia (a.k.a. bear traps) endangers Survivors, confuses teammates, and causes chronic rock resentment. Until further notice, Evan MacMillan is to be treated as illegal under the Fog’s anti-stalemate statutes — pending either a rework, a map-awareness course, or a sincere apology to every rock he’s ever offended.

Evidence of Criminal Activity

1. Improper Deployment of Heavy Metal

The Trapper scatters bear traps with the spatial logic of a man who believes the map is a suggestion. Offenses include:

  • Placing traps in obvious loop exits (intent: humiliation)
  • Hiding traps in non-walkable geometry (intent: confusion)
  • Depositing entire trap collections in the basement like a rusty shrine

Verdict: Hazardous nostalgia distribution.

2. Gen Zone Subversion

While not typically a generator-focused killer, Trapper’s traps frequently turn key gen zones into obstacle courses. Survivors trying to complete objectives are forced into:

  • Unnecessary hopscotch
  • Extreme yoga poses to avoid ankle mangling
  • Distracted teabagging, which prolongs matches

Verdict: Class B Gen Interference — makes chores performative.

3. Time Theft & RNG Abuse

Average match delay attributable to Trapper trap-checking: 8–12 minutes of suspicious circling per trap. His power’s effectiveness is highly variable and strongly correlated with map RNG. Players report:

  • Spending more time looking for traps than doing gens
  • Traps “going missing” to alternate dimensions (colloquial: Narnia)
  • Entire matches decided by which rock the map gave him

Verdict: Grand larceny of pacing and map consistency.

4. Emotional Torture by False Hope

Trapper excels at creating the illusion of vulnerability — the Survivor thinks, “I outsmarted him!” — only to be betrayed by a tiny spring and sudden regret. Long-term exposure causes:

  • Lingering distrust of all decorative pebbles
  • Flashbacks to clicking noises at 3 AM
  • An uptick in robust teabagging as catharsis

Verdict: Cruel and unusual loop theatrics.

5. False Advertising & Boss Energy Fraud

He shows up in the killer menu as “The Trapper” and presents himself as fearsome. In practice he:

  • Sometimes forgets where he placed his traps
  • Occasionally walks into his own contraptions mid-chase
  • Frequently demonstrates inconsistent intimidation levels (0% — 100% depending on shoes)

Verdict: Fraudulent branding with the scent of hay and rust.

Known Associates & Enablers

  • Basement — close confidant and frequent co-conspirator
  • Rocks — unwitting accomplices
  • The Internet — memes and highlight reels enabling continued operation

Player Safety Recommendations

If you encounter The Trapper:

  1. Do a lap. Try to maintain dignity while checking the four cardinal directions.
  2. Bring gloves. For handling emotional fallout after stepping in a trap.
  3. Mark suspicious rocks. Post-match, send him a polite postcard: “Please stop.”
  4. If he apologizes mid-match, accept it and move on — tears are metallic and rusty.

Sentencing Recommendation

Offense

Punishment

Conclusion

Evan “The Trapper” MacMillan is guilty of being a charmingly infuriating relic from the Fog’s early days. His crimes are low in malice but high in comedic collateral damage. The Bureau finds that while prosecution without compassion would be cruel, action is warranted to preserve match flow, player footwear, and the dignity of rocks everywhere.

Recommended directive: Do not buff. Do not weaponize more traps. Instead, require rehabilitation through map-awareness training, tasteful trap placement certification, and at least one public service livestream demonstrating proper trap etiquette.
