No. You still have to spend time finding a totem, spend time blessing a totem, remain in the narrow area that a totem has effect anytime anything happens so your aura isn’t read, and relight the totem when the killer inevitably finds and snuffs it.

oh, and use it in a multifloor area, so both its range and the pathing distance required to reach it go up significantly. I thought everyone agreed by now that boons limitations are significantly diminished on a good chunk of maps (not all, of course.) in the middle of an open area? yeah they're still pretty much useless. But tiles and placement can make them quite a bit more useful.
On certain maps, like Temple of Purgation, Midwich, RPD, Ironworks, and The Game, totems can spawn in really out of place locations, or spawn in ways that lets you practically set up a perma-stealth zone that covers a very wide area.
Try loading a custom game with 4 survivor bots, equipped with Shadow Step and see for yourself. I was pretty surprised to how well it actually worked, and how easily you lose chase with them, especially on an indoor map.
Shadow Step is best used with other Boons or an aura denying build. By itself it’s not very good. I’ve used it by itself and got very little value from it. It’s stationery and there are too many variables that has you constantly moving around the map.

I liked the idea of boons and I have received value from Shadowstep but trying to replace Distortion with it just isn’t the move. Run Sole Survivor (not a good substitution either) or a looping build instead.
i am sure the people that complained about Distortion users doing ‚nothing‘ all game (which wasnt even the truth and definitley not bound to the perk) will be happy about people staying in Boon range to hide their aura.
also, just just to add to your great recommendation:

Are they now portable or something?

DbD is not a counterpick game
