Would licenses outside of movies, shows, and videogames be worth doing?

I was wondering what would people think about killers from sources beyond movies, TV shows, and videogames.

Some big general sources that come to mind are books (such as Dracula, Frankensteins monster, etc) and board games (Nemesis, mansions of madness, etc). Admittedly board games are by far my primary hobby.

Would people be into these or would that just be a bad idea?

People nowadays wouldn't care as much as the more mainstream things.

Stranger Things was very mainstream when the chapter came out, Resident Evil started making their remakes, Halloween was still making movies... that's not the case for all of them, like Pinhead, Silent Hill, etc. They were just heavily suggested by the players. From other medias though, creepypasta characters would be it for me.

Jeff The Killer would be awesome, but his power would fit more in with the Legion than anyone else.

Sirenhead, he could imitate sounds that survivors make to lull them into a false sense of security, and when he finds a survivor, his siren sounds.

This does make me think about SCPs that could be good options as well

On that note, way back when legion was new I had taken a break from DbD. Came back (without doing any research about the game, just reinstall and play), jump straight into a survivor game with a friend, and I ######### you not the first thing I said when I saw the legion was "Is that ######### Jeff the Killer?!"

That would be an A+ skin for Legion btw. Frank does look like a bit like him with that creepy mask. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Jeff himself is 100x more scary than Legion would ever be though in my opinion.

And there's no license for him since whoever made him... 30 somethin' years ago back in Japan made him for fun, and by other people, the original picture kept getting edited, and edited and edited... until the picture became more and more cursed. lol

So we really don't know who actually made him.

I do like the Hunk skin a lot but I aready have the bunny costume (which I naturally used on easter) . I do wish hunk had more unique voice lines though

  • I've always been of the mind that anything could be adapted as a DBD character with enough creativity. If an adaption is done well in the game, people will buy it. BIg name IPs certainly help with the casual crowd but a well done character will sell.

I want the bunny costumes so bad but I just bought the Baba Yaga skin for Huntress... it was like $15 ๐Ÿ˜ซ Worth it though tbh!

Imma buy the Pink bunny skin I think, it looks more innocent and I like playing as Susie. (Btw... I'm super surprised the devs didn't make those seasonal...)

Yeah it was very odd they didn't make it seasonal. They really should have. The huntress skin is awesome though. I do want a cool skin for each of my killers at some point. I use the pink bunny skin for Legion. I did buy the stars wesker skin. I really want nemesis to get another skin...

Yeah I hope they branch out soon though since most of the big named movies are in already. There are a lot of good options available outside of movies

SCPs would be awesome. SCP-096 and SCP-049 were the ones I was most scared of running into, so I would definitely vote either of them in as a new killer if possible.

SCP-096 is the tall white one that charges you indefinitely if you look at him.

    SCP-049 is the Plague Doctor.

SCPs will be hard to implement for legal reasons. Ever wonder why most SCP games are free? It's because most if not all SCPs do have actual creators and owners, and attempting to monetize them without consent of their original creators is illegal (however, their license allows their usage in "free" products)

The only SCP even somewhat immune to this is 173, and thats the concept itself only (as 173 originated on 4chan where everyone is anonymous and no one can prove it was their idea), the actual design that we all know and love of 173 would need to be changed since the original artist of 173's art (which was not created specifically for 173) has explicitly stated they do not and will not give permission for that design in paid for things.

If you go for the face of SCP itself, 173, then you risk players being upset and disappointed in the redesign required to use them. If you use any other SCP, BHVR would need to go through a bunch of hoops to get it approved by the original creators. The only chance of an SCP coming to DBD is if the creator of an SCP stepped forward and asked to add them to the game, and if BHVR agrees.

Believe me, as much as I'd love to see SCP in DBD, its not going to happen.

  • Would slenderman be a possibility?

Exactly, like I want the Krampus skin for Trapper even though I don't even play him, I know that's a waste of money but it's seasonal and I could change my mind at some point. I used to play him when the Halloween chapter first came out but I lost interest.

Yeah as much as I dislike him in the game, Nemesis deserves some love. This is a long shot but maybe a Mr. X legendary skin? Idk what other skin he could possibly get tbh.

Yeah I kind of think having another re character be a skin would be the move (such as Verdugo from re4 or Mendez from re4). Mrx could also work.

Yeah I have some seasonal skins I just dont use anymore really (such as clown Santa) but I'm still glad I have the skins.

Slenderman was a suggestion every chapter every year for like... 4 years, he is still a good option. Even though the Macmillan Estate would be pretty close to his map already since it's all filled with trees.

A map with more fog would be cool, I really wish they would bring the fog back.

"See you in the fog", no you won't because there isn't any. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Yeah I remember people recommending it ages ago. I do still think he could be worth having.

Some of the fog on maps is a joke lol. I'd love a foggy heavy map

Well they already did one book license with Sadako's addition as the pulled the book license rather than any of the films. Ghostface is just the license of the funworld mask rather than any of the scream films. So Dbd's Ghostface is both a licensed and original killer.

Slenderman's popularity has fallen off a cliff in years and honestly it never really had much in the way of defined powers or lore interesting lore. Then you have to consider that Slenderman also has tainted reputation as we have had real world violence associated with the character here in the US. That's all before you get into the issue of who do you talk to about licensing the character which has been a hassle for folks from time to time as multiple folks have made a play for claiming they created the character while the original photos are owned by a specific known person who seems to not be interested. Like even the Slenderman movie was really bad because there just isn't enough to work with and what was there was hard to reference.

At that point the devs would just be better off making a new original character unconnected to Slender lore.

Oh I had no idea sadako was taken from the book. I did know about Ghostface though. Thanks for the reminder/letting me know about sadako. That does make me feel like there's a good chance more book characters could be added

I completely forgot about that tbh and I even watched that on the news as it came out. You're right though, there are a lot better chapters that can come out. I still think Stephen King's IT would be amazing.

Ever since I saw that fanmade DBD trailer with James. A Janisse narrating it, I wanted that to be real.

Ohh I didn't know he did that. Link to his video?

Would love to have James as a survivor

Not quite, the Sadako we have in dbd is the one from the first and second Ringu movie, everything from Survivor choice, addons, mori, trailer, her ultra-rare skin and her lore is directly taken from those movies.

Despite bhvr talking about the novel in relation to the chapter before it was released, there is actually nothing from the Ringu novel itself that was included in the chapter.

  • not gonna lie, Dracula would be a good killer.
