What happened to The Rift being accesible via playtime ?

Screenshot_2.png

This screenshot is taken from the Anniversary stream.

Yeah ... I just remembered that. What happened to the "not completely greedy, and atleast somewhat fair" thing ? And yes, I know that's "work in progress", but it doesn't justify an obviously predatory change like this.

  • There's a free side.

  • I missed that stream. Were they saying you could access the paid option like thru shards? (aka playtime to earn it? )

    Cause.. then... ya...

    You're not wrong.

  • It is accessible via playtime it's just really slow. 800xp (roughly) 12 minutes in game time gives ONE fragrment. You need TEN fragments for a single tier in the Rift. So 8000xp per tier.

    It's bs.

  • I've also noticed a decline in them offering cosmetics and products in the store to be bought with shards ( the free/earned by playing game currency).

I've been hoping they'd address their practices on this.

You can see on the screenshot, it was originally going to be accesible to get the premium track for free (propably through shards)

  • You're misunderstanding what that picture says. Something that is accessible through playtime cannot be paid, by definition. What it means is that the content on both free and paid is accessed through playtime. They never said you can access paid content by playing alone.

  • Rift takes money to unlock. You don't get whats in the rift by unlocking it. You still have to play to receive items in that track. You are misunderstanding the underline Free and Paid structure.

It was always going to be this way. Thats why you see people disliking the whole thing since it was rumored.

  • notice the "work in progress" at the bottom right of the screenshot. its a business, they changed their minds. at least you still have the free track

  • They knew they were going to do this, but if they announced it like that the first time it would've had a worse reception
