New Game Mode: “Dead By Daylight”
Ok so I was thinking about the game and it occurred to me that the title is odd since time-of-day doesn’t really play a role.
Enter the Dead by Daylight game mode! No generators. No exit gates. No EGC. Instead we have a bar at the top of the screen just like in EGC, but instead of 2 minutes, it’s a 60 minute timer which survivors can affect.
- The goal, survive until the sun comes up OR kill everyone before the sun comes up (ie Dead by Daylight! Eh? Eh? 🤗)
- At the start of the match, the game is very dark, but brightens very slowly as dawn approaches (We get near the end of the timer).
- Survivors can search the map for large sundials (not sure how many yet) and interact to assemble the pieces. These are the “generators”. A completed sundial causes the timer to elapse by an additional second per real-world second. (ie after 2 sundials are complete, 3 timer minutes will elapse in 1 real-world minute.)
- Killers can damage a sundial just like a generator, and the pieces will continue to crumble off until a survivor stabilizes it (regression).
- Survivors may complete all sundials, but still have to survive until the now speedy timer expires, causing the sun to rise.
- Periodically, at random intervals, The Entity will thrash and cause the realm to rumble in a great quake. This causes any survivor outside the terror radius to scream with a notification bubble (like the doctor shocks). Lockers don’t prevent a scream. This is to prevent survivors from hiding out for a whole hour as the killer will have at least a general direction to search in. (I’m open to alternatives if this seems OP).
That’s pretty much it! I’m sure there are things I didn’t consider, like certain perk effects (um, just don’t run Wake-Up, okay?). So let’s hammer out the details and make this thing happen! Yeah!

I really like this idea, however its way to long. I don't want to sit in a game and do nothing for 60 minutes. Id say make the time 15 minutes.
A regular game is around 10-15 minutes so 60 is impossible even if the survivors are extremly good.
I might have been unclear about the timer aspect of this. This will never end up being a 60 minute match.
At first, the timer in-game reduces 1 second at a time, so it seems like 60 minutes to wait.
But after survivors complete the first sundial, it progresses by 2 seconds at a time. (That is, 2 seconds removed from the timer for each real-world second that passes.). This already cuts the timer in half, which turns the original 60 minutes into a max of 30 (minus however long it took to complete the sundial).
After a 2nd sundial is complete, we now go 3 seconds at a time (max 20 minutes). After a third, it is a max of 15 minutes. So on and so forth.
It is in the killer’s best interest to stall repairs as long as possible as each one will cost him a LOT of time! If there are 5 sundials total, then the matches can progress very quickly when they’re all functional. This is why the starting number on the timer needed to be so high.
It is quite literally a struggle between racing-to-dawn and delaying-the-darkness.
I hope this clarifies things!
I like it, the only thing I’d suggest is map sizes being slightly reduced because this seems like it would be a much faster paced game mode. Other than that it sounds like fun.
Personally would like to see a mini game like a board game or something.
What about a DbD themed Chess mode that could be both pvp and pve. All the original Killers could be chess pieces.♟
Smaller maps may be needed. On the other hand we could limit sundials to just 3 or 4 depending on how long average games take. Some testing would be required for sure!
As for chess, yes please! Let us compete for bloodpoints, items, offerings, etc! Keep tally so we can strive for certain ranks. It could be great to play asynchronous matches while waiting in lobbies. Pick up the game where you left off each time you search for a new match! (Something like this would be awesome during the extreme wait times during events, bloodhunts, new chapters, etc.)
