Are players with slow internet being abandoned by the game?

My bff and I have been trying to play dbd together since the new Stranger Things update came live on ps4. She has the terrible unfortunate luck of having satellite internet courtesy of Hughesnet (it’s 2019 the basic of basic internet should be fast enough to play games and not take 4 hours for a mb download.)

Before the update, we were able to play (after a few tries of her internet dying.) She was able to play solo too.

Now, she literally cannot play dbd by herself anymore because her internet isn’t strong enough to host a lobby, and when we DO manage to load up in a lobby, we end up split up with her left behind in the lobby while I’m in a game lobby (with outrageous rank disparities fyi.)

Is this just a dbd bug that will get fixed or will my friend never be able to play dbd again? This is the only game we can play together :(

Satellite internet is terrible for gaming, not only for the slow download speed and hard data limits, but also the very slow ping going from the receiver to the satellite and back.

I am aware of this, but it’s not like my friend has any control over it. Her mom made her move with her from good internet in a nice town to bad internet in the middle of nowhere.

tell her internet connection to git gud

    Funny it costs money.

  • Good enough Internet is a requirement to play dbd. I'm sorry for your friend, but nothing can be done about it.

Besides having bots, but those will probably be boring after playing against real people. Would also require a lot of money and time to be made for very little return

We were able to play before the update though.

Is this a bug or is it intentional?

Idk. But, I do know that no company wants to push players out if they can help it.

  • Either she has to either:

    1) Get stable internet with good connection.

    2) Live with it.

    Unfortunate but that's it.

  • Everyone else has already answered this. Unfortunately, nothing can be done to fix this situation. It's literal physical constraints that are stopping her from being able to play. Put simply, everything she does is, bare minimum, at a 3-second delay, assuming that all her equipment is state-of-the-art, and not even taking into account the download speed of the connection.

I sincerely hope that she's able to move and get a better internet connection soon, but at least there's a lot of really good single-player games in the meantime. Control just came out, and I have to say that it's absolutely amazing.

  • It should. Killers shouldn't be able to make lobbies with bad connection.
