Inherent Obsession Idea
So at this point being the Obsession doesn't really mean too much. The Killer cares who the obsession is but there isn't any real reason to not want to be the Obsession. Additionally the direction these things are going means that the direction the Obsession is going isn't such that the Killer particularly wants to go after the Obsession anyways. Thus I propose that the following 4 things happen:
- The Obsession now preforms repairs and heals 20% slower. That means the Obsession and only the Obsession will take 100 seconds to repair a generator and 20 seconds to heal another Survivor.
- The Obsession is immune to all Killer effects that would slow their action speed down, such as Dying light, Remember me, or Thanataphobia.
- The Obsession's speed boost on being injured lasts 1 second longer
- All games will now have an Obsession even if there isn't any perk to create one.
The Obsession is now poor at doing objectives, but has an advantage in chases. This fits the current design of obsession perks wanting to keep the Obsession alive for all or most of the game. This way the Obsession can be ignored by the Killer when it's to his advantage without being punished quite as much, but also that when he DOES want to eliminate the Obsession it may be harder to do so, thus making it more of a sidegrade than a straight nerf to be the Obsession.
The immunity to other action speed slowdowns is both A: To make sure that the Obsession doesn't have crazy slow action speeds when other perks are stacked on top of the existing 20% slowdown. And B: So we don't have to keep specifying that they are immune to all of these Obsession perks.
Note: The Obsession is not immune to things that slow down movement speed, nor are they immune to effects like ruin or overwhelming presence that have other negative effects. The Obsession is still slowed down by teamwork penalties and by self care.
Comments
Personally I dont think being the obsession should give any positive effects at all. It's already annoying enough on the obsession perks. But it might just be my perception of the status of obsession being a "negative effect".
dont get me wrong, I wholeheartedly support making the obsession status having an impact without perks, but as just mentioned, I perceive this status as something undesireable, something survivors should actually try avoiding unless theyre equipped with perks that make it a strategic choice.
"Who cares that theyre obsession after a d-strike?" shouldnt be a thing.
And for the hit sprint bonus, isnt that a nice idea for an exhaustion perk? (Sorry, couldnt resist the snark as that sounds kinda like all those bandaid-fix-perk ideas being tossed around)
You need to remember that since this idea isn't tied to a perk it can't be too punishing. A 20% decrease in repairs and heals isn't completely counterbalanced by the 1 seconds speed boost, and unless the effects are being stacked a 20% speed decrease is more than what most Killer perks would do in the first place.
A lot of survivor mains would probably just DC if they were the obsession with these changes.
