insidious should shrink terror radius like a reverse distressing. :)

Whats your opinion on this? currently insidious is only really a good perk for camping a spot on the map, and while thats technically a valid strategy (though not one im partial too or think is particularly fun) it is also one of the least picked perks in the game. this appears to be because of its playstyle requirements (either having to camp an objective of yours or the survivor's.)

Sure insidious can also be used for some good jokes, chest protector bubba, exit gate nurse and illusionary doctors are all good examples of this but that doesn't mean the perks good in the slightest, which is why i propose this adjustment. Having it work the exact opposite way as distressing with the same modifier of 26%. have it also increase deviousness bp gain by 100% as well.

I've run the numbers and to me, it doesn't actually seem that strong. the regular heartbeat for any normal terror radius killer will become 23.68% With monitor and abuse outside of a chase this would become, 17.76. Thats two perks to have an ultra small terror radius, of which most survivors will likely keep an eye out visually to try and see you coming, being more on high alert. that being said it would allow you to be able to catch survivors far more unaware then you normally would in specific situations.

Here are some of the numbers for people that care/Want to decide whether or not this would be Op. i've also included its pairing with monitor and abuse. Haven't included some of the numbers from addon's or the doctor (As he has a lot of terror radius adjustment, and mostly benefits from a larger one) but anyone without a non standard terror radius is included.

Regular heartbeat = 32m |

Regular heartbeat with new insidious =23.68m |

With M/a and insidious =17.76m

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The shape, = (t1) 6m, (t2) 16m, (t3) 32m. |

The shape insidious = (t1) 4.44m (t2) 11.84m (t3) |

The shape m/a = (t1) 0m (t2) 8m (t3) 24m |

The shape both = (t1) 0m (t2) 5.92m (t3) 17.76 |

Depending on how the dead rabbit addon would stack with the new insidious would give it different values, however, if they stacked together additively (51%) he would effectively just have half terror radius in tier 2 so 8m. with monitor and abuse this would become about 4m, which is less then his tier 1. Do keep in mind this is 2 perks, and an addon to get this effect however, so i don't consider it overpowered (Along with the fact that his breathing gives him away, and he would be revealed by anti stealth perks)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Huntress (doesn't affect lullaby) = 20m | With insidious = 14.8 | With m/a = 12m | With m/a and insidious = 8.88m

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hag/Spirit = 24m | with insidious = 17.76 | with m/a = 16m | With both m/a and insidious = 11.84m

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So i want to know your guys thoughts on this and whether or not this would be a good change for insidious. personally i think it would be, as it would allow for more pressure on the survivors rather then the current variation which forces the player to exhibit less pressure during the match. It would allow stealth killers to be stealthier, and normal 32m killers the ability to sneak up on survivors somewhat, unpredictably.

I also know that the devs balance out changes to lower or remove terror radius, usually through aspects of the killers power, an activation condition or some downside to the decrease (ie for example tier 1 myers, dark devotion and tinkerer.) however on the flipside, there are a lot of ways to increase the terror radius including distressing, which on a lot of killers also helps to hide them as well (Despite also acting as an early warning.) point being that while theres a lot of benefit to be gained from having a larger terror radius, with perks that are affect by them and the ability to even potentially hide yourself in it, theres not alot of benefit to having a smaller terror radius then the ability to be able to sneak up on people, which could perhaps not even work. Which is why i want to know the devs opinion on this kind of a change and whether or not it could possibly be added to the game (Even if it didn't come as a rework for insidious)

  • A stacking TR reduction would be too strong. Monitor & Abuse already does this well on its own.

Insidious does need a redesign, though. Maybe it could, like, turn off TR for 15 seconds after hooking a survivor, or something.

I have to disagree and say it would'nt be too strong simply strong. there are a lot of strong perk combinations in the game (ie spirit fury/enduring, devour/thrill, unbreakable/dstrike etc.) if anything, this would add to the pool of viable perk combinations.

on the other hand switching off terror radius for 15s also sounds really cool, but could be paired with bbq and chilli, to approach a survivor completely undetected which would be very strong (just like my idea, a strong perk combo but not broken.) Add on devour hope, and its likely any m1 killer could approach you before the cooldown on insidious would be up, thrill of the hunt to protect the totem on top of that and you've got yourself a hook and stealth build.

  • For me, it's less that it would be too strong with Monitor and Abuse and more that it would be too similar to it.

Tbh you could say the same about monitor and abuse and distressing though, both increase terror radius. that being said i do see your point.

  • what if insidious would reduce your TR by 4/6/8m (does not stack with other perks) and made you immune to aura reading (your aura does not get revealed at any time during the trial)?

i believe that would fix the perk and made it actually worth using from time to time without overpowering it.

Could also be a really good balanced change

That would make it better than M&A and would push that perk away. Very few people use M&A for the increased chase radius. Most M&A builds want the perk for the 8m reduction.

  • What if it was a token based perk that lowered TR by X% each token? I don't know what you would tie it to but this way M&A would still be a solid way to down your TR by 8m meaning it would not become obsolete from Insidious.

As it stands now the perk (from my experience) never sees play and serves no purpose other than hard camping, if it were token based then you have a goal to actively reach and it could become a compliment to specific builds rather than just a camping perk.

I'm still not sure of the overall balance this could have though =/

i made it with the intention to have the same TR decrease as M&A tbh.

i wanted people to choose which side effect they prefer: being undetectable for auras or having an increased FoV.

since insidious is ment to make you undetectable, it wouldnt make sense to have a different perk reducing your TR more than insidious, while giving insidious a bigger decrease would have killed M&A. thats why i thought the best thing would be to have both of them decrease the TR by the exact same.

also, having insidious only affecting aura reading would not help the perk, since it would be very situational, so there needed to be a secondary effect.

    how about this one instead:

you are immune to any form of aura reading towards you, but whenever a survivor tries to read your aura, they get revealed themselves for 2/3/4 seconds.

  • @Mister_xD

"you are immune to any form of aura reading towards you, but whenever a survivor tries to read your aura, they get revealed themselves for 2/3/4 seconds."

    Well that would kill OoO...

    ITS PERFECT!

Trying to balance this stuff is tough, I may have questioned your idea but it doesn't invalidate it. Can't say my idea is any better after all haha ^.^''

  • What if we keep the theme of the perk. After being immobile for 2 seconds, your TR and red stain disappear for 15 seconds with a 1 minute cooldown. This would allow you to approach a gen you suspect is being worked on without a TR after a brief pause.

  • i dont like small TR killers tho i get paranoid and scared a little, M&A already f*ck me when on hags and killers like her
