Hook Phases - Changes & Thoughts
BRIEF INTRODUCTION AND MY STANCE:
Let's admit it, being hooked is boring since you're practically doing nothing for a solid two minutes. You're basically helpless, just waiting for your inevitable sacrifice to take you away and there is nothing you can do. Therefore, how can we make hook states more dynamic while also making them scary for the survivor role?
Summoning Phase
You know the attempt escape action? Let's make it into a continuous animation instead of a 3 second animation. Furthermore, let's decrease the self unhook attempt down to 1% but increase how long you can attempt to unhook yourself to 16 seconds before entering the Struggle Phase. Every second attempting to unhook yourself will grant you that 1% chance to unhook yourself. DON'T WORRY, you're approximately getting the same unhook chance so don't get your pitchforks and torches!
Animations: Summoning Phase + Scare Factor
Your surroundings will slowly fade into darkness over time but ONLY the hooked survivor(s) will be able to see the darkness shrouding them. The darkness will stop shrouding you until you can only see the hook that is holding you, just in time for the Struggle Phase. If any survivor is covered by darkness, their aura will be blocked which means you don't wanna be hooked for extended durations!
Struggling Phase
Instead of mashing a button, you'll receive a skill check every 10 seconds when you're struggling. These skill checks are very similar to your Snap Out Of It skill checks but they are immune to perk debuffs.
Animations: Struggling Phase
During the Struggle Phase, you'll hear whispers telling you to NOT give up and that there's still hope. You'll also see eyes around you but this will be a rare phenomenon to see. Remember, only the hooked survivor(s) can hear and see these animations/sounds.
That's it, what do you think about these changes to make the hook a more dynamic place but also a scary one!
Comments
I think just more changes to basic game mechanics such as this would be lovely to see! More animations and sequences to stuff such as being hooked is what I’d love to have come into play. 👍
I like the darkness thing but other than that.... NO. First off the unhook thing, I forget what its called and the math behind it but 4% escape on 3 tries is not equal to 1% escape on 12 tries in fact I'm pretty sure your odds of escaping actually decrease. We need survivors in the game and the spam a button thing is fine right now, no one wants a skill check and in low ranks or against really bad internet using killers, this will kill survivors way to often.
Thank you for catching my mistake, 16 seconds is enough to approximately bring your unhook attempt to par with the current one. I'll edit my OP.
About the hook skill checks, they can be prioritized before anything else making them reliable and to be safe, they should be slightly increased to help newer players.
