On the Subject of DLC's and Which One to Get

Introduction

Hello there! Thanks for stopping by, this discussion is meant more for newer players, as there are many DLC's (9 in total) that come with a killer and a survivor (with the exception of Leatherface)
If you're thinking about buying a DLC than hopefully this will help!
As Ill be giving you my thoughts on what I think is worth, and not worth getting depending on which side you play the most.
Ill be doing them in order that they came out. Without wasting any more time, lets begin.

The Halloween Chapter

Killer Side: Recommended

If you mostly play killer, I would recommend buying this chapter! As Michael is a pretty good killer, while only 1 of his teachables are worth using, Save The Best For Last. It helps a lot on killers that don't have a power to help them in the chase. Dying Light encourages tunneling and that's not fun for anyone and Play With Your Food is just bad.. How ever, Michael makes up for it and is a pretty fun killer to play, while he can still be looped and all, its always fun to try to grab survivors off generators, or stalk them from a distance.

Survivor Side: Recommended

Laurie Strode has currently the best survivor perk in the game, Decisive Strike. So yes, I would definitely recommend purchasing it. How ever Decisive Strike is seen as a "toxic" perk when running it, killers might tunnel you for it, and also you might rely on the perk more than you think. Also for newer players hitting that skill check might not be the easiest of things. Use with caution. Her other 2 perks are situational, Object of Obsession is great when you're playing with friends, and Sole Survivor pairs up pretty well with this, but that's really it. Its also good if you're the only survivor left, then you can heal without having the fear of A Nurse's Calling But that's it really.

Of Flesh and Mud

Killer Side: Recommended

The Hag is a top tier killer who's pretty fun to play once you get the learn her, she's everywhere but no where all at the same time. She also come's with good teachable perks, such as Hex: Ruin, and Hex: Devour Hope, she also has Hex: The Third Seal, which isn't great, but its not entirely useless. Hex: Ruin is almost needed at high ranks, as survivors love to speed through generators. Hex: Devour Hope is a fun perk to use and make's survivors running around like headless chickens once you start building those stacks up. If you don't have Hex: Ruin as a teachable yet, I would strongly recommend this DLC.

Survivor Side: Not Recommended

Ace Visconti has the worst teachables in the game, Up The Ante, which increases luck. Open Handed which increases aura-reading by 8m, and Ace In The Hole. So unless you're the luckiest person on earth or you really like opening chests, this DLC is not for you.

Spark of Madness

Killer Side: Not Recommended

The Doctor is a low tier killer with "ok" teachables. They're not terrible but they're not good either. And The Doctor's power doesn't make up for it. He is how ever the best tracker in the game, if you don't know where a survivor is, you'll know pretty soon. But his chase potential is awful, his shock only helps him on rare occasions. So unless you're going for teachables, I wouldn't recommend buying this DLC.

Survivor Side: Not Recommended

Feng Min has the same problem as The Doctor with her teachables, they're not terrible but they're not good either. Lithe is how ever an Exhaustion perk, but Lithe is the worst Exhaustion perk there is, Alert is "ok" and Technician relies on RNG. Very rarely will you actually be able to make a play because of the quiet repair sounds.

LEATHERFACE

Killer Side: Recommended

The Cannibal is a mid tier killer with an insta down and usually newer players tend to have trouble with him, as they don't know how to counter his chainsaw. He's also the carrier of Barbecue and Chili, the best perk in the game to farm Bloodpoints. It also reveals the location of survivors upon hooking them! Franklin's Demise is great against pesky SWF who are running flashlights, insta heals, you name it. And Knock Out is... ok. Its not terrible.
I would simply get this DLC for Barbecue and Chili. Great for gaining points and leveling up your characters!

Survivor Side: Not Recommended

There is no survivor that comes with this DLC, how ever you get a beat up Dwight cosmetic.

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Killer Side: Not Recommended

The Nightmare stands as THE WORST killer in the game by a LONG shot. In fact, he'd be better off not having his power, as its what hinders him. His perks are end-game related and are very situational. Fire Up is TRASH, Blood Warden can be pretty fun to play with if you can get a play off of it, and Remember Me is only really helpful is you're able to kill the obsession before the gates are open.
Unless you're looking forward to a bad time, this DLC is off the list.

Survivor Side: Not Recommended

Quentin Smith, not a single useful teachable. Wake Up! makes you open gates 15% faster and see the aura's of them, which is situational... Vigil, recover from status effects 20% faster. This perk wasn't bad when you could recover Exhaustion while running, but when they changed that this perk became useless. Pharmacy, is the budget Self Care but its more expensive.
This DLC is probably the worst 1 you could purchase, you get nothing good out of it.

the SAW Chapter

Killer Side: Not Recommended

The Pig is one of the worst killers in the game, she kind of suffers the same way Freddy does (2 Pretty good perks, 1 awful perk, awful power) Make Your Choice is good on killers with good mobility such as Nurse, Hag or Spirit. Surveillance recently got buffed and isn't that bad anymore. Hangman's Trick is an awful perk, should never be used unless you are 100% you are going against a sabo squad.

Survivor Side: Recommended

Detective David Tapp only has decent perks, nothing amazing. While if you're newer at the game and start reaching higher ranks, you'll start encountering killers running Hex: Ruin a lot. Stake Out is a pretty good counter to this. Detective's Hunch can help you find totems as well. Tenacity is a VERY situational perk and is a good pair up with a perk like Unbreakable.
I only recommend this to newer players, if you're able to hit great skill checks every time, then Id think about getting another DLC.

Curtain Call

Killer Side: Recommended

The Clown is a mid tier killer, and is probably 1 of the best killers for dealing with loops. His bottles can help slow down survivors to get to a safe area, or herd them away. His teachables are also pretty good! Bamboozle is amazing on killers who's power doesn't help in the chase such as Wraith, Nightmare or Shape. Coulrophobia isn't amazing but isn't bad either on a killer like The Doctor. Pop Goes The Weasel isn't bad either, can help you slow down the game just a little bit. So great power, with good perks. There's no reason not to pick up this DLC as a killer main!

Survivor Side: Not Recommended

Kate Denson, while her looks can be deceiving, her perks aren't. Its like buying a PC that looks good on the outside but then open that sucker up and you are left with bits of cardboard. Kate's teachables are probably the 2nd worst in the game. Windows of Opportunity can be pretty helpful, but the cool down is way too long. Dance With Me is decent when paired with Lithe and Quick and Quiet. How ever that right there is 3 perk slots for 1 situation. And Boil Over is pointless. Its only "good" on maps like the Lery's Memorial Institute and The Game. So unless you want a good looking chick as your main survivor, you're out of luck.

Shattered Bloodline

Killer Side: Recommended

The Spirit is possibly the best DLC killer currently. Her power gives her mobility, that can help her in and outside of the chase. Her teachables are fantastic.Hex: Haunted Grounds to bait survivors into cleansing your hex totem, making them Exposed. Spirit Fury is amazing when paired up with Enduring, how ever its an amazing perk on its own. And Rancor is great on pretty much every killer. This is the DLC I personally would recommend getting first.

Survivor Side: Recommended

Adam Francis has some pretty fun teachables to play around with. Diversion is just a fun perk to use, throwing a pebble to distract a killer, I've never seen anything like it! Deliverance can be the reason why you escape. It can also help you earn the achievement Not Today. Autodidact can help you heal people at lightning speeds! With max stats you can heal some one at 50% doing 1 skill check. I would get this DLC simply for how fun it is!

Darkness Among Us

Killer Side: Recommended

The Legion is a low to mid tier killer, he has good mobility, and good tracking. What makes him weak is his power doesn't last long enough and he needs to hit a survivor 4 times in his power to down them. He's also slower than most killers. His perks in my opinion make up for it. Discordance is an amazing perk especially for killers that have poor tracking capabilities. And is amazing on its holder as you want to find survivors next to each other. His other 2 perks are for fun builds, such as Mad Grit, its fun to run this with Agitation and Iron Grasp, its also funny how certain killers look when swinging constantly. Iron Maiden is amazing on a killer like The Huntress or The Nurse. As The Huntress you can reload 50% faster. And as The Nurse some times survivors like to hop in lockers to dodge a swing. With Iron Maiden they get punished for it.

Survivor Side: Recommended

Jeff Johanson has some pretty fun, good and unique perks! Breakdown is pretty good, as it breaks a hook and reveals the killer to you. Aftercare is good when playing solo, as you can keep track of what your team is doing from across the entire map! Finally, Distortion. Its an amazing perk, it counters every single aura reading there is for a killer. Even Freddy's dream world! How ever it has 3 stacks, 1 stack lasts for 10 seconds. Every time a killer would see your aura it will consume a stack. Now don't mistake aura reading with killer powers. Distortion will NOT protect you from The Doctor's scream, The Trapper's traps or The Legion's Killer Instinct! How ever, it still makes it a great perk, and a great survivor.

The End!

Thanks all for reading. I hope I could help you if you we're deciding to pick a DLC but wasen't quite sure which one. I know this isn't perfect and people will have different opinions on this. Which I would love to hear. Have a great day <3

  • Thanks for the hard work putting this together I agree with almost all of it. As a synthesis I would recommend for M1 killers: trapper, doc, wraith, Cannibal getting this build, Ruin BBQ, Enduring and Spirit fury.

for starting survivors, SprintBurst Adrenline, self care, and (DS, unbreakable, were gonna live for ever, or Deliverance)
Doing so will give you the most advantage as you learn the game! GL and HF!

For Killer side thats exactly what I run on my Wraith and Trapper (How ever on Wraith I switch between BBQ and Haunted Grounds)

  • BBQ i always run, for Bloodpoints and to be in chases constantly, haunted grounds I dont find that useful for Its kind of a one and done and often doesnt get you anything. unless of course you wait for someone to pop it and uncloak in their face EvilKermit!

  • Thanks. This confirms it, I'm getting Spirit next.
  • It saddens me that everyone says Freddy is the worst DLC. He's not that bad, he's just underappreciated :frown:

Freddy is the worst killer in the game, doesn't mean he can't get kills. Its just he isn't nearly as effective as other killers. Even a killer like Pig or Wraith do a much better job and they're not that far ahead on the tier list.

Of course, he's just underrated imo. I still like your list though. It's really helpful for the new players
  • I heavily disagree with some of these reviews, honestly.

As someone who praises Myers so much, I find it hard to believe that a perk like M&A is just "ok" for you.

Lithe is not the worst exhaustion perk, thats Dead Hard. Alert is probably one of the most underrated perks. And Technician is strong for new players and stealth players.

Leatherface isnt mid tier, he is low tier.

Pharmacy >> Self Care, and does more than it. Does wonders when used with Botany Knowledge. Vigil is still a rather underrated perk (not amazing, but not absolute #########).

Pig not being recommended is somewhat of an opinion, though it is fair if you dont like RNG stuff. With her recent changes and overall stalling, she isnt low tier (she never was). She is a consistent mid tier at least. Her power isnt awful whatsoever. Also, Surveillance isnt "not that bad anymore", its pretty much one of the best defence perks in the game right now, and makes high mobility Killers almost gods.

I do however strongly agree on Shattered Bloodline being the best DLC right now.

  • What? Pig and Doc as low tier and Leatherface as mid tier? Their positions should be switched. Leatherface's chainsaw is easy to dodge and requires him to be right on top of the Survivor to do anything. At any other distance, he's a powerless Killer. At least Doc and Pig have some way to try and stop pallet drops and vaults. Once you get the timings right for Doc, you can use his stun effectively most of the time. As for their perks, Monitor and Abuse is a very good perk (especially on stealth Killers, you can easily sneak up on Survivors), Overcharge can catch Survivors off guard and make tapping the gen after you kicked it dangerous, and Surveillance is now one of the best gen defense perks in the game (far from "isn't that bad anymore").

  • Amanda (The Pig) is a good killer. I play as her a lot in the red ranks and do very good most of the time. She isn't the best killer in the game, but she is far from being bad.

  • Spark of Madness needs to be recommended just for Feng alone.

Darkness Among Us - I'd have not recommended on both sides personally. Discordance can be pretty useful but still, Legion and 2 dud perks.
  • I don't agree with some.
Spark of madness is recomended in both cases. Monitor and abuse is a very good perk for killers like Myers and Pig, also Doc is very fun to play and I consider him mid tier, when played correctly he can deny window vault and is one of the best killers for tracking survivors. And about Feng Ming, Lithe is a good perk and my favourite exhaustion one, Alert is very good for knowing where the killer is and where is he going, also  she have the best cosmetics in the game IMO.
The pig is recommended too, she is mid tier, with the correct perks she is good and without considering blood warden she is the only killer which can force the survivors to stay in the map when the gates are open and the only which can kill survivor passively without considering slugging.

How would Leatherface not be mid tier? He's Hillbilly without the movement. "But you can only use his chainsaw when Survivors are out in the open" isn't a valid argument as same goes for Hillbilly. I put Doctor and Pig as Low tier simply from experience. I've been playing Pig a little more recently and from experience she relies on RNG. Its possible for all survivors to escape from their trap on the first attempt. Rendering your power completely useless. Doctor's shock on the other hand is only helpful in short loops/T-L walls. Every thing else Doctor is just an M1 killer. Same goes for Pig. And yes, it was a mistake on my part for saying M&A was just an "ok" perk. I'm not sure what I was thinking of at the time.

As said with the fella saying Freddy is underrated. Pig relies a lot on RNG to stall the game. She's also not very efficient as other killers.

Ranks are meaningless. Pig isnt a good killer compared to Nurse, Hag, billy, huntress, spirit, or Myers. Shes slightly better if you play like a dbag and tunnel the trap and camp but you both get less points for that and ruin other peoples days. I put pig behind all of those and also behind trapper and windstorm-swift hunt wraith.

  • PWYF is not bad if used correctly. Watch BreadHeroDan om Twitch use it with Leatherface.
