Improving Solo Queue Experience: Addressing Intentional Non-Cooperation Between Survivors

Hi Dead by Daylight Team,

I would like to share feedback regarding an issue that affects Solo Queue Survivor experiences: intentional non-cooperation from teammates.

I understand that not every missed rescue, failed heal, or bad decision should result in punishment. Players can make mistakes, panic, have different priorities, or make incorrect decisions during a trial.

However, there is a clear difference between making a mistake and intentionally refusing to participate in teamwork when there is a safe opportunity to help.

The Problem:

Currently, when a Survivor is hooked and teammates intentionally refuse to rescue or assist despite having no immediate Killer pressure, the hooked player becomes completely helpless.

They are forced to wait through the entire hook stage while receiving no assistance, and leaving the match results in a matchmaking penalty.

This creates a frustrating experience, especially in Solo Queue, where players cannot communicate with their teammates and must rely on cooperation.

Example Situation:

Recently, I experienced a match where two Survivors had safe opportunities to rescue and heal teammates but chose not to do so.

They stayed away from the hook, did not attempt a rescue during the hook stage, and did not provide healing assistance despite having opportunities to help. Their behavior appeared intentional rather than simply being a mistake or a lack of experience.

I reported this situation and provided video evidence, but I was informed that this type of behavior does not currently result in penalties because a lack of specific actions during a trial is not considered punishable.

This made me realize that there may be a gap in the current system for dealing with intentional passive griefing.

Possible Solutions:

1. Anti-Grief Protection System

Similar to the Anti-Camp system, the game could detect situations where teammates repeatedly avoid helping a hooked Survivor despite having safe opportunities.

This should not punish normal gameplay decisions, failed rescues, or inexperienced players. Instead, it should help identify extreme cases where players intentionally refuse to cooperate.

2. A Safer Option for Abandoned Survivors

If the game detects clear non-cooperation from teammates, the hooked Survivor could be given an option to leave the match without receiving a DC penalty.

Players should not be forced to wait through an entire hook stage when their teammates are intentionally refusing to participate.

3. Improved Report Category and Match Data Tracking

Add a more specific report option for:

"Intentional Refusal to Cooperate"

Server data could help determine whether players:

  • Had safe opportunities to rescue or assist,
  • Avoided objectives intentionally,
  • Repeatedly refused teamwork,
  • Remained inactive while teammates were unable to continue playing.

The goal is not to punish players for mistakes or imperfect gameplay.

The goal is to protect Solo Queue players from intentional passive griefing and improve the overall match experience for everyone.

Thank you for taking the time to read this feedback and consider possible improvements.
