Why is Hex: Scared to Death 3 seconds?

I've been enjoying The Slasher and using his perks in various builds, but the one that stands out the weakest by a mile is his hex perk. While the hindered value isn't bad at all, it's the 3 seconds that makes it near useless.

Using this hex:

  • The killer has to exclusively basic-break pallets/walls, which provides decent distance for the survivor off the bat.
  • The duration is so miniscule, it provides no difference in closing the gap for the killer.
  • VIgil exists.

I have legit tested this perk in a build where I can break pallets and recover fast (Springtrap) and the survivor recovered like nothing happened, and Vigil was not in play.

Adding 1 or 2 seconds more alone would make this justifiable as a hex perk. It really feels like it was left in its PTB state to avoid balancing around killers who could more than likely abuse it. It's Haywire all over again.

Comments

  • It gives you the same amount of distance as brutal strength, someone did the math its about 1.56 seconds of distance saved iirc.

  • It's an awful perk. It takes too long to activate and when you do get it it doesn't really give you any better of a benefit than Brutal does.

  • Pidgeon is right. The overall distance saved (depending of course on how you calculate it out) is roughly equivalent to brutal strength. It's just a dramatically weak perk with several conditional triggers.

It's a hex, with 3 second duration, that interferes via DR with other hinders, can be extinguished, is effected by a very popular AOE perk reducing it to 1 second duration. [Brutal Strength] is entirely uncounterable, outperforms Scared to Death in time and expression, cannot be extinguished, cannot be reduced by vigil, and is unlikely to be effected by DR.

Just forget it exists and throw it on the trash pile. It's unlikely to see a meaningful course correction.

Assuming an empty map with a single predropped god pallet and infinite straight lines it would take the follow lengths of time to m1 a survivor:

    • Basekit: 9.64 seconds
    • Brutal: 6.45 seconds
    • Scared to Death: 6.98 seconds
    • Brutal + Scared to death: 3.85 seconds

It's strictly worse than just using brutal strength alone for distance. Which, as stated, is a bit silly for it being a hex perk that can be cleansed with such a massive requirement to get to and the fact that it can get removed.
