Something to do with a Microsoft policy to not allow people to hide their gamertags. It's out of BHVR's hands.
When they rolled it out to all the consoles it was active on Xbox for a week or two. Apparently the way they implemented it violated some Microsoft player visibility guidelines. So they disabled it stating it won't return.
Anonymous should only work in the lobby and during the Trial. When The Killer's Perks are revealed, so too should everyone's name. That would resolve the Xbox policy.
