Why can't we get any true stealth killers?
Every "stealth killer" that we have currently has extremely loud sounds that can be heard multiple rooms over. The following is a list of how the stealth killers we have are actually pretty easy to detect. I'm bringing this up because I think this is the reason so many of these killers are weak.
- Bing Bong - incredibly loud breathing and a literal bell warning survivors before appearing.
Note: Even if you run silent bell survivors still hear an extremely loud WHOOSH sound effect when cloaking or uncloaking.
- Mikael Miers - Incredibly loud breathing and vault sounds. Very tall
- Peppa Pig - I don't play against Pig enough to know her other tells but she has a warning and crouch/standing sound that is very noticeable.
- Freddy - Is he a stealth killer? Either way I'm pretty sure his lullaby is directional.
- Ghostie - This guy was genuinely violated in the sound department. You can hear him crouching/moving from like 15 feet away along with very loud vault sounds. You also don't even need sound to detect him as long as you spin your camera in 360s you can automatically see where he's coming from by the game giving you a "reveal" sound effect. This is just sad.
- Demodoggy - I genuinely am so sad that my boy here is as load as dredge. You can hear him no joke 1-2 rooms away on Hawkins. Being very tall and having a map wide sound effect that tells people when you teleport doesn't help.
- Sadako - Honestly pretty decent stealth you can't see her from further than 24m and is pretty quiet while demanifested. Is what I would say if she didn't have a directional lullaby and a very loud sound when manifesting.
- Dredge - This was so unbelievably disappointing honestly, you can hear Dredge moving around further than you can hear Demo. He and other survivors also glows bright white which was such a waste, this killer would be perfect if they got rid of this and locked lockers. Speaking of lockers if you teleport to lockers its extremely loud and survivors get five business days to pre run if it was locked, you can't even just wait in them to scare people because the locker will start oozing darkness. Worst of all when you are teleporting to a locker survivors can see the lock shaking BEFORE you even get to finish teleporting. Smh
- Skully - she chill
- Chuckles - Extremely loud laughing in stealth along with a UAV on his location at all times if you stare in his general direction. He also gets the fast vault sound when vaulting like GIVE US STEALTHY KILLERS OMG
- Spingtab - Somehow has worse stealth than Demo, suffers from the loudest footsteps and vault sfx. These problems can be fixed by paying money but even if you do he is still extremely tall. Can also have his aura revealed through walls (yes through walls) for 10 seconds through cameras but nobody uses them.
- Pamela Vorhees - Map wide sound effect indicating stealth with extremely easy counter play of crouching away from tiles aka edgemap. The jumpscare is super lame as survivors do not need to pay attention as you can hear him coming out of his evil omni man ability from Timbuktu. Otherwise okay stealth from what I've seen online as I am a console player :c
- The Known - THE TRUE STEALTH KILLER quietest sound effects in the entire game except for when they run the anniversary outfit (it has heels arguably louder than Ada's and is bright blue) and when a survivor is weakened they will hear his voice lines louder along with being able to abuse spinning in circles to find him.
So what did we learn? Every single stealth killer can be heard from the next room over maybe even further for some. Along with the fact that The Unknown a killer that has zero stealth basekit is stealthier than the entire cast of stealth killers.
Comments
Yeah stealth killers have been generally on the weak side for a very long time. Map design hasn't been good to them and swf call outs butcher their play style. As you mentioned as well for some reason they always want to add lots of sound to stealth killers negating the entire point. It's the trend we've had for years of overdoing the amount of counter play available for things not strong enough to warrant it. Stealth killers across the board could use buffs.
I'd also like to see some new stealth killers. We haven't had a real stealth killer in a long time, just killers with "some" stealth aspects.
