Improving survivor readability & identity via team-unique character passives
Problem Statement
Survivor characters are largely indistinguishable during a match.
Their identity is primarily driven by perks rather than character selection, resulting in:
- low gameplay readability for Killers
- Survivors feeling interchangeable
- character choice being motivated mostly by perk unlocks or cosmetics
Compared to Killers, whose powers immediately communicate expectations, Survivors lack a comparable level of iconic gameplay identity.
Design Goal
Increase Survivor identity and match readability
without introducing hard classes, role lock-ins, perk restrictions, or power creep.
Flexibility should remain, but expectations should become clearer.
High-Level Proposal (System Direction)
Each Survivor has one character-locked passive ability
This passive:
- is not transferable
- does not occupy a perk slot
- is team-unique (only one instance active per match)
All existing perks, items, and playstyles remain unrestricted.
This creates soft role tendencies rather than fixed classes.
Expected Benefits
- Improved Killer anticipation without hard counters
- Natural Survivor diversity without forcing team compositions
- Character selection becomes a meaningful gameplay decision
- Reduced meta stacking through team-unique constraints
This mirrors how Killer powers communicate intent while preserving Survivor freedom.
Scope Note
This is intended as a system-level design direction, not a full feature specification.
Exact tuning, balance values, or implementation details are intentionally omitted.
