Rather than requiring to have a survivor in the dream world to injure them, simply remove that aspect and let him injure them normally. Keep the dream world mechanics as is with Freddy being able to see them if they go too far away. Maybe teleport to and come out of a locker close to them. Have survivors hear terror radius song the whole time whilst they are asleep until they wake up.
