Crazy rework idea for Grim Embrace

Hex: Grim Embrace

When you hook a survivor for the first time, gain 1 token. Upon gaining 4 tokens, a Dull Totem is transformed into a Hex Totem and Hex: Grim Embrace activates.

When Hex: Grim Embrace is activated, all generators are blocked for 120 seconds. Once 120 seconds have passed, Hex: Grim Embrace deactivates permanently.

The Hex Totem uses the same function as NOED, revealing its aura to nearby survivors in a gradually expanding radius over time.

With this rework, Grim Embrace can potentially block generators for a lot longer than the current 40 seconds, and survivors are practically forced to search for the Hex Totem to cleanse it instead of simply waiting it out, unless they really want to sit around for 2 minutes making no progress. The 2 minute time limit exists to prevent the killer from camping the Hex Totem and holding the game hostage. They could camp it anyway but all it would do is give survivors time to heal up and reorganize, evaporating the killer's pressure. In short, Grim Embrace becomes a mid-game Corrupt Intervention that offers a meaningful reward for spreading hooks, making it a much stronger game-delay perk than it is right now, while still giving survivors counterplay to it so it doesn't completely shutdown the trial for them.

The Obsession aura-reveal is removed because it's unnecessary.

  • I think the totem should be blocked for the first 30-40 seconds. This prevents situations whereby the totem spawns next to a Survivor while the Killer is on the other side of the map and gets cleansed before the Killer makes their way over to secure the totem.

If there is no dull totem, the gens will just be blocked for the default 30-40 seconds

    Otherwise, good idea.

I feel like it would need something else the survivors can do to counter it since some killers could legit just proxy camp the totem for 2 minutes, especially if it is in a really good spot. If you had a totem build as well etc or even just undying, the amount of game delay and pay off would be absurd. The camping thing I am not even saying is op or anything but it does let the killer hold the game hostage for a guaranteed 2 minutes which I think is not a healthy thing. You need to reduce the time on it or have something else going on.

Also if you did kill a guy and hooked the other 3 and activated this perk, it would literally end the game right there, especially with the right build since the amount of pressure you get would be insane and in most cases teams would probably not be able to come back.

The above said, I do like the idea and I think a buff in this direction is good because it does encourage hooking multiple people and a perk with such a requirement does need to be strong to justify it.

Making it a Hex would also help complement Artist's adept by having something that can potentially synergize with pentimento when trying to do it. It generally suck's doing an Adept where your running less than 3 perks because the odd's of them being usable require perk's outside of the adept set.

Outside of that though, i think a simpler change of making all survivor's auras visible for the 40 second duration and not just the obesession would make the perk more useful and enticing to player's, since the main issue when using Grim Embrace is needing another perk to find someone during those 40 seconds, usually because the obsession was hooked last or is running Distortion. Not finding someone during that time sort of defeats having the blocking effect when you could run any other perk and having to run a aura reveal perk just to possibly make Grim Embrace better just feel's like wasting 2 slots for what is effectivly going to be one chase. Alternativly have the obsession change every few seconds throughout the duration of it's activation while revealing there aura for that time they are the obsession until it deactivates.

I personally would think it would be more interesting than a 2 minute lockdown tied to a Hex. But maybe more perks like this are needed so player's will actually cleanse dull totem's to avoid them from activly taking effect.

Your point about finding survivors is valid. I always thought it should be flipped, revealing the auras of everyone except the Obsession.

Maybe 120 seconds is a little too much, maybe just 90 seconds is better. Still a significant chunk of time.

    Thank you for the feedback.
