Fighting the symptoms instead of beating the disease: When Devs take the Easy Route
I noticed that in the last time a lot but also in the past this is a thing that get's used by the devs again and again. Instead of trying to understand why certain broken things are happening in there game they take the Easy Route and press a simple nerf button.
"Tunneling and Camping"
We all know at this point that tunneling and Camping is a huge problem in this game. I don't say that I have a perfect solution but the Route the devs take isn't really helping. Instead of thinking about why killers have the need to Tunnel they see the problem and try to fight the symptoms by giving survivors base kit borrowed time and Anti Camp and Tunnel Perks.
"Meta Perks"
On both sides certain perks are used much more then other ones. The Devs could look at the other perks and think about how they could improve them so people would use them more but no. Instead they press the big fat "Nerf Button" on the stronger perks without thinking about why they get picked so often.
"New Killers"
The Drone Lady here is a perfect example. In the ptb it was quickly discovered that her strongest Strategie is to camp the last 3 gens with her drones. The Devs could have take the time to listen to the Feedback and really change her a lot but instead we already got the news about the changes 1 week later and like you probably know the changes are really small and don't change much about her Camping.
"Gen Speeds"
At this Point Killers have to bring atleast one slow down perk if they don't want the last gen to be finished in 5 Minutes. And because of that on the killer sides Meta Perks are a lot of Slowdown perks. And again....the Devs could look deeper into it and see that the Gen speeds are a complete mess with all the items and perks the survivors have to increase the gen speeds. But again...they simple nerf the perks because it get's used often. In the next Update 3 Slowdown perks get nerfed on the killer side. I don't say the decision is completely wrong because it's boring to see them every round but it's not a solution for the problem. Killers will just take the next best Slowdown perks.
Comments
The problem is : developpers don't play their own game.
They just analyse data on a excel board.
They don't understand the essence of their game.
An they generally ignore all good feedback.
At this point I think the issue is almost more that BHVR smh doesn't manage to communicate what the actual goal or purpose of rebalancing/changing stuff is.
As for tunneling/camping:
it's not about "having a need" - if done correctly it simply is the most efficient way to get a 4k (keyphrase: if done correctly). This is why anything meant to "give killers more time so they don't feel the need" will never alleviate the problem. Quite the contrary. Making somethign that is already very efficient even more efficient will lead to it becoming more popular.
On meta perks:
Leaving strong perks as is and buffing everything to their levels leads to power creep. There has to be a balance between buffing and nerfing. - Though, from what I have gathered over time the devs seem to hold the opinion that perks should not be match deciding. They should have some impact on the game but they should not have a predictable, favourable, consistent effect on the match outcome. Differently put: Perks are supposed to be gimmicks that may or may not help you in a match. "Significant guaranteed value" is not supposed to be a thing. (Which is how some of Peanits replies over time have read to me at least. They never stated something along those lines officially or clearly afaik.)
New Killers:
Pretty much agreed on that one - though gotta keep in mind that they knew about changes to gen regression on her release so they knew her 3genning potential would be nerfed in the forseeable future anyway.
Gen Speeds:
Also sorta agree; gens need a much more uniform time that can't be greatly affected by perks in either direction. We'll get less spaghetti-ing on the regression side with the next patch. - But the genrushing needs some adjustments too. I gotta say though; there is more to choosing perks to extend the match than gen-regression. At this point NWO is a better match-delay perk than most regression perks (and if someone can't somewhat reliably get those four hooks before the last gen pops, then I'm sorry to say, it seems that someone somehow got themselves to a place where they're punching way above their weight).
I hate when people say this because the obviously have to play their own game. They also don't have to be tip top mmr. They understand the game functionally better than all of us.
They ignore a lot of feedback because it's not good. I'm going to be honest most ideas I see floating around are bad and the devs are smart not to listen. They have implemented some community feedback so they obviously listen, but they also have to consider everything else as a factor those suggestions might not take into account for
I'm not saying everything they do is flawless or without criticism but the devs don't play there game is just something that holds no flooring just like when people parrot "spaghetti code"
