How many killer buffs before first hook tunneling is finally dees "sweaty"

first hook tunneling first got brought up awhile ago, the community made a big fuss about it, and content creators came to the consensus that if you wanted to beat a team at high MMR, tunneling was necessary. This was pre- DS nerf that included conspicuous actions, also before 6.0.0. now that the balance is much different, I have not noticed a corresponding change in community tolerance of hard tunneling. Do we feel like killer is still not yet at the level necessary to complete at high levels without tunneling, or is there just a widely held belief that we don't have any obligation to be considerate of other people's fun? I'm curious to know what other people's thoughts on this are.

  • A bunch of killer mains on these forums can 12 hook comp teams with Clown no add ons without gen regression. They also never get slapped with Dead Hard, they wait it out every time. Any killer that ever tunnels needs to git gud!!

  • Sweaty has such a wide range of use in this community. People call trying to win sweaty and bringing in good stuff sweaty. So with that in mind I would call tunneling from min one sweaty.

Just because tunneling is unfun for survivors doesn't mean killers(especially low tier killer mains) shouldn't tunnel. I doubt you play league but you can experience gameplay far more out of your control than tunneling in certain scenarios, but I don't fault the players doing that to me when it happens.

I don't tunnel because I want to see each survivors full capability in chase from hopefully full health. But the strat is good and it's up to bhvr to somehow remove it while filling in at least some of the power gap it will leave behind. It will probably be addressed in someway eventually, it's hated by a large portion of the community.

There's also a big difference between a clown tunneling someone out early and an alch-ring blight hard tunneling someone out. It's honestly kinda weird how people always group all killers together when talking about things like this when the power gap is just so massive between A tier and D tier killers.

  • If the killer can easily tunnel the first survivor out of the game, why wouldn't they? A 3v1 is a much better game state than a 4v1 where no one is on death hook.

If tunneling were to be addressed, then you have to make spreading hooks that don't lead to kills actually mean something.

You're taking it to the extreme, and I'm not going to point out the obvious.

Dead Hard really isn't that hard to deal with, if I'd have to guess I see maybe 1 out of 5 DH's land as killer.

Also losing really isn't that big of a deal, games last roughly 10-15 minutes. There is nothing stopping you from simply moving onto the next. No one is meant to win every game no matter how good you are, and if you do then that shows true imbalance.

  • I don't know if it would be as big of a deal if mmr could count more than kills/escapes and matchmaking was consistent. If it always matched you with people at the same level then high level survivors would probably just expect camping and tunneling from high level or certain killers.

With how inconsistent it is though you may go into full on tunnel mode against a group that never does anything but goof around. When that group should probably be being matched against killers who play equivalently. This goes the same in reverse. You may have a full group of gen perk/toolbox survivors playing against a pig who is just trying to scare people with Amanda's Letter and get some hooks in. (This ones from personal experience lol.)

That being said some people just want to be toxic in some way and to them it doesn't matter if you tunnel or not. They'll find something to hate about it.

Honestly, there is no way to be considerate of every person you encounter's fun. You could not early game tunnel and people would still feel some type of way about it.

Now as for the strat itself, the main reason to do it is to cut survivor efficiency by 25%, it's that simply. DS honestly never really factored into that. The game is just easier to manage in a 3v1 rather than a 4v1 which is what you need to do at a high level play if you're really into consistently winning. The higher the skill level of the players involved the more efficient and optimal you need to play to keep up. Keep in mind that not every survivor perk nerf or rework translates to a killer buff. The change to DS was universally good for just being more of a focused tool and less of a "I'm immune to consequences" type nuisance. It didn't address the more systemic issues that affect killer gameplay in regards to dealing with how fast the game can be pushed by 4 survivors.

Like spawning rules for survivors have never really been addressed in a way that makes so they don't spawn near generators. That's a major problem that needs to be addressed that would aid in the pacing of the early.
