A proposed, low resource change, to Hex Totems
THE QUICK AND DIRTY OF IT
In short, giving the killer the ability to "defile" as opposed to "cleanse" their totems. The killer destroys their own totem when they encounter it, for a chance (at random) for it to spawn in another location. It could use the same, kick, slap, slash, etc animations that killers use on generators and palettes. No new animations, or UI needed. Then for a brief period the totem goes "offline" until it respawns in a new location. Giving survivors a brief break, but the hunt will have to begin again.
Why this could add complexity to killer gameplay and still not be super unfair to survivors.
1) The killer doesn’t know exactly where it (the totem) respawns, heck it could respawn next to a survivor! Its supposed to be a gamble. Still keeping with randomness and giving survivors a chance to still home in on totems.
2) Doesn’t affect the initial spawn rate, survivors could still bust totems in record time on a lucky roll.
3) Keeps killers from having to be rooted to their totems location if they are playing defensively. And gives them another defense option should the survivors begin to ignore totems and power through instead.
4) There is no extra information given to the killer this way, if they are playing multiple totems, so they can't favor one over the other.
5) Could add (with some tweaking) some more interaction with the entity (for BP) outside of Hooking survivors. (Deviousness maybe?)
In closing this was an idea, something that (in theory) shouldn’t be too hard to implement, "only" requires coding and not extra animation resources and would add a bit more "chess" maneuvers to the game. Your guys thoughts?

Would be better if it could restore a broken dull totem if you defile a active hex totem.
But otherwise I like this proposed change, would be lovely to implement. Especially if your totem is in a crap location.
Honestly i dont think something like this would work. I see you thought this through so im not trying to talk down on it i just dont think that this idea should be in DBD. One major thing is that it would kill off Hex: Thrill Of The Hunt
I'd rather go the opposite route - if a hex totem is cleansed, the killer can turn a remaining dull totem into that hex totem, at the expense of time (20 seconds or so). If you have multiple hex totems cleansed, the restore order is based on the hex perk order.
Sounds good ... but I was trying to come up with the "laziest" solution to complicate totem play, yours, while cool, would involve extra UI selection, coding and interaction.
I WOULD LOVE to be able to repair broken totems! However I am not sure how complex that would be for the devs to implement ... however it would eat up some killer time, which is in favor for the survivor, and give the killer the ability to reactivate a wrecked perk.
Thrill of the Hunt would need to be tweaked for sure ... but it wouldn't ruin its effectiveness since it is reliant on the totems still on the map. Having them break and respawn would make the counter go crazy to be sure, but still could work in the favor of the killer. As for it not being in DBD, to each their own .. In a game that is a "simple" as this, I was just thinking of ways to spice up the gameplay a bit. Hexes add a new dynamic to basic play ... I just think it could be a bit more "interesting" .. still .. thanks for your input!
This would also help when you find a Survivor on your totem and lose them, you know they know where it is and now you know that it won't last much longer. But if you could kick it and have it respawn in another location then bam, problem fixed. And if that's the last totem on the map cuz the others were destroyed then it doesn't go anywhere. I also like the idea of rebuilding broken dull totems, it would give the Killer some strategic play and could reactivate a broken totem perk. The problems this would solve would enormous and the Survivors would get notified whenever the totems come back because only 2 of them have no indicator that they're even in the match, 3 if you count NOED but I don't. The Survivors could waste their time looking for the totem again or just power through it.
I like this idea.
And they could just change Thrill of the Hunt to: You lose 1 token everytime a survivor cleanses a totem. This way you wouldn't lose one when you "destroy" one to have it respawn somewhere else.
