Unpopular opinion but I never want to see this come to the game.

The current gamemode already has serious balance issues. some of which have been around for six years now. Adding another gamemode is just going to split up the developer team and reduce bandwidth for new content and balance changes for the primary gamemode.

Introducing 2 V 8 would require ALL perks, add-ons, offerings, maps, powers, items etc. to be rebalanced and given an alternate version to work with the 2 V 8 mode which is just such a massive task. I think it would be unjustifiable to dedicate so much time and resources to an alternate gamemode when the current game regularly suffers from major issues (e.g. the recent two weeks of server outages for EU players, bloodweb errors on PS5 etc.) and a difficult-to-balance META.

Not to mention that if we ever did get an official 2 V 8 gamemode, it's almost guaranteed to be a buggy mess. We've seen time and time again that the introduction of mechanics that the game was never originally built to handle causes issues left right and centre.

I have no beef with people who want the gamemode, but I personally just think it's a terrible idea.

The Game is never a esport. This Game is a Buggy mess and will never be a Balance Game. So the only Other Thing we have is the fun Option. So why Not for the kill your Friends Mode. In this Moment you dont become blood Points they musst Not Balance anything.

I already wrote about this, just a fun mode without balance that does not give bp and exp

dbd has never been properly balanced, so I don't understand why you get the idea that 1 more mode (but fun) will make the game worse

  • This would be fun for a limited time mode for at most a week. Longer than that and a meta emerges.

It's fun until every game is blight/blight or nurse/nurse, and killers complain about 24 dead hards per match.

  • This needs to be a permanent option in custom games

Because they still need to dedicate time and resources to implementing it. Which would be time and resources diverted away from the main game.

It already takes long enough for significant changes to be implemented into the game without adding additional and unnecessary bandwith.

you understand that several people without full access to the game code were able to do it (it was a year ago, just 2vs8 became popular now because of the new video)

I don't think bhvr having full access can't just do 2x8

    You're missing the point entirely.

While impressive, the 2 V 8 mod has a bunch of issues, for the exact reason that it was created by random people without full access to the game code. If BHVR were to make an official version to add to the game, there's so many things that would have to be ironed out. For starters:

    • Not all of the survivors in the 2 V 8 match have proper icons in the HUD: BHVR would therefore have to adjust the HUD to accommodate the gamemode.
    • A number of perk's effects bug out when used in the 2 V 8 mode: The devs would need to go through and bug fix a whole bunch of perks/items/add-ons/offerings/powers/maps etc. to work with the mode.
    • The game's lobby system is not built to handle potentially 12 players (2 killers, 8 survivors, and 2 spectators): BHVR would have to make a new lobby for the mode that could properly display all the players.
    • Having multiple AI killers (e.g. Nemesis or Knight) in a match would TANK performance: BHVR would have to make optimisations to these to allow it to work on the minimum specs supported by DBD.
    • etc. etc.

These are all things that would take TIME and RESOURCES for BHVR to do. So they'd either have to hire more staff (which means less expenditure available for the primary game mode), or they'd have to divert pre-existing resources to the 2 V 8 mode (which increases development time).

And then once they've implemented it, it becomes something that they have to maintain with every update. Whenever new content gets added, it'll have to be playtested, bug-fixed, and whatnot in the 2 V 8 mode too.

And people on here can say "Oh well, it doesn't matter if it's unbalanced. I don't care if it's buggy. It's fine if it doesn't work properly" etc. but that isn't a tenable position for a video game company to take. Releasing broken, unpolished content hurts their reputation professionally. Us players might not care too much, but license holders, advertisers etc. certainly do.

    The options are:

    • BHVR adds an official 2 V 8 mode in but does not go out of their way to balance, bug-fix, optimise etc. which results in a buggy and broken mess of a gamemode. This reflects badly on the game and company.
    • BHVR adds an official 2 V 8 mode and diverts resources to support and maintain it, resulting in increased development times and less staff for both gamemodes.

None of these options are viable for business.

2 V 8 is best left as a mod. If you want it, I'm sure you can find a way to play it.

The hit to game performance with two killers and all their assets would be massive.

Just imagine the last gen consoles and lower-end PC's trying to run this, not to mention our Switch cousins.
