The "War" between Gen Slowdown and Exhaustion perks is the worst thing in this game

Me : Plays a killer match with info perks as Dredge, a fairly basic and traditional killer.

Ends the match with 3 hooks because all 4 survivors have an exhaustion perk and also toolboxes.

Great...

Me, After that match : Runs 4 gen slowdown perks

Gets a 4k at 5 gens because the survivors happen to not run any exhaustion perks or gen repair increases now.

Then they call me a meta sweaty killer.

The problem is simple, gen regression and stall perks and exhaustion perks and on survivor side are just way too powerful of a perk archetype.

If you don't have those perks and your opponent has the equivalent you will often not even have the window of opportunity to win the match, making it boring for me anyways.

The issue gets more complex when you consider anti-loop killers and also killers with built in slowdown but right now perks are the most frustrating aspect of this game.

  • I agree. It’s ridiculous how wide this gap is on both sides. The standard for what a strong but balanced perk is is too high right now.

  • I really don't understand how these things are equivalent. Not all regression and exhaustion perks are make equally so the comparison is doubly foolish.

Gen slowdown and exhaustion perks are equivalent because they both serve a similar purpose for the different roles. Gen slowdown gives killer more time to complete their objective, and exhaustion perks extend chases, giving your teammates more time to do gens. And yes all of the perks are different but they all serve have a similar effect the differences are just the ways they activate.

average match with killers with no slowdown perks against survivors with exhaustion + prove thyself (4 gens done, 3 hooks)

  • It all boils down to a non existent matchmaking in this game since its release.

It would be way less of a problem if the people that want to win and equip the mentioned meta perks would only go against their own kind and chill people with off meta stuff would be matched with each other.

Of course there are always smurfer trying to circumvent the matchmaking to get matched with chill people while maintaining a hard "must win" mentality.

And the problem is of course also more complex than just a basic ass working matchmaking. It wouldn't magically solve all these problems but it would make them less harsh.

BUT we all know that DBD is way too diverse, in terms of perk-map-killer-"survivor lobby makeup" rng plus a playerbase that's too small for the mass of rng combinations, to facilitate a working matchmaking. So after seeing their attempt at a different form of matchmaking we can conclude that it's never going to happen, or at least not in the next roughly 5 years (if the game survives that long).

    I mean i think it's both.

The balance gap between "objective" perks and non objective perks is way too big but also the skill range that the matchmaker allows is too wide and the soft cap is too low to have very even matches.

In a game like overwatch there is non meta characters that you can see in top 500 leaderboards but in dbd it's basically impossible to compete at the highest level with the average killer with no slowdowns

  • If your intention is winning there’s no reason you wouldn’t bring gen regression or exhaustion perks every single game, to me thats a sign of a design/balance issue. All perks in the game should be a weighing of pros and cons match by match and depending what killer, that isn’t the case with gen regression or exhaustion perks. Personally I think we’re required in the gen regression because of poor map design which forces killers to run them to make the match last long enough that they have a chance of winning and exhaustion perks are on every survivor because they’re just overall way overtuned and have been since their inception, compared to other perks the value exhaustion perks bring is leagues higher, ie auto lock on perk picking. No other perks are going to compare to one perk giving you multiple 3rd health states.
