Wait what was pain resonances adjustment again?

The 40 perk rework was supposed to shake up all currently established meta perks with changes. And would at least make old meta picks not so popular. But i struggle to remember what even happened to pain res to make it fall out? Does anyone know? And do you think it should be changed again? Personally i still see it in most of my matches so it's still obviously a popular pick.

  • They got rid of the scream indicator on the killer side that told you exactly where the scream came from.

They got rid of the scream in general at first, but they put the scream back in response to the weird interaction with Merciless Storm. Presently, you'll scream if you're on the generator (knocking you off the generator and triggering DMS if present) but the killer will just hear an inaudible scream from somewhere and won't know the exact direction unless they were already close to the generator. Although you can tell which survivor screamed just by the voice.

You're still able to see the aura of the person being hooked right before the perk triggers so you can let go even in solo queue.

  • og pain rez had loud noise notification+scream, then lost both of those iirc. we got the scream back but not the loud noise notification, which is what gives it the Dead Mans synergy I guess.

Yeah the scream gives it the synergy with DMS, because the scream forces you off of the gen and thus it gets blocked by DMS (making the removal of the loud noise notification actually meaningless because you know which gen blocked thanks to DMS).

Which is funny because that was the og combo they wanted to hit right? Then just brought it back.

Not really, it has way too much counterplay now, so why run it when you can run a better combo that does't rely on people being distracted/bad at the game?

    Yeah.

They wanted to hit DMS + PR, so they nerfed PR by removing the interrupt and the noise notification and buffed it by leaving it be (15% of 90 is bigger than 15% of 80). Then there came a funny little interaction with Merciless Storm, where it would keep the skill checks going even if the gen dropped back below 90% progress until one was missed or the gen completed. It was a harmless, fun little interaction that gave MS some extra useage when it was previously rather mediocre.

So naturally they nerfed the interaction by giving PR it's interrupt back, thus making MS once again utter useless, and instead returned the DMS/PR combo (which made every nerf previously to PR absolutely useless when used together) so they hit DMS instead, cutting it from 45s to 35s. This, of course, pushed DMS into "useless-on-everyone-except-when-used-with-PR" territory and... here we are today. PR/DMS is still incredibly strong, though arguably outclassed by OverBrine (or EruptionOverBrine if you just really hate solo queue), and the meta shakeup surrounding PR failed because you can just combine PR/DMS and OverBrine

though it has no counterplay if your teammates aren't knowledgeable enough and won't let go of the gen with you
