Hexing a broken totem?

I must have missed something, but searching for it has come up with nothing so I figure I'd ask.

I was on new haddonfield against an Artist. I cleansed a dull totem in the basement of one of the houses and hid in a locker. The killer came by, channeled for a second at the destroyed totem, and it brought it back up and hexed.

I came out of the locker and cleansed the hex, and the totem fully went away, no remnant model or anything.

What did I see, is it a perk? Something new?
